This study aimed to screen the cognitive profile elderly people living in long-term care institutions in the municipality of Miranda do Corvo by evaluating 174 participants with the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) (n=96) and the clinical dementia diagnosis (n=78). According to the MMSE, 41.7% of respondents had scores suggestive of cognitive impairment. The percentage rose to 67.8% (n=118) by adding the diagnosis of dementia reported in individual medical records to this result. The comparison of our results with those obtained nationwide showed that this proportion was significantly higher (p<0.001). The educational level was a predictive factor for MMSE scores (p=0.001). We can conclude that the high prevalence of suspected cognitive impairment and dementia revealed in our study should lead us to reflect on the quality of care provided and on the lack/scarcity of cognitive stimulation programs in long-term care institutions for seniors. Thus, it is imperative to implement regular cognitive assessment and to apply intervention programs for the preservation and improvement of the cognitive functioning of institutionalized elderly of deprived areas.

What if Dona Violeta was a black woman? Considerations on \O cuidado, os modos de ser (do) humano e as práticas de saúde\
Can we discuss humanization in health without bringing the expressions of racism in the health-ilness process to the centrality of the debate? Would it be possible to think of humanized care practices without considering structural and institutional racism in health? An affirmative answer to one of these questions reinforces the current myth of Brazilian racial democracy, which prevents us from recognizing or validating how much racism is alive in our society and produces unequal experiences of living, sickening, and dying for the black population, which accounts for more than 56% of the Brazilian population. In this article, in dialogue with Ayres' production on Happiness Projects and healthcare, I seek to reflect on the production of health care in the Brazilian context, considering structural racism and the prevailing myth of racial democracy in the centrality of this care production. Aggressiveness is prevalent in old age, and to adapt treatments and diminish the accompanying damage to the self and others, it is important to understand aggressiveness predictors. Poor emotional awareness, impulsivity, and emotion dysregulation are potential mechanisms influencing aggressiveness. The present study examines whether alexithymia, emotion dysregulation, and impulsivity influence aggressiveness in older adults; and whether the effect of alexithymia is conditioned by emotional dysregulation and impulsivity after controlling for probable confounders. The sample consisted of 326 Portuguese older adults (63.2% female) aged 60-96 years from residential care homes and the community. Participants completed report instruments measuring alexithymia, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and aggressiveness. Results of the mediation analysis showed that older adults who had more alexithymia tended to report higher levels of emotional dysregulation and impulsivity, which in turn accounted for higher reported aggressiveness. All these effects were independent of cognitive functioning and depressive symptoms. This study suggests the relevance of evaluating and intervening on alexithymia, impulsivity, and emotion dysregulation to reducing aggressiveness in older people.

The present study addresses the psychometric properties of the Portuguese translation and adaptation of the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale – version IV (FACES IV). The sample included 1083 individuals from 387 nuclear families, with an average age of 36 years. Besides its sociodemographic heterogeneity, the sample also included participants in various family life cycle stages and belonging to different family subsystems. We found overall good to moderate psychometric properties, namely adequate internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant ability. However, rigid and enmeshed scales presented weaker results. Normative expectations and cultural bias are discussed. FACES IV appears to be a valid and reliable measure of family dynamics, suitable for research and clinical purposes within the Portuguese context. However, further studies need to be carried out regarding the instruments’ properties in tapping extremely high cohesion (enmeshment) and low flexibility (rigidity) levels.
Highlights
The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale - version IV (FACES IV) validation with a large and heterogeneous sample of the Portuguese population.
Limitations of previous Portuguese validation efforts were addressed, namely sample homogeneity and lack of adequate measures to address convergent validity.
Portuguese FACES IV measures reliably and validly cohesion and flexibility.
Family functioning assessed according to different stages of the family life cycle and family subsystem membership.

Aim of the study: Notwithstanding its clinical and empirical relevance, there is no consensus on how to conceptualize dissociation. This may be partly due to the conflicting results yielded on the factor structure of the gold-standard selfreport measure of dissociation (the Dissociative Experiences Scale-Revised; DES-II, Carlson and Putnam, 1993). In an attempt to advance research on this topic, we sought to explore the factorial structure of an Italian version of the DES-II. Material and methods: A sample of 320 subjects (122 inmates and 198 community participants) was administered the Italian version of the DES-II. Results: The Italian version of the DES-II showed good psychometric properties and replicated a two-factor structure. Items content seemed to support the distinction into two qualitatively different forms of dissociative experiences, described as detachment and compartmentalization phenomena. In line with the expectations, participants in the inmate sample reported higher rates of dissociative experiences than community participants, on both dimensions. Conclusions: This study provides further support for the validity of the Italian version of the DES-II for use with community and inmate samples. Furthermore, we corroborated previous evidence on a two-factor structure of the DES-II, which is consistent with theoretical assumptions describing two distinct, albeit overlapping, dissociative dimensions (i.e., detachment and compartmentalization).

Nurses play a very important role in the organ donation and transplant team; therefore, they need to be qualified and trained for various tasks, including donor identification, notification to the intra-hospital donation coordination team, donor monitoring and maintenance. In Brazil, researchers highlight theimportance of nurses for the success of the organ donation process, but also identify several discrepancies in terms of knowledge and feelings that arisein the care of POD(8,9). [...]they consider it more important to care for those with a life prognosis, neglecting the necessary care for POD maintenance(9). In South Korea, in a survey conducted with nursing students, 85.1% reported not having received any training on organ donation in BD; 68% were willing to donate theirorgansifthey had BD; and 39.5% were willing to donate the organs of family members under these conditions(12). Study design, period and location This is a study of methodological approach and technological production, which corresponded to the validity, by health experts (nurses) and web designers, of a website called EMPDO website.

to classify body language used in nursing care, and propose \"Body language in nursing care\" as an analytical category for nursing communication.
quantitative research with the systematic observation of 21:43 care situations, with 21 members representing the nursing teams of two hospitals. Empirical categories: sound, facial, eye and body expressions.
sound expressions emphasized laughter. Facial expressions communicated satisfaction and happiness. Eye contact with members stood out in visual expressions. The most frequent body expressions were head movements and indistinct touches.
nursing care team members use body language to establish rapport with patients, clarify their needs and plan care. The study classified body language characteristics of humanized care, which involves, in addition to technical, non-technical issues arising from nursing communication.
