A study on the relationship between internet popularity and emotional perception of urban parks using Weibo data in Luoyang, China

The role of Internet Popularity (INPY) in shaping public perception of urban parks is increasingly significant. Although existing studies have explored the impact of parks on public perception, they primarily focus on traditional environmental indicators (such as NDVI and GVI), overlooking the potential influence of INPY generated on social media on public emotions. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing 41,675 social media data from Luoyang, China, quantifying emotional perception(ETPN), and using Multi-task and Hierarchical Linear regression models to explore the relationship between INPY, public perception, and urban parks. The results show: (1) INPY has varying degrees of positive influence on the Emotional Gradients (ETGD) from negative to positive, with the impact intensity increasing from low to high; (2) A 200-meter GVI is negatively correlated with negative emotions, whereas 500-meter and 1000-meter NDVI scales positively affect positive emotions; (3) Seasons affect emotional expression, particularly positive emotions. The study highlights that INPY mainly impacts positive emotions, while GVI and NDVI help mitigate negative emotions and enhance overall ETPN. These results provide urban planners with a new perspective on understanding the value of urban parks and offer scientific support for urban space optimization and policy-making.

A TLK2-mediated calcium-driven cell death pathway links neuronal degeneration to nuclear envelope disruption

Calcium overload drives neuronal cell death, but its mechanisms remain unclear. Previous studies in
Drosophila
implicated tousled-like kinase (TLK) in this process. Here, we investigated TLK2, the mammalian homolog, in calcium overload-induced neuronal death. We found that calcium overload enhances TLK2 expression, multimerization, and phosphorylation, increasing its kinase activity. Inhibiting TLK2 via RNA interference or a small-molecule inhibitor reduced neuronal death, while TLK2 overexpression triggered nuclear envelope (NE) rupture, nuclear enlargement, multinucleation, and cell cycle reentry markers. A protein complex involving TLK2, dynein light chain LC8, and myosin IIA was linked to NE disruption. In mouse models of glaucoma, TLK2 contributed to retinal ganglion cell degeneration, connecting calcium overload to neurodegeneration. We propose “CaToptosis” (Calcium-induced Tousled-like kinase-mediated cell death) as a distinct neuronal death pathway.

Pgk1 activation restores endothelial metabolic homeostasis to alleviate vascular aging and atherosclerosis

Terazosin (TZ), a well-known antagonist of the α1-adrenergic receptor (α1-AR), has demonstrated protective effects on vascular endothelial cells (ECs) and reduced vascular stiffness in clinical studies. Endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress are central drivers of cardiometabolic diseases such as diabetes, where sustained ROS burden accelerates EC senescence and barrier failure. These findings suggest its potential role in combating vascular aging and atherosclerosis; however, the underlying mechanisms remain partially understood. In this study, we investigated whether TZ can prevent atherosclerosis in ApoE
−/−
mice fed a high-cholesterol diet and aimed to elucidate the mechanisms involved. Our results showed that TZ significantly reduced plaque size, EC senescence, vascular permeability, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, effectively inhibiting atherosclerosis independently of α1-AR signaling. In cultured primary human umbilical vein ECs (HUVECs), TZ inhibited EC senescence via the Pgk1/Hsp90 pathway. It enhanced the interaction between Hsp90 and the antioxidant enzyme peroxiredoxin 1 (Prdx1), leading to lower ROS levels—a key driver of cellular senescence. These findings were confirmed in atherosclerotic ApoE
−/−
mice. Furthermore, senescent ECs exhibited increased levels of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and decreased levels of angiostatin, contributing to higher vascular permeability and exacerbating atherosclerosis. TZ effectively reversed these changes. Overall, our study demonstrates that TZ primarily alleviates EC senescence and atherosclerosis through the Pgk1/Hsp90/Prdx1 pathway, highlighting Pgk1 activation as a strategy that may also mitigate endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress in broader cardiometabolic contexts (e.g., diabetes), suggesting that TZ is a promising senomorphic agent for treating vascular aging and atherosclerosis in clinical settings and that Pgk1-targeted interventions could have implications beyond atherosclerosis.

