As a persistent organic pollutant, methoxychlor has drawn considerable environmental attention. Photocatalysis, recognized for its environmentally friendly characteristics, has been widely utilized for the degradation of contaminants. In this study, the photocatalytic material BiVO4@diatomite was successfully synthesized via the liquid-phase precipitation method. The synthesized material was comprehensively characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and a Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, providing robust evidence for the material’s stability and biocompatibility. The results confirmed the successful deposition of BiVO4 onto the diatomite surface. Furthermore, the effects of various parameters, including the initial methoxychlor concentration, pH, light exposure duration, and illumination intensity, on the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of methoxychlor by BiVO4@diatomite were systematically investigated to optimize degradation performance. The identification of optimal reaction conditions and the proposed degradation mechanism based on experimental findings will be valuable for guiding future studies and practical applications in environmental pollution control. The integration of BiVO4 with diatomite in this study yields a novel composite system with significantly enhanced photocatalytic degradation performance, offering fresh insights into the design of efficient, stable, and eco-friendly materials for pollutant removal.

Background
Secondary dengue causes more severe disease than the primary. Early on, it is important to differentiate the two. We tried to find important clinical and laboratory differences between the two for the purpose of early differentiation.
Methods
One hundred fourteen patients confirmed on reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) were studied. On day 2 of illness IgM and IgG indices were studied for calculation of IgG/IgM ratio. A one-step immunochromatographic assay was used for classification of patients into primary and secondary dengue. Patient characteristics were also studied.
Results
Dengue serotype 1 was the most common found in 60.5% patients. 66.7% (76 patients) had secondary dengue. Secondary dengue cases had a higher mean temperature (101.56 ± 1.55 vs. 100.79 ± 1.25,°F, p 0.015), lower platelet counts (50.51 ± 38.91 vs. 100.45 ± 38.66, x 10
3
/micl,
p
<0.0001) and a significantly higher percentage of Dengue hemorrhagic fever/Dengue shock syndrome (38.2% vs. 2.6%,
p
<0.0001). In early phase of dengue NS1 and PCR were found to be better tests for diagnosis and later IgM is better. The IgG/IgM ratio of ≥ 1.10 had a sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 97.4% and accuracy of 67.5% in differentiating secondary from primary dengue.
Conclusion
Early on in the clinical course, IgG/ IgM ratio can play an important role to differentiate the two. We found the ratio of ≥ 1.10 to be the best cut off for the same.

There is a need to synthesize eco-friendly nanoparticles with more effective and potent antibacterial activities. A green and cost-effective method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Thymus vulgaris, Mentha piperita, and Zingiber officinale extracts was developed. The analytical instrumentation, namely, UV/Vis, absorption spectroscopy, FTIR, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), was used to determine the developed AgNPs, confirming the functional groups involved in their reduction. Acidic molybdate, DPPH, and FRAP regents were reacted with AgNPs extract to evaluate their antioxidant, scavenging, and oxidative activities. The agar well diffusion method was used to determine the antibacterial potential of AgNPs extracts using clinical isolates. The developed AgNPs showed peaks at 25 cum\\Diff, 50 cum\\Diff, and 75 cum\\Diff, respectively, of 16.59 ± 0.78, 45.94 ± 1.07, and 81.04 ± 0.98 nm, for Thymus vulgaris, Mentha piperita, and Zingiber officinale. SEM revealed uniform prepared and encapsulated AgNPs by plant extracts matrix. The FTIR shows the involvement of amide (-CO-NH2), carbonyl (-CO), and hydroxyl (-OH), which resulted in the reduction of AgNPs. The AgNPs extract showed significantly higher TAA, DPPH, and FRAP values than free AgNPs and plant extract (p<0.05). Antibacterial of AgNPs extracts revealed various degrees of inhibition zones against Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Staphylococcus aureus. The developed AgNPs extract showed acceptable antioxidant activities and noticeable antibacterial potential. The prepared green synthesized AgNPs showed a promising antibacterial activity against four multidrug-resistant clinical isolates, Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Staphylococcus aureus. Further, fractionated extracts other than crude extracts will be utilized in the preparation of AgNPs to get more efficient antibacterial activities for future work.

