Cause-Related Marketing and Attitude Toward Corporate Image: An Experimental Study

In a world of attention scarcity, cause-related marketing strategies generate a substantially greater impact. The neurophysiological mechanisms that support favorable consumer attitudes toward cause-related marketing messages are, however, rather little understood. This study attempts to comprehend how a marketer may employ cause-related marketing initiatives to improve the company’s reputation as well as how program, company, and product identities affect consumers’ attitude toward the corporate image. Following the classical experimental design, this study uses four stimuli to investigate the effects of cause type and cause category on attitude toward corporate image. The four different stimuli used in this study are exposure to a negative corporate image of a fictitious brand, exposure to a negative corporate image with exposure to cause-related marketing message on Save Amazon Rainforest, exposure to a negative corporate image, and exposure to cause-related marketing message on Educate Homeless Children project, and exposure to a negative corporate image and exposure to cause-related marketing message on feeding the hungry homeless children with a description about the gravity of hunger among the poor homeless children of India. For this study, 1,171 urban Indian consumers were used as the sample. The study suggests that empathy-embedded cause-related marketing communications are characterized by primary need-based humanitarian causes. This study thus validates the mirror neuron hypothesis, which confirms that customer-centricity increases with the degree to which the communication content is similar to that of the respondent. A higher degree of customer-centricity results in a better advertisement attitude, which improves consumer attitude toward the corporate image.

Tumour budding in invasive ductal breast carcinomas: correlation with clinicopathological prognostic parameters and hormone receptor status

Breast cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women. Advances in molecular biology have improved detection and treatment, but conventional histopathological factors remain crucial for prognosis. Tumour budding, defined as clusters of less than 5 tumour cells detached from the main tumour, has been linked to poor prognosis in several cancers. This study explores the association between intra-tumoral budding (ITB) and peripheral tumour budding (PTB) with known prognostic factors in Invasive Breast Carcinoma of no special type (IBC NST).
This retrospective study analysed 70 cases of IBC NST diagnosed at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, between January 2020 and December 2021. Tumour budding was classified as high-grade or low-grade based on density, which denotes the number of buds per x20 field. Clinicopathological data, including hormone receptor status, Ki-67 index, lymphovascular invasion (LVI), perineural invasion (PNI), and axillary lymph node involvement, were obtained. Statistical analyses were performed to identify a significant association between tumour budding and these factors. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were also done to demonstrate the significance of association.
High-grade PTB showed significant associations with LVI (p = 0.046), PNI (p = 0.017), and axillary lymph node involvement (p = 0.021). In contrast, high-grade ITB was only significantly correlated with axillary lymph node involvement (p = 0.044). LVI (p-value = 0.240) and axillary lymph node involvement (p-value = 0.142) did not show any association with PTB on multivariate analysis and PNI (p-value = 0.074) near significant association with PTB). A significant inverse association was observed between PTB and Ki-67 (p = 0.012), which remained significant in univariate and multivariate analysis (p-value = 0.017). No significant associations were found between tumour budding and hormone receptor status or menopausal status.
Peripheral tumour budding (PTB) is significantly associated with several poor prognostic factors in IBC NST, while intra-tumoral budding (ITB) correlates primarily with axillary lymph node involvement. Tumor budding, particularly PTB, could serve as an important prognostic marker in breast cancer. Further research is needed to standardize tumour budding assessment in clinical practice.

