Enhanced soil fertility, plant growth promotion and microbial enzymatic activities of vermicomposted fly ash

It is reported that coal consumption in the Asia-Pacific region is going to increase to about 87.2 percent by 2035. Management of coal combustion residues (CCRs) generated by industries is a major bottleneck towards handling the repercussions of coal usage. The present study investigates a management technique for these potentially hazardous wastes by means of vermicomposting. In the present investigation, studies were made on the effects of various concentrations of vermicomposted fly ash (VCF) added to agricultural soil, on the growth and yield of tomato (
Lycopersicon esculentum
Mill.) and brinjal (
Solanum melongena
L.) plants. The toxicity of trace elements in VCF were estimated using coefficient of pollution and potential ecological risk index, which revealed no apparent risks to the environment. A gradual increase in VCF concentrations in the agricultural soil improved the physico-chemical properties, enzymatic activities, microbial biomass, carbon and microbial population upto 90 days after sowing of seeds. Evaluating diversity and stereotypes amongst AI-generated representations of healthcare providers

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) can simulate existing societal data, which led us to explore diversity and stereotypes among AI-generated representations of healthcare providers.
We used DALL-E 3, a text-to-image generator, to generate 360 images from healthcare profession terms tagged with specific race and sex identifiers. These images were evaluated for sex and race diversity using consensus scoring. To explore stereotypes present in the images, we employed Google Vision to label objects, actions, and backgrounds in the images.
We found modest levels of sex diversity (3.2) and race diversity (2.8) on a 5-point scale, where 5 indicates maximum diversity. These findings align with existing workforce statistics, suggesting that Generative AI reflects real-world diversity patterns. The analysis of Google Vision image labels revealed sex and race-linked stereotypes related to appearance, facial expressions, and attire.
This study is the first of its kind to provide a ML-based framework for quantifying diversity and biases amongst generated AI images of healthcare providers. These insights can guide policy decisions involving the use of Generative AI in healthcare workforce training and recruitment.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate results on fixed point theory in quasi-partial b-metric space recognizing a new type of mapping, which is a blend of F-contraction and Kannan contraction, and to establish the fixed point results in F-expanding type mappings. Additionally, the obtained results are the application of the contractive mappings to functional equations. Furthermore, Mathematica software is used to demonstrate the 3D shapes of the examples discussed here.

Nonunique Fixed Point Results via Kannan F-Contraction on Quasi-Partial b-Metric Space

This paper is aimed at acquainting with a new Kannan F-expanding type mapping by the approach of Wardowski in the complete metric space. We establish some fixed point results for Kannan F-expanding type mapping and F-contractive type mappings which satisfy F-contraction conditions. Additionally, some new results are given which generalize several results present in the literature. Moreover, some applications and examples are provided to show the practicality of our results.

The Paradox of Sustainable Development: A Critical Overview of the Term and the Institutionalization Process

Although the concept of sustainable development is not new it has acquired new impetus since early 80s, becoming one of the most debated and written subjects in the recent years. Intellectuals as well as ordinary mortals all across the globe are engaged in this debate. United Nations, international agencies, NGOs, national institutions, governments and civil societies are actively participating in this intense debate. Purpose of this paper is to bring out the concept and paradox of sustainable development, to provide a brief overview of global negotiations on this subject, to have a look at the prevailing ground realities despite plethora of negotiations and declarations and to highlight simple truths of human behaviour based on ancient wisdom. Most of these simple truths have remained obscured under the shadow of plethora of documents and declarations written in highly technical and unintelligible jargons.

Rapid growth of sharing economy in the last two decades may signal a paradigm shift in global capitalism and societal values. Digital platforms have brought together strangers with under-utilized capacities and assets with those who need them without looking for ownership. The radius of trust which was initially confined to family, friends and local communities; now encompasses strangers who speak no common language and who live oceans apart. Trust driven by Digital Identity (DI) and Trust and Reputation Information (TRI) have enabled what was considered as improbable or even impossible some years ago. Further expansion and deepening of trust, based on new technologies combined with international legal framework, has the potential to rewrite the apparatus of modern capitalism and societal values. Civil society and governments need to engage on this issue to guide them to a direction most beneficial for the society. However, the current extraordinary situation due to the Corona Virus pandemic, coupled with foreseeable tendencies for complete digital control, is likely to have far-reaching impact on the future development of sharing economy.

Extraction is one of the more common oral surgical procedures carried out in routine dental practice, and postextraction bleeding is a recognized, frequently encountered complication. It causes distress, agony, and discomfort to the patient. The aim of this systematic review was to analyze the existing literature and determine the efficacy of topical hemocoagulase as a hemostatic agent and its ability to reduce postoperative complications in comparison to routine saline pressure pack after the extraction of teeth. Information was collected from an electronic database (PubMed), and a manual search was also done in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology; International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; and the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Only those articles which met the inclusion criteria were selected. All studies and articles that compared topical hemocoagulase with saline pressure pack in patients requiring extraction of teeth were selected for review. Literature abstracts and full-text articles were analysed in this review. A total of four articles were included in this systematic review. All were randomized clinical trials that evaluated the clinical outcomes of topical hemocoagulase compared with saline pressure packs in extraction socket sites. A significant difference was present between the hemocoagulase group and control group (saline pressure pack) in relation to bleeding stoppage time, pain, swelling, wound healing, and other postoperative complications. Topical hemocoagulase is significantly effective in reducing bleeding, pain, and swelling after extraction of tooth when compared to saline pressure packs. It also acts as a promoter of wound healing.

Few issues have a greater impact on our lives than water. Water is a paradox: seemingly it is abundant and renewable resource, whereas only a tiny amount of it can be accessed and drinkable. Moreover, global water resources are unevenly distributed and many of them have been contaminated. Millions of people struggle with water scarcity, many times leading to water related international conflicts. Water is an international public good, with CPR and collective action problems, calling for international cooperation and actions to solve. Well-developed ancient civilizations have disappeared because of human environmental degradation, bad resource management and related socio-political problems. We should learn the lessons from our ancestors therefore wisely manage our natural resources. Such socio-cultural aspects as sustainable water governance, policy and communication can be as important as high-tech engineering for human survival from a historic perspective. Our paper is a theoretical overview and analysis of the most challenging water related issues and problems, providing theoretical as well as practical, policy oriented solutions in the end.