Study on the Distribution Characteristics and Cultural Landscape Zoning of Traditional Villages in North Henan Province

Traditional villages contain rich natural and humanistic information, and exploring the spatial distribution characteristics and cultural landscape zoning of traditional villages can provide scientific support for their centralized and continuous protection and renewal and sustainable development. In this study, 326 traditional villages in the northern Henan region were taken as the research object, followed by analyzing their spatial distribution characteristics by using geostatistical methods, such as nearest-neighbor index, imbalance index, geographic concentration index, etc., combining the theory of cultural landscape to construct the traditional villages’ cultural factor index system, extracting the cultural factors of the traditional villages to form a database, and adopting the K-means clustering method to divide the region. The results show that the spatial distribution of traditional villages in northern Henan tends to be concentrated overall, with an uneven distribution throughout the region. The density is highest in the northwestern part of Hebi City and lower in the central and southern parts of Xinxiang City, Neihuang County, and Puyang City. Based on the cultural factor index system, the K-means algorithm divides the traditional villages in northern Henan into six clusters. Among them, the five cultural factors of topography and geomorphology, building materials, courtyard form, structural system, and altitude and elevation are the most significant, and they are the cultural factors that dominate the landscape of the villages. There is a significant correlation between topography, altitude, and other cultural factors, while the correlation between the street layout and other factors is the lowest. Based on the similarity between the clustering results and the landscape characteristics, the traditional villages in northern Henan can be divided into the stone masonry building culture area along the Taihang Mountains, the brick and stone mixed building culture area in the low hills of the Taihang Mountains, the brick and wood building culture area in the North China Plain, and the raw soil building culture area in the transition zone of the Loess Plateau.

Spatial Vitality Detection and Evaluation in Zhengzhou’s Main Urban Area

Urban vitality is a concept that reflects dynamic changes in economic, social, and cultural aspects, emphasizing the importance of diversified land use and dense population. With technological advancements, research methods on urban vitality are increasingly diverse, particularly with the application of big data and geographic information systems providing new perspectives and tools for such studies. Currently, research on the vitality of inland Central Plains cities in China is relatively limited and largely confined to specific administrative areas, leading to an inadequate understanding of basic economic activities and population distribution within cities. Therefore, this study aims to explore the spatial distribution characteristics of urban vitality and its influencing factors in Zhengzhou’s main urban area, providing a scientific basis for urban planning and sustainable development. This study utilizes methods that include Densi graph curve analysis, the entropy method, and the multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) model, integrating statistical data, geographic information, and remote sensing imagery of Zhengzhou in 2023. The MGWR model analysis reveals: (1) Urban vitality in Zhengzhou’s main urban area exhibits a concentric pattern, with high vitality at the center gradually decreasing toward the periphery, showing significant spatial differences in economic, population, and cultural vitality. (2) Various influencing factors positively correlate with urban vitality in the main urban area, but due to shortcomings in urban development strategies and planning, some factors negatively impact vitality in the central area while positively affecting vitality in peripheral areas. Based on these findings, this study provides relevant evidence and theoretical support for urban planning and sustainable development in Zhengzhou, aiding in the formulation of more effective urban development strategies.

Redo Total Aortic Arch Replacement in Patients with Aortic Dissection After Open-Heart Surgery and Long-Term Follow-Up Results

The objectives of this study were to investigate the main treatment strategies and long-term follow-up results of aortic dissection surgery after open-heart surgery (ADSOHS) and to analyze the risk factors that cause ADSOHS.
One hundred thirty-seven patients with ADSOHS hospitalized in our hospital from January 2009 to December 2018 were selected as the research object. Long-term follow-up results, complications, mortality, and changes of cardiac function before and after operation were used to explore the value of Sun's operation.
The length of stay in intensive care unit of these 137 patients ranged from 9.5 to 623.75 hours (average of 76.41±97.29 hours), auxiliary ventilation time ranged from 6.0 to 259.83 hours (average of 46.16±55.59 hours), and hospital stay ranged from six to 85 days (average of 25.06±13.04 days). There were seven cases of postoperative low cardiac output, 18 cases of coma and stroke, and six cases of transient neurological dysfunction. A total of 33 patients died; 19 patients died during the perioperative period, 18 died during Sun's operation and one died during other operation; and 14 patients died during follow-up (January 2021), 12 cases of Sun's operation and two cases of other operations.
ADSOHS treatment strategy is of high application value, and the risk of neurological complications and mortality is low. The main risk factors are postoperative low cardiac output, coma, stroke, and transient neurological dysfunction. The extracorporeal circulation time is relatively long. Short- and long-term follow-up effects are good, and it is worthy of clinical promotion.

