Using social learning theory in examining YouTube viewers’ desire to imitate travel vloggers
2021
Purpose
Applying social learning theory and the source credibility model, this study aims to investigate the impacts of perceived attractiveness, expertise and trustworthiness of YouTube travel vloggers on viewers’ wishful identification and behavioral intention. The study also aims to examine the effects of vlogger gender on viewers’ perception and on their wish to be like the vlogger.
Design/methodology/approach
With an online data collection from 402 YouTube travel vlog viewers, a moderated mediation model was tested using multiple linear regression and multivariate nested linear regression.
Findings
This study found that physical attractiveness, social attractiveness and credibility of travel vloggers positively affected audience wishful identification, among which credibility had the strongest impact. The effect of the travel vlogger’s social attractiveness on viewer wishful identification was even strengthened when the vlogger and the viewer were of different genders. Wishful identification partially mediated the relationship between vloggers’ attributes and viewers’ behavioral intention. Finally, the finding revealed female vloggers were perceived as more physically attractive than males, whereas male vloggers were assessed as more credible than their female counterparts.
Originality/value
Expanding upon the literature on mass media and social media, this study explains the mechanism of developing intention to imitate the travel vloggers of YouTube viewers. The findings provide tourism and hospitality managers with solution in choosing the most inspirational travel vlogger to influence consumer behavior.

To assess the role of in-flight transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), we investigated a cluster of cases among passengers on a 10-hour commercial flight. Affected persons were passengers, crew, and their close contacts. We traced 217 passengers and crew to their final destinations and interviewed, tested, and quarantined them. Among the 16 persons in whom SARS-CoV-2 infection was detected, 12 (75%) were passengers seated in business class along with the only symptomatic person (attack rate 62%). Seating proximity was strongly associated with increased infection risk (risk ratio 7.3, 95% CI 1.2-46.2). We found no strong evidence supporting alternative transmission scenarios. In-flight transmission that probably originated from 1 symptomatic passenger caused a large cluster of cases during a long flight. Guidelines for preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection among air passengers should consider individual passengers' risk for infection, the number of passengers traveling, and flight duration.

Antecedents of Gen Z’s green purchase intention in Vietnam’s fashion industry with the moderating role of greenwash perception
2025
While buying sustainable fashion items is becoming more and more popular worldwide, the concept of green fashion is still relatively new in Vietnam. Besides, many fashion brands use “greenwashing” to deceive consumers and encourage their purchases. This study aims to examine the drivers of green purchasing intention among Gen Z in Vietnam’s fashion industry with greenwash perception as the moderating factor. The conceptual model was analyzed using structural equation modeling with the bootstrapping method based on data gathered from 467 Vietnamese Gen Z customers. The findings reveal significant positive influences of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and perceived consumer effectiveness on green purchase intention. Greenwash perception serves as a significant negative moderator, enhancing the relationship between the determinants and green purchasing intention. The results hold significant implications for businesses, encouraging them to embrace transparent and genuine sustainability practices instead of engaging in greenwashing. This can be achieved by clearly communicating their initiatives, offering third-party certifications, and conducting educational campaigns. The study provides original contributions to the existing body of literature and offers recommendations for future research in the context of developing countries.

Can a public health awareness campaign effectively address loneliness on a population level?
2026
Background
Loneliness has been recognised as a major global public health priority, given its strong associations with increased mortality and morbidity with physical and mental health disorders. Most solutions and strategies aimed at addressing loneliness have focused on individual-level interventions, with relatively limited attention to upstream, population-wide strategies such as public health awareness campaigns. This raises a critical question for public health: can awareness campaigns meaningfully address loneliness at a population level?
Results
This commentary examines the potential role of public health awareness campaigns in addressing loneliness, with a particular focus on stigma reduction, collective meaning-making, and social norms. Loneliness is a subjective, multifactorial experience that occurs across the life course and is shaped by diverse social, cultural, and structural factors. Population-wide campaigns therefore face unique challenges, including the risk of oversimplification, pathologisation, and reinforcing individual responsibility for what is often a socially produced experience. Drawing on evidence from population surveys, we highlight the prevalence of stigma surrounding loneliness, including negative stereotypes, reluctance to disclose loneliness, and concealment of lived experiences. We argue that awareness campaigns must move beyond information provision towards fostering empathy, normalising loneliness as a universal human signal, and promoting shared responsibility for healthy meaningful social connection.
Conclusion
While public health awareness campaigns alone cannot eliminate loneliness, they can play a critical role in reshaping societal understandings, reducing stigma, and creating a more supportive cultural environment for social connection. When theory-informed, co-designed, and rigorously evaluated, such campaigns can contribute meaningfully to population-level strategies to address loneliness.

