Industry 4.0 Technologies Applied to Inland Waterway Transport: Systematic Literature Review
The focus of this article is inland waterway transport. Different problems in this domain have been studied due to the increase in waterway traffic globally. Industry 4.0 technologies have become an alternative for the possible solution of these problems. For this reason, this paper aims to answer the following research questions: (1) What are the main problems in transporting cargo by inland waterway? (2) What technological strategies are being studied to solve these problems? (3) What technologies from Industry 4.0 are used within the technological strategies to solve the exposed problems? This study adopts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. For this work, were recovered 645 articles, 88 of which were eligible, from which we could identify five domains corresponding to (1) traffic monitoring, (2) smart navigation, (3) emission reduction, (4) analytics with big data, and (5) cybersecurity. The strategies currently being considered combine navigation technologies, such as AIS (Automatic Identification System), which offers a large amount of data, with Industry 4.0 tools and mainly machine learning techniques, to take advantage of data collected over a long time. This study is, to our knowledge, one of the first to show how Industry 4.0 technologies are currently being used to tackle inland waterway transport problems and current application trends in the scientific community, which is a first step for the development of future studies and more advanced solutions.
An Overview of Flexible Current Control Strategies Applied to LVRT Capability for Grid-Connected Inverters
Distributed power generation plays a critical role in the stability and reliability of modern power systems. Due to the rapid growth of renewable energy generation, the requirements of the transmission and distribution system operators are becoming more stringent. Among these requirements, one of the most important is the Low-Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) capability, which demands that the inverters remain connected to the grid and provide support during voltage sags. For this purpose, flexible current control algorithms stand out because they can manage unbalanced voltages and simultaneously achieve other control objectives. With the aim of presenting a concrete document focused on describing fundamental principles and discussing common design guidelines, this paper presents an overview of flexible current control strategies applied to LVRT capability. The operation features and design aspects of experiences reported in the literature are reviewed. Moreover, the paper proposes a general methodology to design LVRT flexible current control algorithms. Finally, current and future trends are discussed.
Naval AI-Based Utility for Remaining Useful Life Prediction and Anomaly Detection for Lifecycle Management
This work presents the development of an intelligent system designed to support the predictive maintenance of the Colombian Navy’s maritime vessels through the estimation of remaining useful life and unsupervised anomaly detection, within the framework of the project called “Colombian Integrated Platform Supervision and Control System” (SISCP-C). This project seeks to guarantee the sustainability of the vessels over time, increase their operational availability, and optimize their life cycle cost, in accordance with the institution’s strategic direction established in the Naval Development Plan 2042. The system provides useful information to the crew, enabling informed decision-making for intelligent and efficient maintenance strategies. To address the limited availability of normal operating data, synthetic data generation techniques with seeding are implemented, including tabular variational autoencoders, conditional tabular generative adversarial networks, and Gaussian copulas. Among these, tabular variational autoencoders achieved the best performance and are used to generate synthetic datasets under normal conditions for the Wärtsilä 6L26 diesel engine (manufactured by Wärtsilä Italia S.p.A., Trieste, Italy). These datasets are used to train several unsupervised anomaly detection models, including one-class support vector machines, classical autoencoders, and long short-term memory-based autoencoders. The long short-term memory autoencoders outperformed the others in terms of detection metrics. Dedicated multivariate long short-term memory autoencoders are subsequently trained for each engine subsystem. By calculating the mean absolute error of the reconstructions, a subsystem-specific health index is computed, which is used to estimate the remaining useful life.
Intertextuality and Mise en Abyme in Nobuhiro Suwa’s H Story and A Perfect Couple. Between European Modernity and Japan
Nobuhiro Suwa, often called “the most French of Japanese directors”, has a complex relationship with European cinematic modernity. His two feature films H Story (2001) and A Perfect Couple (2005) can provide useful case studies, as they were created in dialogue with two key references of that modernity: Hiroshima mon amour (1959, Alain Resnais) and Journey to Italy (Viaggio in Italia, 1954, Roberto Rossellini), respectively. Both films tend to confront and gloss their previous pairs, but they are also continuations of their concerns and their aesthetical discoveries. The presence of intertextuality elements connecting those films, as well as the use of myse en abyme structures are deeply analyzed in this article to attain a greater understanding on how this process of transcultural dialogue works. Besides, both films exemplify different ways of developing the references on which they are built, namely deconstruction for H Story and reconstruction for A Perfect Couple.
La emboscada de una interioridad: soledad, extrañamiento y lo sobrenatural en \Whistle and I’ll Come to You\ (1968)
Este artículo analiza el mediometraje Whistle and I’ll Come to You (Jonathan Miller, 1968) producido para la BBC, adaptación de uno de los cuentos de fantasmas más conocidos de M R. James. Se enfoca en las divergencias clave entre película y relato, particularmente en el énfasis sobre la soledad del protagonista y el extrañamiento de los espacios y objetos que le rodean que construye la película; cuestión que determina su sistema textual propio. Mediante el análisis textual, se estudia cómo distintos espacios y objetos insertos en una lógica estructural de repetición —unas sábanas, un comedor de hotel, una playa— provocan el tránsito de la interioridad restrictiva del protagonista hacia la entrada arrolladora de una exterioridad inexplicable en forma de aparición espectral. Todo ello resulta en una narrativa de terror que explora lo sobrenatural desde el detenimiento en lo material.
Voltage Support Experimental Analysis of a Low-Voltage Ride-Through Strategy Applied to Grid-Connected Distributed Inverters
In recent decades, different control strategies have been designed for the increasing integration of distributed generation systems. These systems, most of them based on renewable energies, use electronic converters to exchange power with the grid. Capabilities such as low-voltage ride-through and reactive current injection have been experimentally explored and reported in many research papers with a single inverter; however, these capabilities have not been examined in depth in a scenario with multiple inverters connected to the grid. Only few simulation works that include certain methods of reactive power control to solve overvoltage issues in low voltage grids can be found in the literature. Therefore, the overall objective of the work presented in this paper is to provide an experimental analysis of a low-voltage ride-through strategy applied to distributed power generation systems to help support the grid during voltage sags. The amount of reactive power will depend on the capability of each inverter and the amount of generated active power. The obtained experimental results demonstrate that, depending on the configuration of distributed generation, diverse inverters could have different control strategies. In the same way, the discussion of these results shows that the present object of study is of great interest for future research.
Estudio del fenómeno transitorio de inundación en buques de guerra
Into the ship stability world, this project is centered on the flooding transient phenomenon, which one has a special importance if we refer about the Ro-Ro deck of ferry ships, the hangar deck in aircraft carriers or the stowage well deck in landing amphibious warships, these ships are the heart of most of the international naval operations due to their great capacity to deploy a large force to carry out missions in a fast way. But this deck has an inherent danger if due to a weapon impact or collision, the water enters onto this huge deck producing a really great loss of stability. The hull side damage will depend on the structural strength, striking location and incident angle. If there is a collision between two ships a penetrating bow shape and transversal inertia of both vessels have to be taken into account. This paper presents a methodology to testing this phenomenon with model ships.Keywords: transient, flooding, damage, stability, collision.