Exploring integrated tertiary care for children from Nunavut: experiences of families and healthcare providers at the Aakuluk clinic in Ottawa, Canada

Children from circumpolar regions must travel long distances to southern tertiary care centres for specialised care. While there are initiatives underway to support care closer to home, medical travel remains a necessity for many families. The Aakuluk clinic has been operating since 2019 at a tertiary hospital in Ottawa, Canada, to provide care to children from Nunavut. The clinic team includes nurse case managers, physicians, social workers, interpreters, and several community partners. This project aimed to identify the strengths and the challenges of the clinic from the perspectives of parents and healthcare providers. The study was conducted in collaboration with healthcare professionals and community members and was guided by Inuit research approaches. Fifty-one participants (parents and healthcare providers) in Nunavut and Ottawa were interviewed. The main strengths and challenges of the clinic that were reported are related to the following themes: access to holistic care, supporting the role of Inuit professionals as part of the care team, and resources needed to continue offering programmes such as Aakuluk to Inuit families. From the perspectives of parents and healthcare providers, there are several components of the Aakuluk model that can be considered when developing services for Inuit families in other tertiary care centres.

Characterizing the medical and social complexity experienced by Inuit children and their families from Nunavut who access care at an urban Canadian tertiary level paediatric hospital

We aimed to characterise the medical and social complexities experienced by Inuit children and their families from Nunavut who were cared for at a general paediatrics clinic at an urban tertiary-level hospital located in Eastern Ontario. A retrospective chart review of this cohort was completed between 2016 and 2019. Two independent reviewers extracted data from charts. The cohort included 36 children, median (interquartile range [IQR]) age 13.5 (6.8, 28.2) months and full age range (1,140) months. They had a median (IQR) of 12.5 (7.8, 18.0) comorbidities, 11 (8.0, 14.2) healthcare services accessed and 3 (2, 5) medications. Almost all children (97.2%) had been hospitalised and the median number of days spent as an inpatient was 31.5. With respect to social complexity variables, 51.9% of clinical interactions (14 of 27 charts reviewed) at any point would have benefitted from an interpreter and 96.7% of 30 patient escorts/companions showed evidence of having difficulty in coping with homesickness. Improving social history taking and integrating screening for social determinants of health within the clinic should be considered. A dedicated interdisciplinary team approach focused on integrative care could be an effective method to improve communication and collaboration between service providers and with Inuit children and their families to reduce systemic health and social inequities.

This commentary piece on the editorial piece by Eivind Engebretsen and Mona Baker entitled \"The Rhetoric of Decolonizing Global Health Fails to Address the Reality of Settler Colonialism: Gaza as a Case in Point\" explores the interconnected contexts of settler colonialism affecting health in occupied Turtle Island (also known as Canada) to Palestine. Addressing true and authentic health equity work means sharpening our politics and rhetoric beyond decolonizing \"global health\" as epistemically colonial and towards meaningful solidarity work and framings of liberatory or revolutionary health. There is a moral obligation to contextualize and historicize, rather than depoliticize. This ultimately means supporting through unwavering solidarity for collective liberation through the Indigenous resistance and resurgence movements in Turtle Island to Palestine if we are serious about decolonizing global health. Moving towards rhetoric and actions for collective liberation must be the focused goal of all who care deeply about true and authentic health equity work towards just and life-affirming systems for health for all.

Association between the difference in cystatin C and creatinine-based eGFR and risks of multiple cardiovascular diseases: a prospective cohort study

, all-cause mortality, and the risk of multiple cardiovascular-related diseases.
This study analyzed data from 297,140 participants in the UK Biobank to assess the association between eGFR
, mortality, and the incidence of multiple cardiovascular-related diseases. eGFR
was classified into three groups: negative (< -15 mL/min/1.73 m
), intermediate (-15 to 15 mL/min/1.73 m
), and positive (≥ 15 mL/min/1.73 m
). Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate this association, while various sensitivity analyses were performed to assess its robustness.
During a mean follow-up of 13.1 years, the positive eGFR
group exhibited significantly lower mortality, cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence, and the occurrence of CVD-related conditions. In the fully adjusted model, participants in the negative eGFR
group had a hazard ratio of 1.44 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.40-1.49) for all-cause mortality, 1.49 (95% CI, 1.41-1.59) for CVD incidence, and 1.25 (95% CI, 1.22-1.27) for CVD mortality. The risk of all 10 CVD-related conditions was also significantly higher in the negative group, whereas the positive group exhibited significantly lower risks. For every 10 mL/min/1.73 m
