Background
Pregnancy induces physiological and psychological changes that require adaptation. Pilates, combining aerobic, strength, and flexibility exercises, is considered a safe and effective method to improve maternal and fetal outcomes. While studies highlight its benefits, a scoping review addressing the comprehensive effects of Pilates during pregnancy is lacking. This study aimed to comprehensively review the effects of Pilates during pregnancy, focusing on type, duration, frequency, practitioners, and parameters it influences.
Methods
A scoping review was conducted following Arksey and O’Malley’s framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Six databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL) were searched using MeSH terms. Studies published between January 2014 and September 2024 were included. Twenty-one studies meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed for type, duration, frequency, practitioners, and outcomes.
Results
Most studies examined the effects of Pilates on sleep quality (
n
= 6), pain (
n
= 6), depression (
n
= 5), incontinence (
n
= 4), and disability (
n
= 4). Pilates showed significant effectiveness across these parameters. Traditional Pilates (
n
= 10) was the most commonly used method, followed by online, pregnancy-specific, and clinical Pilates. The exercise duration ranged from 4 to 16 weeks, with twice-weekly sessions being the most common. Practitioners were primarily Pilates instructors (
n
= 9) and physiotherapists (
n
= 6), with one study involving a midwife.
Conclusion
Pilates is effective for improving sleep quality, pain, depression, and other maternal health outcomes during pregnancy. Variations in method, frequency, and practitioners highlight the need for standardized protocols to optimize its benefits. This review provides insights for healthcare professionals to incorporate Pilates in prenatal care.

Investigation of physical activity, fear of falling, and functionality in individuals with lower extremity lymphedema

Purpose
To investigate the fear of falling, physical activity, and functionality in patients with lymphedema in the lower extremities.
Methods
Sixty-two patients who developed stage 2–3 lymphedema in the lower extremities due to primary or secondary causes (age: 56.03 ± 7.83 years) and 59 healthy controls (age: 54.61 ± 5.43 years) were included in the study. The sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of all individuals included in the study were recorded. In both groups, fear of falling was evaluated with the Tinetti Falls Efficacy Scale (TFES), lower extremity functionality with the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), and physical activity with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF).
Results
There was no statistically significant difference between the demographic characteristics of the groups (

> 0.05). The primary and secondary lymphedema groups had similar LEFS (

Conclusion
It was determined that individuals with lymphedema developed a fear of falling, and their functionality was negatively affected. This negative effect on functionality can be attributed to reduced physical activity and an increased fear of falling.

Effects of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization and Myofascial Release Technique on Pain and Disability in Individuals With Chronic Neck Pain: A Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Trial

Background: Chronic neck pain leads to significant disability. The instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) and myofascial release technique (MRT) are effective in reducing pain and improving function. Aims: This study aimed to compare the effects of IASTM and MRT on pain and disability in individuals with chronic neck pain. Methods: Forty-eight participants were randomly divided into three groups: IASTM, MRT, and control. The IASTM group received IASTM plus conventional treatment, the MRT group received MRT plus conventional treatment, and the control group received only conventional treatment. IASTM and MRT were applied twice a week for 4 weeks. Participants’ pain and disability were assessed with the numerical rating scale (NRS) and neck disability index (NDI), respectively. Assessments were conducted at baseline, at the end of the 4-week treatment program, and at the 4-week follow-up thereafter. Results: There were significant between-group differences in pain reduction post-intervention (MD = −3.85, 95% CI: −4.27 to −3.42) and 4 weeks post-intervention (MD = −4.07, 95% CI: −4.49 to −3.64). Similarly, significant between-group differences were observed in disability scores post-intervention (MD = −15.55, 95% CI: −17.62 to −13.49) and 4 weeks post-intervention(MD = −16.57, 95% CI: −18.94 to −14.20). IASTM and MRT were more effective than the control group in reducing pain and disability after the application and 4 weeks post-intervention. The individuals participating in the study did not experience any side effects. Conclusions: The results of this study show that adding IASTM or MRT to the traditional treatment program for individuals with chronic neck pain yielded superior results in terms of pain and disability compared with traditional treatment alone.