New 200° Single-Capture Color Red-Green-Blue Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging Technology: First Clinical Experience

Background and Objective:
We investigated the additive clinical benefits of a new ultra-widefield (UWF) red-green-blue (RGB) imaging technology.
Patients and Methods:
This was a retrospective, observational, single-center study of 86 consecutive patients (172 eyes). UWF red-green (RG) and RGB images were taken using a new Optos California (Optos Plc). This scanning laser ophthalmoscope uses wavelengths of 635 nm, 532 nm, and 488 nm for the red (R), green (G), and blue laser (B), respectively. The same device can image both in UWF RG and RGB simultaneously.
Results:
The new Optos California provides a well-balanced, three-channel color image that is clinically useful in imaging and identifying vitreoretinal, retinal, and chorioretinal pathologies. The combination of the images captured by each laser source produces a final composite image that more accurately reflects the natural colors of the fundus. The addition of blue light provides additional detail to visualize the vitreoretinal interface and superficial retina, both within the posterior pole and in the periphery.
Conclusions:
This new device allows for both RG and RGB imaging of the retina, providing valuable information on the anatomy of the vitreoretinal interface, retina, retinal pigment epithelium, and their abnormalities. Both techniques complement each other and can be useful in daily practice, allowing clinicians to choose the preferred imaging technique depending on specific findings and conditions.

Objective:
To introduce VFO and SK VFO Test: new, more representative terminology for symptoms of vitreous floaters/opacities (VFO) and new standardized kinetic (SK) anatomical-functional assessment.
Materials and Methods:
Eight eyes underwent before-after limited vitrectomy (LV): best-corrected visual acuity, low-luminance visual acuity, Minnesota Low Vision Reading Chart near visual acuity in logMAR, contrast sensitivity function (CV1000E), and straylight measurements (SM) (HDA/LDA/C-Quant). SK infrared confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SK IRcSLO) and swept-source widefield optical coherence tomography (SS-WF-OCT) identified VFO and posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). SK IRcSLO was performed with gaze directed towards the extreme superior, inferior, and lateral directions.
Results:
Anatomical-functional results after LV improved in 7 eyes (87.5%): objective scatter index (27.34%), disturbance index (47.97%) and C-Quant Log units (2.26%). Pre-LV SK IRcSLO and SS-WFOCT imaging identified dynamic well-defined VFO and PVD status (100%). A residual asymptomatic anterior cortical vitreous-induced shadowing ripple effect was detected post-LV.
Conclusions:
This is the first objective-standardized test accounting for VFO kinesis and intermittent effect. There is potential for personalizing treatment and establishing best candidates for laser or surgery.

Tamoxifen for the treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms: A Phase II clinical trial and exploratory analysis

peripheral blood allele burden ≥20% (EudraCT 2015-005497-38). 38 patients were recruited over 112w and 32 completed 24w-treatment. The study’s A’herns success criteria were met as the primary outcome ( ≥ 50% reduction in mutant allele burden at 24w) was observed in 3/38 patients. Secondary outcomes included ≥25% reduction at 24w (5/38), ≥50% reduction at 12w (0/38), thrombotic events (2/38), toxicities, hematological response, proportion of patients in each IWG-MRT response category and ELN response criteria. As exploratory outcomes, baseline analysis of HSPC transcriptome segregates responders and non-responders, suggesting a predictive signature. In responder HSPCs, longitudinal analysis shows high baseline expression of JAK-STAT signaling and oxidative phosphorylation genes, which are downregulated by tamoxifen. We further demonstrate in preclinical studies that in JAK2V617F+ cells, 4-hydroxytamoxifen inhibits mitochondrial complex-I, activates integrated stress response and decreases pathogenic JAK2-signaling. These results warrant further investigation of tamoxifen in MPN, with careful consideration of thrombotic risk.
Preclinical studies indicate that myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) may be sensitive to the estrogen receptor modulator, tamoxifen. Here, the authors present a phase II clinical trial reporting the efficacy of tamoxifen in MPN and analysis of peripheral haematopoietic stem cells to identify potential predictive signatures of responders.

