لاشك أن نظرة المجتمعات الغربية للأفكار الجديدة تختلف عن نظرة المجتمعات الشرقية لها، ويعود السبب في ذلك إلى إن التطور الحضاري للمجتمعات الغربية يختلف عن تطور المجتمعات الشرقية، حيث سلكت المجتمعات الغربية طريقا يعتمد على فصل الدين عن الدولة واعتماد المادية العلمية (أي الاعتماد على المعطيات العلمية الملموسة) كأساس كأساس لبناء مجتمعاتها الحديثة، وقد انعكس هذا التطور في نظرة المجتمعات الغربية وفهمها للعقائد والأديان وبشكل يختلف كليا عن نظرة المجتمعات الشرقية مما انعكس هذا في قبولهم لعقائد وأفكار جديدة.
