Ipsilateral proximal and shaft femoral fractures treated with bridge-link type combined fixation system
Background Although many treatments for ipsilateral proximal and shaft femoral fractures have been developed, controversy exists regarding their optimal management. The purpose of this retrospective study was to discuss the effectiveness of the bridge-link type combined fixation system (BCFS) and evaluate functional outcomes in treating patients with these complex fractures. Patients and methods We retrospectively reviewed 14 cases of ipsilateral proximal and shaft femoral fractures treated from January 2012 to December 2016. All cases were treated by BCFS combined with minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO). Clinical and radiographic data were collected during regular post-operative follow-up visits. Functional outcomes were determined according to the Friedman and Wyman scoring system. Results The proximal femoral fractures were emergency diagnoses in 11 cases and delayed diagnoses in 3 cases. The delay time was 5–6 days, with an average of 5.3 days. The mean operation time was 179.6 min (range 135–231 min) with a blood loss volume that ranged from 430 to 535 ml (average 483.6 ml). Follow-up was conducted in 13 cases between 9 and 30 months post-operation, with an average follow-up time of 17.3 months. The proximal femoral fractures were united in 12 cases at the final follow-up. One case had nonunion 13 months after the operation, underwent valgus intertrochanteric osteotomy, and healed 6 months later. The femoral shaft fractures obtained rigid union at the latest follow-up in 12 cases. One case endured nonunion 12 months after the operation. After the revision surgery and iliac bone grafting, the fracture healed 6 months later. Eight of the cases had good functional results, 4 had fair results, and results were poor in 1 case at the final follow-up. Conclusions The treatment of ipsilateral proximal femoral and shaft fractures with BCFS in combination with MIPPO demonstrated a high likelihood of union for both fractures and good functional results.
Case Report: Ultrasound guided puncture for type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with psoas abscess—a report of two cases
Psoas abscess (PA) is a rare infectious disease, with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) serving as a significant risk factor. The combination of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and ultrasound offers innovative approaches for the rapid and precise treatment of PA. Case 1: A 77-year-old woman presented with lumbar pain was initially misdiagnosed with lumbar disc herniation based on CT scan. Subsequent CT scan and ultrasound-guided puncture confirmed a left lumbar PA. mNGS detected the presence of , which was negative on conventional culture. The patient was successfully treated with vancomycin for 5 weeks, with no recurrence at 3-year follow-up. Case 2: A 56-year-old woman with a 10-year history of T2DM presented with poor appetite and fatigue. CT imaging identified a left lumbar PA along with perirenal infection. Pus from ultrasound-guided puncture for conventional culture and mNGS detected the presence of . Treatment with oxacillin and vancomycin led to clinical resolution. The follow-up CT scan in 2024 indicated complete resorption of the lesion. mNGS combined with ultrasound-guided puncture overcomes conventional culture limitations. This approach suggests clinical feasibility.
An improvement of GNY logic for the reflection attacks
In this paper, the limitation of the GNY logic about its inability to detect the reflection attacks against some authentication protocols is given. An improvement is proposed which takes into account the possible multiple instances (principals) of the same identity in the model.
WCET Optimizations and Architectural Support for Hard Real-Time Systems
As time predictability is critical to hard real-time systems, it is not only necessary to accurately estimate the worst-case execution time (WCET) of the real-time tasks but also desirable to improve either the WCET of the tasks or time predictability of the system, because the real-time tasks with lower WCETs are easy to schedule and more likely to meat their deadlines. As a real-time system is an integration of software and hardware, the optimization can be achieved through two ways: software optimization and time-predictable architectural support. In terms of software optimization, we first propose a loop-based instruction prefetching approach to further improve the WCET comparing with simple prefetching techniques such as Next-N-Line prefetching which can enhance both the average-case performance and the worst-case performance. Our prefetching approach can exploit the program control flow information to intelligently prefetch instructions that are most likely needed. Second, as inter-thread interferences in shared caches can signicantly affect the WCET of real-time tasks running on multicore processors, we study three multicore-aware code positioning methods to reduce the inter-core L2 cache interferences between co-running real-time threads. One strategy focuses on decreasing the longest WCET among the co-running threads, and two other methods aim at achieving fairness in terms of the amount or percentage of WCET reduction among co-running threads. In the aspect of time-predictable architectural support, we introduce the concept of architectural time predictability (ATP) to separate timing uncertainty concerns caused by hardware from software, which greatly facilitates the advancement of time-predictable processor design. We also propose a metric called Architectural Time-predictability Factor (ATF) to measure architectural time predictability quantitatively. Furthermore, while cache memories can generally improve average-case performance, they are harmful to time predictability and thus are not desirable for hard real-time and safety-critical systems. In contrast, Scratch-Pad Memories (SPMs) are time predictable, but they may lead to inferior performance. Guided by ATF, we propose and evaluate a variety of hybrid on-chip memory architectures to combine both caches and SPMs intelligently to achieve good time predictability and high performance. Detailed implementation and experimental results discussion are presented in this dissertation.