Relationship between E-health literacy and healthy lifestyle behaviours of Turkish health sciences students

PurposeE-health literacy (EHL) and healthy lifestyle behaviours (HLBs) are important for individuals receiving health education. Health professionals of the future should be conscious, e-health literate and develop HLBs. The aims of this study were to determine the EHL and HLBs of university students receiving health education and to examine the relationship between them.Design/methodology/approachA total of 1,454 health sciences students, between the ages of 18–27, were included in the study. Participants' data were collected online via Google Forms. Participants' EHL levels were assessed with the E-Health Literacy Scale. Participants' HLB were assessed with the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Scale II.FindingsPositive weak correlation was found between EHL and HLB (p < 0.001, r = 0.329). EHL scores of bachelor’s degree students were higher than associate degree students (p = 0.004). HBL total score bachelor’s and associate degree student scores were similar (p = 0.714).Originality/valueThis article addresses an important gap in understanding health sciences students' online reading habits about health and their relationship to HLB. Considering that there is a positive relationship between EHL and HLBs of students in the health departments of universities, increasing the EHL levels of students will help to increase HLBs.

Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the general rehabilitation adherence scale in individuals with osteoarthritis

Background
To evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the General Rehabilitation Adherence Scale (GRAS) in individuals with osteoarthritis receiving physiotherapy.
Methods
Eighty-eight individuals diagnosed with osteoarthritis and undergoing physiotherapy participated in the study. The scale was translated using a forward-backward translation procedure and assessed for content validity. Construct validity was examined using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate model fit. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficients. Test-retest reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC).
Results
Content validity indices indicated adequate item relevance. Factor analyses supported a two-factor structure with acceptable model fit indices. Internal consistency was acceptable for the overall scale and subscales. Test-retest reliability demonstrated good to excellent stability over time (ICC > 0.80). The findings indicate that the Turkish GRAS is a psychometrically sound instrument for assessing rehabilitation adherence in individuals with osteoarthritis.
Conclusion
The Turkish version of the GRAS is a valid and reliable tool for evaluating adherence behaviors in individuals with osteoarthritis receiving physiotherapy. Its use may assist clinicians in identifying patients at risk of poor rehabilitation engagement and may support individualized intervention planning to optimize functional outcomes.

The Effects of Music Listening on Pain, Anxiety, and Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of music listening on pain, anxiety and quality of life in Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) patients. Methods: This randomized controlled trial included 60 patients aged 30-50 with CLBP. Participants were randomly assigned to either a control group receiving standard physiotherapy or a music group receiving the same physiotherapy accompanied by music listening. Pain intensity, anxiety levels, and quality of life were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and SF-36, respectively, at baseline and after a 4-week intervention. STABILITY OF INTERSECTIONS IN ROOM-AND-PILLAR COAL MINING

The stability of entry intersections is of prime importance in underground mining and civil engineering works since they provide the continuity of vital facets of the operations (e.g., ventilation, transportation, etc.) along various routes crossing one another. The intersections, however, are the structurally weaker regions of underground openings, and roof falls are experienced frequently in these areas. Using the finite-element method of stress analysis, the stability of a number of room-and-pillar coal-mine interactions has been evaluated. The effects of the in situ stress field and the pillar size on the stability have been investigated through a series of parametric studies while the three-way (tee) intersections are compared with the four-way (cross) intersections. According to the results of the three-dimensional analysis, a high horizontal stress field is advantageous for the stability of pillars but not for the roof over entries or over the intersections. Also, it has been noted that large pillars are more stable but they do not improve the stability of the roof to a large extent. Furthermore, for comparable models three-way intersections have yielded a better stability picture than four-way intersections. Finally, the important factors affecting the stability of intersections are discussed, and some design and support guidelines applicable to the intersections of underground excavations are presented.
