Test of lepton universality with B0 → K0ℓ+ℓ− decays
A bstract A test of lepton universality, performed by measuring the ratio of the branching fractions of the B 0 → K *0 μ + μ − and B 0 → K *0 e + e − decays, R K * 0 , is presented. The K *0 meson is reconstructed in the final state K + π − , which is required to have an invariant mass within 100 MeV /c 2 of the known K * (892) 0 mass. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 3 fb −1 , collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The ratio is measured in two regions of the dilepton invariant mass squared, q 2 , to be R K * 0 = 0.66 − + 0.07 0.11 stat ± 0.03 syst f o r 0.045 < q 2 < 1.1 GeV 2 / c 4 , 0.69 − + 0.07 0.11 stat ± 0.05 syst f o r 1.1 < q 2 < 6.0 GeV 2 / c 4 . The corresponding 95.4% confidence level intervals are [0 . 52 , 0 . 89] and [0 . 53 , 0 . 94]. The results, which represent the most precise measurements of R K * 0 to date, are compatible with the Standard Model expectations at the level of 2.1–2.3 and 2.4–2.5 standard deviations in the two q 2 regions, respectively.
Measurement of the forward Z boson production cross-section in pp collisions at s=13 TeV
A bstract A measurement of the production cross-section of Z bosons in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV is presented using dimuon and dielectron final states in LHCb data. The cross-section is measured for leptons with pseudorapidities in the range 2 . 0 < η < 4 . 5, transverse momenta p T > 20 GeV and dilepton invariant mass in the range 60 < m ( ℓℓ ) < 120 GeV. The integrated cross-section from averaging the two final states is σ Z ℓℓ  = 194.3 ± 0.9 ± 3.3 ± 7.6 pb , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is due to systematic effects, and the third is due to the luminosity determination. In addition, differential cross-sections are measured as functions of the Z boson rapidity, transverse momentum and the angular variable ϕ η * .
Measurements of the S-wave fraction in B0 → K+π−μ+μ− decays and the B0 → K∗(892)0μ+μ− differential branching fraction
A bstract A measurement of the differential branching fraction of the decay B 0 → K ∗ (892) 0 μ + μ − is presented together with a determination of the S-wave fraction of the K + π − system in the decay B 0 → K + π − μ + μ − . The analysis is based on pp -collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb −1 collected with the LHCb experiment. The measurements are made in bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, q 2 . Precise theoretical predictions for the differential branching fraction of B 0 → K ∗ (892) 0 μ + μ − decays are available for the q 2 region 1 . 1 < q 2 < 6 . 0 GeV 2 /c 4 . In this q 2 region, for the K + π − invariant mass range 796 < m Kπ < 996 MeV /c 2 , the S-wave fraction of the K + π − system in B 0 → K + π − μ + μ − decays is found to be F S = 0.101 ± 0.017 stat ± 0.009 syst , and the differential branching fraction of B 0 → K ∗ (892) 0 μ + μ − decays is determined to be d ℬ / d q 2 = 0 . 392 − 0.019 + 0.020 stat ± 0.010 syst ± 0.027 norm × 1 0 − 7 c 4 / GeV 2 . The differential branching fraction measurements presented are the most precise to date and are found to be in agreement with Standard Model predictions.
Measurement of forward W → eν production in pp collisions at s=8 TeV
A bstract A measurement of the cross-section for W → eν production in pp collisions is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb −1 collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 8 TeV. The electrons are required to have more than 20 GeV of transverse momentum and to lie between 2 . 00 and 4 . 25 in pseudorapidity. The inclusive W production cross-sections, where the W decays to eν , are measured to be σ W + → e + ν e = 1124.4 ± 2.1 ± 21.5 ± 11.2 ± 13.0 p b , σ W − → e − ν ¯ e = 809.0 ± 1.9 ± 18.1 ± 7.0 ± 9.4 p b , where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, the third are due to the knowledge of the LHC beam energy and the fourth are due to the luminosity determination. Differential cross-sections as a function of the electron pseudorapidity are measured. The W + /W − cross-section ratio and production charge asymmetry are also reported. Results are compared with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Finally, in a precise test of lepton universality, the ratio of W boson branching fractions is determined to be ℬ W → e ν / ℬ W → μ ν = 1.020 ± 0.002 ± 0.019 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
Study of the D0p amplitude in Λb0 → D0pπ− decays
A bstract An amplitude analysis of the decay Λ b 0  →  D 0 pπ − is performed in the part of the phase space containing resonances in the D 0 p channel. The study is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb −1 of pp collisions recorded by the LHCb experiment. The spectrum of excited Λ c + states that decay into D 0 p is studied. The masses, widths and quantum numbers of the Λ c (2880) + and Λ c (2940) + resonances are measured. The constraints on the spin and parity for the Λ c (2940) + state are obtained for the first time. A near-threshold enhancement in the D 0 p amplitude is investigated and found to be consistent with a new resonance, denoted the Λ c (2860) + , of spin 3 / 2 and positive parity.