Objective:
Our aim was to assess central and peripheral retinal and choroidal diseases using novel simultaneous multiwavelength-ultra-widefield (MW-UWF) fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA)/indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) with navigated central and peripheral swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) technology.
Methods:
Retrospective evaluation was carried out of 30 consecutive patients (60 eyes) who underwent UWF red/green (RG), infrared (IR), FFA and ICGA with simultaneous navigated SS-OCT using Optos Silverstone (Optos PLC). Angiographic retinal and choroidal findings in vascular pathologies and their relationship with the vitreoretinal interface (VRI) were assessed.
Results:
Simultaneous FFA with navigated SSOCT was performed in all patients and simultaneous FFA-ICGA with SS-OCT in 18 eyes (30%). Cross-sectional central and peripheral changes in the retina, choroid, and VRI corresponding with angiographic findings in several diseases were imaged.
Conclusion:
First-in-human study of a new technology providing UWF RG/FFA/ICGA with simultaneous navigated central and peripheral SS-OCT can guide clinical management and provide new insights and understanding of central and peripheral retinal and choroidal disease.

Clinicopathological characteristics across the HER2 expression spectrum in invasive breast carcinoma of no special type: a single-centre retrospective study

Background
The efficacy of trastuzumab deruxtecan in HER2-low metastatic breast cancer has shifted HER2 classification from a binary framework toward a continuous expression spectrum that now includes HER2-low and HER2-ultralow categories. Accurate characterization of these subgroups is essential for therapeutic stratification, yet their clinicopathological profiles remain incompletely defined, particularly in the Indian population. This study compared the clinicopathological features and short-term outcomes of invasive breast carcinoma of no special type across four HER2-defined subgroups.
Methods
Three hundred cases of invasive breast carcinoma of no special type diagnosed on core needle biopsy at a tertiary centre in southern India (2022–2023) were classified into HER2-positive, HER2-low, HER2-ultralow, and HER2-negative subgroups using immunohistochemistry with fluorescence in situ hybridisation confirmation. Associations were evaluated using chi-square tests, Kruskal-Wallis tests, binary logistic regression, correspondence analysis, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.
Results
HER2-low constituted the largest subgroup at 51.7%, followed by HER2-positive (32.3%), HER2-ultralow (9.0%), and HER2-negative (7.0%). HER2-low tumours demonstrated significantly higher oestrogen receptor (74.8%) and progesterone receptor (61.3%) positivity, lower Nottingham grade, and a greater proportion of low Ki-67 proliferation index compared to the other subgroups. Age, menopausal status, clinical stage, tumour size, lymphovascular invasion, perineural invasion, and stromal tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte density did not differ significantly across the four subgroups. On multivariate logistic regression, progesterone receptor positivity was the sole independent predictor of HER2-low status (odds ratio 1.92, 95% confidence interval 1.05–3.50,
p
= 0.034). The triple-negative phenotype increased progressively from HER2-low (25.2%) through HER2-ultralow (40.7%) to HER2-negative (57.1%). Correspondence analysis placed HER2-ultralow in an intermediate position between HER2-low and HER2-negative. No significant survival differences were observed over a median follow-up of 23 months.
Conclusions
HER2-low tumours represent the majority of invasive breast carcinomas in this Indian cohort and exhibit a distinct profile defined by hormone receptor enrichment, lower grade, and reduced proliferative activity. The intermediate phenotype of HER2-ultralow supports its recognition as a biologically separate category. These findings highlight the importance of standardised HER2 reporting across the full expression spectrum to guide antibody-drug conjugate therapy eligibility.

Case report: Effectiveness of low-dose methotrexate monotherapy in post-essential thrombocythemia myelofibrosis

JAK/STAT pathway signalling is associated with both chronic inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis and haematological malignancies such as the myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). Here we describe a 73yo female patient with a history of chronic plaque psoriasis, post-essential thrombocythemia myelofibrosis (MF) and a quality of life substantially impacted by both conditions. We report that 15 mg oral Methotrexate (MTX) weekly as a monotherapy is well tolerated, provides a substantial clinical improvement for both conditions and significantly improves quality of life. We suggest that the recently identified mechanism of action of MTX as a JAK inhibitor is likely to explain this efficacy and suggest that repurposing MTX for MPNs may represent a clinical- and cost-effective therapeutic option.