Recently, magnetic biochars have attracted much attention and exhibited potential for dye removal from industrial wastewater. This work presents a cost-effective magnetic biochar (MBC) nanocomposite prepared from rice husk and iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs), which was tested for removal of crystal violet (CV) from aqueous solution. Morphology and structure of rice husk biochar, IONPs, and MBC were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction, and the magnetic property was investigated with a vibrating sample magnetometer. The adsorption capacity of MBC was evaluated through CV removal with experimental parameters including pH solution, adsorbent dosage, and CV concentrations at room temperature. The adsorption kinetics of MBC for CV was also analysed using pseudo-first-order, and pseudo-second-order models. Results showed that rice husk biochar-based magnetic nanocomposite has been successfully prepared. The TEM image showed that many IONPs of 10–14 nm in diameter located inside the biochar network. Experimental results indicated that the adsorption efficiency of MBC rapidly reached 99.02% for CV removal within 15 min. The adsorption capacity of MBC for CV was found at 185.6 mg/g from aqueous solution with pH 6.0, contact time of 120 min at room temperature. This study illustrated the high adsorption capacity of rice husk-based MBC for CV compared to other MBCs and showed also that it is a potential cost-effective material for removal of other organic dyes from industrial wastewater.

The Role of High-Sensitivity Troponin I in Predicting Atrial High-Rate Episodes (AHREs) in Patients with Permanent Pacemakers
2025
Atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) detected by pacemakers are linked to increased stroke risk. The predictive value of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) for AHREs in pacemaker patients remains uncertain. This study evaluated baseline hs-cTnI as a predictor for new-onset AHREs in this population.
This prospective cohort study enrolled 272 patients undergoing permanent pacemaker implantation. We excluded 40 patients with pre-existing atrial fibrillation (AF), leaving a total of 232 patients (mean age 63.7 years; 53.4% male) in the at-risk cohort. Baseline hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP were measured. The primary endpoint was new-onset AHREs (>175 bpm), detected by device interrogation over a median follow-up of 12 months.
New-onset AHREs occurred in 65 (28.0%) patients. Contrary to our hypothesis, baseline hs-cTnI levels did not differ significantly between patients who developed AHREs and those who did not (median 16.5 vs. 15.7 pg/mL,
= 0.148). Multivariable Cox regression confirmed that neither hs-cTnI nor NT-proBNP were independent predictors. Instead, Sick Sinus Syndrome (HR 2.10,
< 0.001), heart failure (HR 1.78,
= 0.010), and Left Atrial Diameter (HR 1.15,
= 0.006) were significant independent predictors.
In this high-risk pacemaker cohort, baseline hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP did not predict short-term new-onset AHREs. Established electrical and structural substrates appear to be the overwhelming drivers of arrhythmia in this specific population.

Integrated artificial intelligence in healthcare and the patient’s experience of care
2025
Healthcare is plagued with many problems that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can ameliorate or sometimes amplify. Regardless, AI is changing the way we reason towards solutions, especially at the frontier of public health applications where autonomous and co-pilot AI integrated systems are now rapidly adopted for mainstream use in both clinical and non-clinical settings. In this regard, we present empirical analysis of thematic concerns that affect patients within AI integrated healthcare systems and how the experience of care may be influenced by the degree of AI integration. Furthermore, we present a fairly rigorous mathematical model and adopt prevailing techniques in Machine Learning (ML) to develop models that utilize a patient’s general information and responses to a survey to predict the degree of AI integration that will maximize their experience of care. We model the patient’s experience of care as a continuous random variable on the open interval (
) and refer to it as the
AI Affinity Score
which encapsulates the degree of AI integration that the patient prefers within a chosen healthcare system. We present descriptive statistics of the distribution of the survey responses over key demographic variables viz. Age, Gender, Level of Education as well as a summary of perceived attitudes towards AI integrated healthcare in these categories. We further present the results of statistical tests conducted to determine if the variance across distributions of
AI Affinity Scores
over the identified groups are statistically significant and further assess the behavior of any independent distribution of
AI Affinity Scores
using a Bayesian nonparametric model.

