Integral Theory in Action
In a world as complex as ours, an integral approach is needed to help sort through a dynamic landscape and respond effectively to individual and collective challenges. Integral Theory in Action provides the first multi-authored overview of such an approach. Integral Theory is the result of 30 years of research and is being applied in over 35 distinct disciplines. This volume brings together two dozen leading scholar-practitioners who are actively applying integral principles and who address a range of issues from an integral perspective including: climate change, embodiment, feminist aesthetics, community discourse, treatment of depression, developmental theory, and global ethics. The strengths, limitations, and potential of Integral Theory and Ken Wilber's AQAL model are weighed by each contributor. This collection pushes the field of Integral Theory in new ways and new directions, and provides a comprehensive overview that makes it an invaluable resource for any integral effort.
Integral education : new directions for higher learning
The educational challenges being faced today are driving us toward a new step in the evolution of educational theory and practice. Educators are called to go beyond simply presenting alternatives, to integrating the best of mainstream and alternative approaches and taking them to the next level. Integral Education accomplishes this by bringing together leading researchers and practitioners from higher education who are actively exploring the frontiers of education from an integral perspective. It presents an overview of the emerging landscape of integral education from a variety of theoretical and applied perspectives. Key characteristics of integral education include: exploring multiple perspectives, employing different pedagogical techniques (e.g., reflective, dialogical, empirical), combining conceptual rigor with embodied experience, drawing on developmental psychology, and cultivating a reflective and transformative space for students and teachers alike. Integral Education provides the most comprehensive synopsis of this exciting new approach and serves as a valuable resource for any integral effort within education.
EDITORIAL INTRODUCTION
First is Zachary Stein's \"On the Use of the Term Integral.\" [...]we have a delightful piece by Willow Pearson titled \"Dreaming Integral.\"
EDITORIAL INTRODUCTION
[...]the article outlines a unique three-dimensional \"octa-octant\" framework that adds a third dimension to the classic four quadrants of Integral Theory, transforming the typical 2-D model into a 3-D version. [...]I found this piece to be a great example of how to explore the evolution of consciousness in a grounded historical context.\\n He illustrates these principles of integral service through the example of transforming cultural views of love into a more mature and life-affirming views.
EXECUTIVE EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION
First we have \"The Birth of Integral Sports: Insight into Coaching Parents in Sports,\" by Nuno Matos, John Thompson, and Sean Wilkinson. [...]we have Neil Richardson's \"Walt Whitman's Vision for a New Person and a New Democracy.\"
EXECUTIVE EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION
Since publicly launching Metaintegral in June of this year I have been very busy building three integral organizations, all of which are committed to supporting the embodied and professional application of Integral Theory at a global scale. [...]I am spending a lot of time discussing with my colleagues at Metalntegral where Integral Theory is at as an academic field, as a metatheory, and as an international movement. [...]this issue represents a nice blend of perspectives along several axes of value.
EXECUTIVE EDITOR'S NOTE
[...]Integral Theory carries the torch of transpersonal psychology beyond the cul-de-sac that it unfortunately found itself in and makes the transcendental - both individually and collectively experienced - relevant to all disciplines. [...]Alderman also provides a valuable book review of Jorge Ferrer and Jacob Sherman's (2008) The Participatory Turn.
Foreword
How we relate to our own and others gender and sex is both extremely personal and profoundly philosophical. In fact, few domains of inquiry are as equally personal and simultaneously philosophical than sex, gender, and sexuality. This inquiry is personal in that few topics are more intimate to our sense of self-identity, our most immediate desires, and our needs for love, intimacy, and connection. This inquiry is philosophical in that few topics are as complex and multidimensional as this one; holding implications for what it means to be human and how we organize culture, politics, and society. For this reason,