Statistical Characteristics and Mechanistic Analysis of Suddenly Reversed Tropical Cyclones over the Western North Pacific Ocean
Based on best track data of tropical cyclones(TCs) from the Japan Meteorological Agency, the characteristics of suddenly reversed TCs(SRTCs), which have turning angles usually approaching 180°, are statistically analyzed from 1949 to 2011 over the western North Pacific Ocean. The typical large-scale circulation patterns of SRTCs are investigated using reanalysis data and dynamical composite analysis. Results show that turnings mainly occur in low latitudes between 10°N and 20°N,and mainly west of 135°E. The majority of SRTCs reach their peak intensity at, or slightly before, the turning time and subsequently decrease at some variable rate. Specifically, SRTCs are divided into four types, each containing two groups(i.e.eight groups in total) in terms of the moving-direction changes. The moving speed of all SRTC types except the south–north type decreases to its lowest during the 24 h, corresponding to a significant reduction in the primary steering components.According to the analysis of the 13 typical flow patterns found in this study, we suggest that sudden track changes are caused by the reversal steering flow. The original balance of the background flow patterns are broken up by new systems, e.g. binary TCs or dispersion-induced anticyclones. Additionally, sudden track changes are often due to double ridge variations of the subtropical high or weakened/strengthened high pressure in the east and west, respectively.

A Pervasive Approach to EEG-Based Depression Detection
Nowadays, depression is the world’s major health concern and economic burden worldwide. However, due to the limitations of current methods for depression diagnosis, a pervasive and objective approach is essential. In the present study, a psychophysiological database, containing 213 (92 depressed patients and 121 normal controls) subjects, was constructed. The electroencephalogram (EEG) signals of all participants under resting state and sound stimulation were collected using a pervasive prefrontal-lobe three-electrode EEG system at Fp1, Fp2, and Fpz electrode sites. After denoising using the Finite Impulse Response filter combining the Kalman derivation formula, Discrete Wavelet Transformation, and an Adaptive Predictor Filter, a total of 270 linear and nonlinear features were extracted. Then, the minimal-redundancy-maximal-relevance feature selection technique reduced the dimensionality of the feature space. Four classification methods (Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbor, Classification Trees, and Artificial Neural Network) distinguished the depressed participants from normal controls. The classifiers’ performances were evaluated using 10-fold cross-validation. The results showed that K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) had the highest accuracy of 79.27%. The result also suggested that the absolute power of the theta wave might be a valid characteristic for discriminating depression. This study proves the feasibility of a pervasive three-electrode EEG acquisition system for depression diagnosis.
Non-Financial Factors and Financial Returns: The Impact of Linking ESG Metrics to Executive Compensation on Corporate Financial Performance
Although the practice of linking Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) metrics to executive compensation (ESG compensation) has become increasingly common worldwide, consistent evidence of its economic consequences for corporate value remains limited. Drawing on agency theory and a sustainable governance perspective, this study examines how responsibility-oriented incentive mechanisms translate into corporate financial performance. Using textual data from a large sample of Chinese listed companies and employing the BERT deep learning model for empirical analysis, the results show that ESG compensation significantly improves subsequent financial performance. Further analysis reveals that this effect is primarily driven by incentives related to the environmental and social dimensions of compensation structures. In addition, ESG compensation enhances firms’ ESG rating performance and reduces rating divergence, thereby lowering stakeholders’ transaction costs. The moderating analysis indicates that managerial ability and financial slack both strengthen the positive effect of ESG compensation on financial performance. Overall, this study uncovers the internal mechanism through which ESG compensation promotes corporate value creation and clarifies its practical implications for sustainable corporate governance.
Experimental investigation of friction reducer effects on the microstructure and permeability of Longmaxi formation gas shale
This study proposes a novel method to investigate the effects of friction reducers on the microstructure and permeability of gas shale, using the Longmaxi formation as a case study. By combining high-pressure mercury injection (HPMI) data, the pore size distributions (PSDs) and permeability of gas shale sample were derived from low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) T 2 spectra under various immersion time conditions. The results demonstrate that this method effectively illustrates the impact of friction reducer on gas shale microstructure across different immersion durations. The proportions of both micro- and macro-pores increase initially, then decrease, and eventually stabilize, peaking at 1 day. Meso-pores follow a different trend, with the maximum occurring at 5 days. Permeability trends correspond with micro- and macro- pore changes, and the permeability ratio remains above 1.0, confirming enhanced permeability. These findings provide insight into optimizing friction reducer formulations and improving shale gas extraction efficiency.