Association of HER2-low with clinicopathological features in patients with early invasive lobular breast cancer: an international multicentric study
2025
Purpose
The antibody–drug conjugate trastuzumab deruxtecan has proven to be not only efficient in patients with HER2+ breast cancers (BC), but also in those patients with so-called HER2-low BC. HER2-low tumors are well described in the general BC population, but not in patients with invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). Here, we aimed at analyzing the association of HER2-low with clinicopathological features and survival outcomes in patients with early-stage pure ILC.
Methods
A multicentric retrospective cohort of patients diagnosed with stage I-III estrogen receptor positive (ER+) HER2 negative (HER2-) ILC between 01/01/2000 and 12/31/2020 was assembled. HER2- disease was categorized further by immunohistochemical (IHC) score into HER2 0, HER2 1+ and HER2 2+ following time appropriate ASCO/CAP guidelines from 2007 onward and by local guidelines prior to 2007. The association of HER2-low (HER2 1+ and 2+) with clinicopathological variables was assessed using multinomial logistic regression. Survival analyses were performed to evaluate the association of HER2-low with disease-free (DFS), distant recurrence-free (DRFS) and overall survival (OS).
Results
The data of 2098 patients with ER+ HER2- ILC was collected of which 1103 (52.6%) had a HER2-low tumor. Of these 716 (34.1%) had an IHC score of HER2 1+ and 387 (18.4%) of HER2 2+. In multivariable analysis, both tumor size of ≥ 2cm (OR: 1.37; 95%CI 1.01 – 1.87;
p
-value 0.042) and multifocality (OR: 1.55; 95%CI 1.11 – 2.15;
p
-value 0.009) were associated with HER2-low. HER2-low was associated with worse DFS (HR: 1.32; 95%CI 1.06 − 1.66;
p
-value 0.015) and OS (HR: 1.42; 95%CI 1.12 − 1.81;
p
-value 0.004) as compared to HER2 0. No association of HER2-low with DRFS was observed.
Conclusions
HER2-low is present in more than half of the patients with early ER+ HER2- pure ILCs and is associated with larger tumor size and multifocality. HER2-low is associated with a worse DFS and OS as compared to HER2 0.

Liquid biopsies enable non-invasive monitoring and characterization of metastatic cancer, primarily through circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in blood. The representativeness of all metastatic sites in these liquid biopsies and the clinical relevance of other body fluids remain uncertain. We performed low-pass whole genome sequencing on 216 liquid and 745 metastatic tissue samples from 20 autopsied female patients with metastatic breast cancer to assess ctDNA detection, fraction, and site representativeness in seven body fluids (blood, ascites, cerebrospinal fluid, pericardial fluid, pleural fluid, saliva, and urine). Complementarily, whole exome sequencing on 86 liquid samples from 11 patients explored mutational information. ctDNA was detected in all fluids, but most frequently in blood, followed by ascites, pleural fluid, and cerebrospinal fluid. Phylogenetic reconstruction indicated that site representativeness varies by fluid type. Mutational and gene-level copy number analyses revealed clinically relevant information unique to non-blood fluids. These findings suggest a multi-fluid approach could enhance metastatic cancer monitoring and characterization.
Liquid biopsy methods have mainly been focused on the use of peripheral blood, and comparison between body fluids has been limited. Here, the authors utilize samples from a rapid tissue donation program to compare body fluid sites in their representativeness of the metastatic disease in patients with breast cancer.

Identifying Flow Eddy Currents in the River System as the Riverbank Scouring Cause: A Case Study of the Mekong River
2022
River morphological change is the complex evolution of riverbed states, which can lead to serious riverbank failures, and is a worldwide concern. However, revealing the cause of the evolution, in particular, the potential morphological scouring by eddy currents, is difficult. Accordingly, we propose a comprehensive combination of 2D and 3D simulations to reveal the eddy currents. We selected the Vam Nao, part of the Mekong River, with semi-tidal effects and confluence flows as the case study. We created two unstructured 40 m × 40 m triangular meshes using inverse distance interpolation. This study used the Saint–Venant equations (TELEMAC2D) and Navier–Stokes equations (TELEMAC3D) to reveal the eddy currents for 2009, 2017, and 2018. TELEMAC2D (the simplified form of TELEMAC3D) was assessed for 15 days, 3 months, and 1 year, which met a satisfactory level. The eddy currents’ appearance was verified by local knowledge. We found recirculating currents near the riverbank to the East (right at the riverbank failures), whose velocity was approximately half and 1/3–1/4 of the mainstream flow velocity in the dry and flood seasons, respectively. Our study approach performed well in revealing the eddy currents, which can aid in assessing potential riverbank failures and can be applicable to similar contexts.
