State ends action against Mosaic
Mosaic's lawyer, Howard E. Stempler, said Wednesday he had not yet spoken to anyone in Mosaic, but said he was sure they were relieved. He said the attorney general's decision to take no further action affirms the position that Mosaic took all along with the city -- that everything was above board. He added that the attorney general's office reviewed many more documents than the city audit looked at, going back four or five years. One of Mosaic's harshest critics, Councilor-at-Large Michael T. Gaffney, said Wednesday he hadn't yet seen the letter, but said he was not shocked to hear the findings of the attorney general's office, given Ms. [Maura T. Healey]'s Democratic political affiliation. And he reiterated some of his original criticisms of the group, saying people don't care about paperwork or reporting agreements -- they want to make sure when nonprofits agree to take grant money to do work for the city, they actually pay their employees and \"do the doggone work.\"
