A linguistic-statistical investigation of a specific text type in a strictly limited syntactic and lexical repertoire. Collective painting titles of Klee (approximately 9000 in 40 years) were drawn from unpublished sources, analyzed with the help of a computer, and evaluated in relation to the time span. The syntactic types are defined as sequences of categories. Relative lexical variability stands in contrast to relative syntactic regularity. For this reason, only one idiolect is diachronically observed.