The integration of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technologies is a hybrid technology that overcomes a myriad of problems in the 5G cellular system and beyond, including massive connectivity, low latency, and high dependability. The goal of this paper is to improve and reassess the bit error rate (BER), spectrum efficiency (SE) of the downlink (DL), average capacity rate, and outage probability (OP) of the uplink (UL) in a 5G network using MIMO. The proposed model utilizes QPSK modulation, four users with different power location coefficients, SNR, transmit power, and two contrasting bandwidths 80 and 200 MHz under selective frequency Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed model’s performance is evaluated using the MATLAB software program. The DL results found that the BER and SE against transmitted power showed the MIMO-NOMA enhanced the BER performance for the best user U4 from 10−1.7 to 10−5.2 at 80 MHz bandwidth (BW), and from 10−1.5 to 10−5 at 200 MHz for transmitting power of 40 dBm. In contrast, the SE performance for the best user U4 is enhanced from 24 × 10−3 to 25 × 10−3 bits/second/Hz at 80 MHz BW and from 19.8 × 10−3 to 20 × 10−3 bps/Hz at 200 MHz BW. Although the outcomes for the UL were obtained in terms of average capacity rate and OP versus SNR at 80, and 200 MHz BW, the MIMO-NOMA result showed that the average capacity rate for the best user U4 performance improves by 12 bps/Hz for 1 dB SNR and the OP is reduced by 15 × 10−3 for 80 MHz BW and by 12 × 10−3 for 200 MHz BW at an SNR of 0.17 dB. As the BW increased the BER, the average capacity rate increased while the SE and OP decreased. For both DL/UL NOMA with and without MIMO, closed-form expressions for BER, SE, average capacity rate, and OP were obtained. All users’ performance, even those whose connections were affected by interference or Rayleigh fading channels significantly improved, when MIMO-NOMA was implemented.

A Stability‐Indicating RP‐HPLC Method for Simultaneous Determination of Triclabendazole and Levamisole in Oral Suspension Formulation
2026
A fast, simple, and precise stability‐indicating high‐performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for analysis of triclabendazole (TBZ) and levamisole (LEV) in oral suspension. Using a mobile phase composed of acetonitrile, methanol, and water (50:40:10, v/v/v), with the pH adjusted to 4.6 with 0.1 M phosphoric acid. The mobile phase was filtered, degassed, and pumped at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Detection was performed at 245 nm. The proposed method was validated with respect to specificity, linearity, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ), interday and intraday precision, robustness, and accuracy. The retention times for TBZ and LEV were found to be about 3.116 and 1.385 min, respectively. Calibration plots were linear with correlation coefficient of 0.9999 in the concentration range of 200–800 and 150–600 μg/mL for TBZ and LEV, respectively. The method was verified to be stability indicating by separating the active ingredients from their stressed testing degradation products. The procedure proved acceptable robustness to variations in flow rate, wavelength, and column temperature. The method was conveniently used for the analysis of TBZ and LEV in oral suspension.

Design of Power Location Coefficient System for 6G Downlink Cooperative NOMA Network
2022
Cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a technology that addresses many challenges in future wireless generation networks by delivering a large amount of connectivity and huge system capacity. The aim of this paper is to design the varied distances and power location coefficients for far users. In addition, this paper aims to evaluate the outage probability (OP) performance against a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for a 6G downlink (DL) NOMA power domain (PD) and DL cooperative NOMA PD networks. We combine a DL cooperative NOMA with a 16 × 16, a 32 × 23, and a 64 × 64 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and a 128 × 128, a 256 × 256, and a 512 × 512 massive MIMO in an innovative method to enhance OP performance rate and mitigate the power location coefficient’s effect for remote users. The results were obtained from Rayleigh fading channels using the MATLAB simulation software program. According to the outcomes, increasing the power location coefficients for the far user from 0.6 to 0.8 reduces the OP rate because increasing the power location coefficient for the far user decreases the power location coefficient for the near user, which results in less interference between them. In terms of the OP performance rate, the DL cooperative NOMA outperforms the NOMA. According to the findings, the DL cooperative NOMA OP rate outperforms the DL NOMA by a rate of 10−0.5. Whereas the 16 × 16 MIMO enhances the OP for the far user by 78.0 × 10−4, the 32 × 32 MIMO increases the OP for the far user by 19.0 × 10−4, and the 64 × 64 MIMO decreases the OP rate for the far user by 5.0 × 10−5. At a SNR of 10 dB, the 128 × 128 massive MIMO improves the OP for the far user by 1.0 × 10−5. The 256 × 256 massive MIMO decreases the OP for the far user by 43.0 × 10−5, and the 512 × 512 massive MIMO enhances the OP for the far user by 8.0 × 10−6. The MIMO techniques improve the OP performance, while the massive MIMO technology enhances the OP performance dramatically.

Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) encompasses a group of rare genetic diseases primarily affecting motor neurons. Among these, spastic paraplegia type 11 (SPG11) represents a complex form of HSP caused by deleterious variants in the
SPG11
gene, which encodes the spatacsin protein. Previous studies have described several potential roles for spatacsin, including its involvement in lysosome and autophagy mechanisms, neuronal and neurites development or mitochondria function. Despite these findings, the precise function of the spatacsin protein remains elusive. To elucidate its function, we conducted an extensive RNA sequencing (RNAseq) experiment and transcriptomic analysis in three distinct neural structures (cerebellum, cortex and hippocampus) and at three different ages (6 weeks, 4 months and 8 months) in both wild type and
Spg11
−/−
mice. Our functional analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) revealed dysregulation in pathways related to inflammation, RNA metabolism and neuronal and neurite development, factors frequently implicated in neurodegenerative disorders. Notably, we also observed early deregulation in cellular pathways related to cell proliferation. Our results represent a significant step towards a better understanding of the functions of spatacsin in the cell and the underlying cellular mechanisms disrupted by its absence.

Loss of spatacsin impairs cholesterol trafficking and calcium homeostasis
2019
Mutations in
SPG11
, leading to loss of spatacsin function, impair the formation of membrane tubules in lysosomes and cause lysosomal lipid accumulation. However, the full nature of lipids accumulating in lysosomes and the physiological consequences of such accumulation are unknown. Here we show that loss of spatacsin inhibits the formation of tubules on lysosomes and prevents the clearance of cholesterol from this subcellular compartment. Accumulation of cholesterol in lysosomes decreases cholesterol levels in the plasma membrane, enhancing the entry of extracellular calcium by store-operated calcium entry and increasing resting cytosolic calcium levels. Higher cytosolic calcium levels promote the nuclear translocation of the master regulator of lysosomes TFEB, preventing the formation of tubules and the clearance of cholesterol from lysosomes. Our work reveals a homeostatic balance between cholesterol trafficking and cytosolic calcium levels and shows that loss of spatacsin impairs this homeostatic equilibrium.
Boutry et al. show that the loss of spatacsin prevents the clearance of cholesterol from lysosomes by inhibiting the formation of tubules in this compartment. Accumulation of cholesterol in lysosomes increases resting cytosolic calcium levels, promoting translocation of master regulator of lysosome function TFEB.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is associated with a progressive loss of synapses and neurons. Studies in animal models indicate that morphological alterations of dendritic spines precede synapse loss, increasing the proportion of large and short (“stubby”) spines. Whether similar alterations occur in human patients, and what their functional consequences could be, is not known. We analyzed biopsies from AD patients and APP x presenilin 1 knock-in mice that were previously shown to present a loss of pyramidal neurons in the CA1 area of the hippocampus. We observed that the proportion of stubby spines and the width of spine necks are inversely correlated with synapse density in frontal cortical biopsies from non-AD and AD patients. In mice, the reduction in the density of synapses in the stratum radiatum was preceded by an alteration of spine morphology, with a reduction of their length and an enlargement of their neck. Serial sectioning examined with electron microscopy allowed us to precisely measure spine parameters. Mathematical modeling indicated that the shortening and widening of the necks should alter the electrical compartmentalization of the spines, leading to reduced postsynaptic potentials in spine heads, but not in soma. Accordingly, there was no alteration in basal synaptic transmission, but long-term potentiation and spatial memory were impaired. These results indicate that an alteration of spine morphology could be involved in the early cognitive deficits associated with AD.

The present study reports the development of a deep learning artificial intelligence (AI) model for predicting the thermal performance of evaporative cooling systems, which are widely used for thermal comfort in different applications. The existing, conventional methods for the analysis of evaporation-assisted cooling systems rely on experimental, mathematical, and empirical approaches in order to determine their thermal performance, which limits their applications in diverse and ambient spatiotemporal conditions. The objective of this research was to predict the thermal performance of three evaporation-assisted air-conditioning systems—direct, indirect, and Maisotsenko evaporative cooling systems—by using an AI approach. For this purpose, a deep learning algorithm was developed and lumped hyperparameters were initially chosen. A correlation analysis was performed prior to the development of the AI model in order to identify the input features that could be the most influential for the prediction efficiency. The deep learning algorithm was then optimized to increase the learning rate and predictive accuracy with respect to experimental data by tuning the hyperparameters, such as by manipulating the activation functions, the number of hidden layers, and the neurons in each layer by incorporating optimizers, including Adam and RMsprop. The results confirmed the applicability of the method with an overall value of R2 = 0.987 between the input data and ground-truth data, showing that the most competent model could predict the designated output features (Toutdb, wout, and Eoutair). The suggested method is straightforward and was found to be practical in the evaluation of the thermal performance of deployed air conditioning systems under different conditions. The results supported the hypothesis that the proposed deep learning AI algorithm has the potential to explore the feasibility of the three evaporative cooling systems in dynamic ambient conditions for various agricultural and livestock applications.