Measurements of prompt charm production cross-sections in pp collisions at s√=5TeV
Production cross-sections of prompt charm mesons are measured using data from pp collisions at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 5TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.60±0.33pb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment. The production cross-sections of D0, D+, D+s, and D∗+ mesons are measured in bins of charm meson transverse momentum, pT, and rapidity, y. They cover the rapidity range 2.0
Measurement of forward W and Z boson production in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at s=8 TeV
A bstract The production of W and Z bosons in association with jets is studied in the forward region of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.98 ± 0.02 fb −1 . The W boson is identified using its decay to a muon and a neutrino, while the Z boson is identified through its decay to a muon pair. Total cross-sections are measured and combined into charge ratios, asymmetries, and ratios of W +jet and Z +jet production cross-sections. Differential measurements are also performed as a function of both boson and jet kinematic variables. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.
Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B+c→J/ψK+)/B(B+c→J/ψπ+)
The ratio of branching fractions RK/π≡B(B+c→J/ψK+)/B(B+c→J/ψπ+) is measured with pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb−1. It is found to be RK/π=0.079±0.007±0.003, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This measurement is consistent with the previous LHCb result, while the uncertainties are significantly reduced.
Observations of Λb0 → ΛK+π− and Λb0 → ΛK+K− decays and searches for other Λb0 and Ξb0 decays to Λh+h′− final states
A bstract A search is performed for the charmless three-body decays of the Λ b 0 and Ξ b 0 baryons to the final states Λ h + h ′ − , where h ( ′ ) = π or K . The analysis is based on a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb −1 of pp collisions, collected by the LHCb experiment. The Λ b 0  → Λ K + π − and Λ b 0  → Λ K + K − decays are observed for the first time and their branching fractions and CP asymmetry parameters are measured. Evidence is seen for the Λ b 0  → Λπ + π − decay and limits are set on the branching fractions of Ξ b 0 baryon decays to the Λ h + h ′ − final states.
Study of charmonium production in b-hadron decays and first evidence for the decay Bs0→ϕϕϕ
Using decays to ϕ -meson pairs, the inclusive production of charmonium states in b -hadron decays is studied with pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb - 1 , collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. Denoting by B C ≡ B ( b → C X ) × B ( C → ϕ ϕ ) the inclusive branching fraction of a b hadron to a charmonium state C that decays into a pair of ϕ mesons, ratios R C 2 C 1 ≡ B C 1 / B C 2 are determined as R η c ( 1 S ) χ c 0 = 0.147 ± 0.023 ± 0.011 , R η c ( 1 S ) χ c 1 = 0.073 ± 0.016 ± 0.006 , R η c ( 1 S ) χ c 2 = 0.081 ± 0.013 ± 0.005 , R χ c 0 χ c 1 = 0.50 ± 0.11 ± 0.01 , R χ c 0 χ c 2 = 0.56 ± 0.10 ± 0.01 and R η c ( 1 S ) η c ( 2 S ) = 0.040 ± 0.011 ± 0.004 . Here and below the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Upper limits at 90% confidence level for the inclusive production of X (3872), X (3915) and χ c 2 ( 2 P ) states are obtained as R χ c 1 X ( 3872 ) < 0.34 , R χ c 0 X ( 3915 ) < 0.12 and R χ c 2 χ c 2 ( 2 P ) < 0.16 . Differential cross-sections as a function of transverse momentum are measured for the η c ( 1 S ) and χ c states. The branching fraction of the decay B s 0 → ϕ ϕ ϕ is measured for the first time, B ( B s 0 → ϕ ϕ ϕ ) = ( 2.15 ± 0.54 ± 0.28 ± 0 . 21 B ) × 10 - 6 . Here the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the decay B s 0 → ϕ ϕ , which is used for normalization. No evidence for intermediate resonances is seen. A preferentially transverse ϕ polarization is observed. The measurements allow the determination of the ratio of the branching fractions for the η c ( 1 S ) decays to ϕ ϕ and p p ¯ as B ( η c ( 1 S ) → ϕ ϕ ) / B ( η c ( 1 S ) → p p ¯ ) = 1.79 ± 0.14 ± 0.32 .