Purpose
Assess short-term real-world outcomes in neovascular aged-related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with novel faricimab.
Methods
Retrospective case series of nine patients with nAMD (11 eyes) treated with faricimab between May and November 2022. Treatment-naïve patients and non-naïve patients underwent logMAR best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), optical coherence tomography (OCT) DRI OCT-1 Triton (Topcon Corp, Tokyo, Japan), ultra-widefield (UWF) and fundus autofluorescence (FAF) (California Optomap, Optos plc, Dunfermline, Scotland, UK). Previous treatment intervals, number of intravitreal injections, sub/intra retinal fluid (SRF/IRF), central retinal thickness (CRT) and presence/changes in pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs) were recorded.
Results
Mean baseline BCVA and CRT values of patients who switched from other agents were 0.612 ± 0.75 logMAR and 256.16 ± 12.98 µm respectively, with a mean 36-day previous treatment interval. The median number of other previous anti-VEGF intravitreal injections was 8. Mean BCVA at one month significantly improved to 0.387 ± 0.54 logMAR, as well as CRT values which decreased to 245.43 ± 15.34 µm. In the 3 naïve patients, mean baseline BVCA and CRT values were 0.33 ± 0.29 and 874.67 ± 510.86 µm, respectively. At one month follow-up, mean BCVA improved to 0.30 ± 0.29 logMAR and mean CRT was 536.04 ± 36.15 µm. Overall, a significant improvement in BCVA of 0.21 ± 41 logMAR and 238.44 ± 114.9 µm was achieved at one month after the first faricimab intravitreal injection. In addition, a complete resolution of SRF was observed in 6 out of 8 eyes (75%) and of IRF in 2 out of 3 eyes (66.67%), respectively. Drusenoid PED morphology changes were observed in all patients and no drug-related adverse events were observed.
Conclusion
Real-world outcomes showed improvement in BCVA and anatomic parameters at an early timepoint, demonstrating the efficacy and durability of faricimab in nAMD patients. Larger numbers of patients and longer follow-up are needed to determine whether the loading dose is required in all, what percentage of patients experience an improvement, and whether improvement it is maintained.

Extraction of natural colorants from Araucaria columnaris, Macaranga peltata and Averrhoa bilimbi for textile coloration

PurposeThe paper aims to investigate the feasibility of developing natural dyes from the barks of Araucaria columnaris and leaves of Macaranga peltata, Averrhoa bilimbi. The paper also deals with the application of natural dyes in textile coloration.Design/methodology/approachDye extraction was carried out using the aqueous method. The dyeability of the aqueous extract was assessed on cotton, silk and polyester yarns using different mordants (alum, acetic acid, CuSO4, lemon juice) and without mordant. UV–Visible spectral analysis and pH of different natural dyes were determined. Percent absorption, K/S values, CIELab values and fastness properties of the selected dyed yarns were also assessed.FindingsThe percentage values for dye exhaustion differed with various mordants. The K/S values were found to be influenced by the addition of mordants. Different hues were obtained with the usage of different mordants. Fastness results exhibited good to very good grades.Research limitations/implicationsThe effective application of aqueous method of dye extraction in the study avoids solvent toxicity. The current results proved that the dyeing could be achieved at room temperature for different yarns (cotton, silk, polyester). At present, no report exists in the literature of research work on the extraction of natural dyes from the leaves of M. peltata, A. bilimbi and their dyeing potential on cotton, silk and polyester.Practical implicationsThe present work offers new environment-friendly dye as well as simple dyeing method. Barks and leaves are promising sources of dye. Enormous availability of barks and leaves avoids the exploitation of the plant parts for the extraction of natural dyes.Originality/valueThe important feature of this study was the effective dyeing of natural and synthetic fibers at room temperature. The novel sources of natural dyes would contribute significantly to the existing knowledge of dyeing, and the natural dyes reduce the environmental impact of synthetic dyes.
