Purpose
This randomized controlled study was conducted to analyze the effect of hand massage on the fatigue level of the women receiving brachytherapy.
Methods
It was determined that 12 patients were included in each group (control and hand massage group), so 24 women with gynecologic cancer were included in the study. The application was performed on each hand for 5 min, a total of 10 min in hand massage group. Hand massage was applied before each brachytherapy (at the first, second, and third sessions, a total of three times) every other day for 1 week in the hand massage group. No intervention was performed to the control group during the study. The data were collected using the Patient Information Form and Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI).
Results
At the end of the brachytherapy, the fatigue severity score and impact of fatigue on activities of daily living scores of the group that applied hand massage were determined to be lower than the control group (
p
< 0.05).
Conclusion
It was determined that hand massage effectively controlled fatigue and the impact of fatigue on activities of daily living. Hand massage is a safe and economical method that can be performed by certified nurses.

2021
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine sleep quality and fatigue levels of patients who underwent angiography in coronary intensive care unit. Methods: This study was performed among individuals who underwent angiography in the coronary intensive unit of a City Hospital in the center of a city in Turkey between December 15, 2018 and April 15, 2019 (n:205). Data were obtained using the Patient Identification Form, Richards-Campbell Sleep Scale, Brief Fatigue Inventory. Results: The mean score of Richard’s Campbell Sleep Scale was 46.01 ± 18.90 in patients undergoing angiography at the coronary intensive care unit. The mean score of the Brief Fatigue Scale was found to be 4.49 ± 1.99. A negative correlation was found between the mean Richard’s Campbell Sleep Scale and Brief Fatigue Inventory and its subdimension scores. The fatigue levels were found to be increased as the sleep quality of the patients decreased. Conclusions: It was determined that patients undergoing coronary angiography had poor sleep quality and high levels of fatigue, and this was caused by several factors. In line with these results, it is recommended to make nursing care plans and consultancy for sleep hygiene and activity planning at regular intervals for individuals at risk.

The research is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample of the study included 116 women over 35 years old who were diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer and underwent intracavitary brachytherapy at the Radiation Oncology Department of a university hospital. Personal information form, SF-36 the Quality of Life Scale, and BEM Sex Role Inventory were used in the study. The researcher collected the data through face-to-face interview. The data were collected in the nurses' room after 3 different brachytherapy treatments that patients received weekly.
It was found that the average score of the physical functioning subscale was 32.80 ± 24.33, the average score of role physical was 15.43 ± 28.78, the average score of role emotional was 17.81 ± 28.96, the average score of vitality was 39.13 ± 16.12, the average score of social functioning was 43.53 ± 20.55, the score average of pain was 50.0 ± 20.09, the average score of general health was 42.67 ± 14.61, and the general health of mental health was 55.86 ± 16.12. In the BEM sex roles scale, the average score of BEM femininity was 105.56 ± 13.95, and the average score of BEM masculinity was 80.61 ± 12.77. In our study, a very low, negative, and significant relationship was determined between the role of femininity and emotional role limitation, physical functionality, social functionality, and general health perception in the women undergoing brachytherapy (p < 0.05).
Based on the findings of the present study, we can state that an increase in the \"role of femininity\" in women undergoing brachytherapy was effective in the decrease in the quality of lives of women. It can be claimed that the results will be a guidance for the nurses who will play an important role in increasing the quality of lives of the women undergoing brachytherapy.

The Effect of Gastrointestinal Symptoms on the Quality of Life of Patients Hospitalized in Internal Medicine Service
2024
Background: Due to the long hospitalization periods in internal medicine services, there are increases in the gastrointestinal problems based on several reasons such as weakness in muscles, blunting in defecation desire, the use of disposable underpads or bedpans, having difficulty to express defecation desire, change in eating habits, medications, and increase in symptoms Aims: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the gastrointestinal symptoms on the quality of life of individuals. Methods: The descriptive study was conducted in the City Hospital in Turkiye by employing the individuals hospitalized in internal medicine services between November 2019 and April 2020 (n= 500). The data were obtained through the Patient Information Form, Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS), and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. Results: In our study, 2,4% of the change in the abdominal pain score was resulted from pain and general health. It was seen that 1,4% of the change on the reflux score was due to the pain variable. A negative low relationship was found between the diarrhea symptom rate of the individuals and their health and physical functions as well as between reflux symptom rate and pain. It was further found that the quality of life of individuals was at moderate level, and gastrointestinal symptoms reduced the quality of life. Conclusions: It is recommended that nursing care plans should be prepared and consultancy should be regularly provided to decrease the gastrointestinal symptoms of the individuals in the risk group.

The Experiences of Stigma of Male Breast Cancer Patients: A Qualitative Research
2026
This study aimed to explore the stigma experiences of male breast cancer patients, a group often overlooked due to the rarity of the disease. This research focuses on how these patients perceive and are affected by social stigma during and after treatment. A qualitative phenomenological approach was adopted. The study included five male patients diagnosed with breast cancer, recruited from an oncology hospital in Central Anatolia, Turkey, between January and October 2023. Data were collected through semistructured interviews conducted via WhatsApp video calls. All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed thematically. The study followed the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) checklist. Although male breast cancer patients did not report stigma from healthcare professionals, they experienced emotional discomfort due to the predominantly female environment of breast cancer care. The findings emphasize the need to raise awareness of male breast cancer and to create healthcare environments sensitive to gender-based experiences to support the psychosocial well-being of male patients.

Repeated needle insertion into the fistula causes dry skin in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Dry skin can add to the acute pain from needle by increasing skin irritability.
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of aromatherapy massage on acute pain and dry skin following needle insertion into an arteriovenous fistula in patients undergoing HD.
The study was designed as a randomized controlled trial.
The study took place at a dialysis center in a city center in Central Anatolia in Turkey.
Participants were patients with arteriovenous fistulas who were undergoing HD at the dialysis center.
The 75 patients were randomly divided into 3 groups of 25 each: (1) the aromatherapy massage group received massage 3 times per week for a period of 4 weeks, for 12 sessions in total; (2) the olive-oil massage group also received 12 sessions of massage therapy on the same schedule; (3) the control group received only standard care.
The study measured pain levels using a visual analog scale (VAS) and skin moisture using a skin moisture analyzer.
The mean VAS scores for acute pain of the aromatherapy and olive-oil massage groups postintervention were significantly lower than those of the control group (P < .001). The average skin-moisture scores of the aromatherapy-massage group were significantly higher postintervention and at the eight-week follow-up than those of the control and olive-oil massage groups (P < .01). In addition, at the end of 8 weeks, the mean VAS pain scores were significantly lower and the skin-moisture scores were significantly higher in the aromatherapy-massage group compared to the control and olive-oil massage groups (P < .01).
Aromatherapy massage can be an effective nursing practice to manage acute pain and dry skin from needle insertion at the site of an arteriovenous fistula in HD units. Further randomized controlled trials are needed.
