4th IR and challenges for the creative and cottage industries

According to the Future of Jobs Report 2016, creativity will become one of the top three skills workers will need. With the avalanche of new products, new technologies and new ways of working, workers are going to have to become more creative in order to benefit from these changes. The global impact of 4th IR had already affected various industries, such as travel and hospitality, retail, media and the entertainment businesses, customer package goods and many others. In most countries in Asian region, government policies had been written to prepare their nation in facing the impact of the 4th IR. Most countries had plans to become the producer of high-value, diverse and complex products. So, what will happen to the small cottage industries which are run by small families through generations? Some are totally isolated from the mainstream technology and left out from the development radar. In this paper, the researcher shares a case study of an urban batik entrepreneur and some tips in preparing ourselves for the 4th IR.

Despite uncertainty and changeability, fashion is one of the world's most popular and in-demand industries. However, this industry is also known as one the most significant contributors to pollution or wastage due to the process of making the textile or clothing, for example, the volume of water consumed, pesticides, or chemicals involved. The overconsumption of fashion products and the low awareness level have caused environmental problems. Therefore, actions need to be taken to slow down or curb these issues, such as by practicing sustainability. Recycling, upcycling, and choosing slow fashion or pre-love items will contribute to fashion sustainability. Nevertheless, studies on the awareness of fashion sustainability still need to be included, for instance, among consumers in Malaysia. This study aims to explore the young Malaysian consumers' perception of sustainability awareness of fashion brands. This study uses a qualitative approach by interviewing 20 respondents. The finding reveals that most respondents have mixed reactions towards fashion sustainability regarding knowledge and practice. Moreover, this study demonstrates that the motivation for practicing fashion sustainability must be highlighted to encourage or educate consumers. This study also indicates that the knowledge of sustainability should be emphasised from the beginning of education to grow and maintain awareness. Finally, the current study explores the effectiveness of social media in spreading the fashion sustainability, as it is the leading platform used by the young generation to connect or look for information. In conclusion, the findings are relevant for academia and the fashion industry as a guideline for consumers and businesses to practice sustainability.

A psychological disorder is a mental disorder. Mental diseases or disorders are ailments that influence your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviour. They might be intermittent or persistent (chronic). They can have an impact on your capacity to interact with others and operate on a daily basis. The types of psychological disorder are Anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias, Depression, bipolar disorder, Eating disorders, Personality disorders, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia. The researcher focused on disorders caused by tension or stress in this study. Tension is classified into two types eustress and distress. In this case, The researcher selects a suitable activity based on difficulties connected to stress that patients encounter. The activity has no fire, heat, or sharp items and 10 respondent using A4 size cotton fabric to do shibori technique. Shibori or tie dye workshops are the focus of the activities. Activities that use shibori or tie dye processes make things easier and may produce outstanding outcomes. Shibori-making may improve patience, therefore it's also regarded as a beneficial pastime for emotional and mental stability. It may also be a creative and entertaining activity at the same time. The findings of this study have 2 result is was evaluation participants and evaluation product may aid patients by improving their emotional and mental stability through patience training. This session may be beneficial to patients. Colour mixing can also be considered art therapy for patients. Patients can use this session to create a conduit for their emotions and feelings to be channelled via colour. It can also promote self-confidence and empower patients by increasing creativity and productivity.

Resurgence the Local Knowledge: Environmental Catalysis Practiced in Local Textile Dyeing

The resurgence of local knowledge by using natural colourant in textile dyeing has gaining popularity due to the eco-friendly advantages and benefits. Textile dyeing process is keen as both art and science that has been practiced since human development. This paper aim to identify the process practiced in local textile dyeing with adaption of environmental catalysis. The methodology used in this study is reviewing the content by referring the previous study, text documentation and discussions. There are three (3) types of dyeing process identified in local textile production which are natural dyeing, naphthol dyeing and Remazol dyeing. The dyeing technology change with time and consumer demand by considering the economic purposes but neglecting the environment and vicinity safety. Therefore, the introduction towards environmental catalysis substances in the process of natural dyeing has led the eco-friendly chain process practices for local textile production, besides it is an initiative to create awareness and acknowledge about eco-friendly dyeing and local knowledge on textile dyeing process.

Technology in Textile Dyeing: Resurgence of Natural Dyes from Adonidia Merillii (Betel Nuts) Fruits Husk

Natural dyeing is one of the indigenous pieces of knowledge that has been explored on its potential since prehistoric decade. The process and materials used revolves nature-friendly essential, which are safe to the environment in comparison to the chemical dyeing materials. Currently, the Adonidia Merillii or also known as betel nut tree, is only used as an ornamental tree such as in landscaping. However, it has potentials of being more than an ornament and can be utilized as dyes for local textile industries. Thus, this study focused on extracting dye from young Adonidia Merillii fruits husk. Traditional boiling method was applied to extract the natural colours from the fruits. Colour testing was conducted on four (4) types of fabrics which were rayon, Crepe de Chine (CDC), China Cotton and jacquard by using post-mordanting treatment. The mordants used were aqueous lime water, alum, and ashes. The colour on the textile samples was tested and evaluated via colour fastness properties. The tests conducted include exposing textile samples to artificial light, washing, rubbing, water and perspiration. Adonidia Merillii fruits husk have given hues of brown colour staining on the textiles, but the colour changed after the test, surprisingly on the artificial light exposure. The bright colour of the initial samples appeared to be less bright than those exposed to artificial light. The brightness of the samples was determined using blue scale grading. The findings from this experimental study may contribute to the palette colour of natural dyeing on textile and extended future research about the brightness change would be significant for the Malaysia local textile industries.

Molecular basis of Rh blood group system in the Malaysian population

Rh molecular studies have been previously mainly conducted in Caucasians and African population. There is a limited data on the molecular basis for Rh genotypes among Asians.
This study aims to characterize the Rh genes and frequency of the various RH genotypes among blood donors in National Blood Centre (NBC), Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 1014 blood samples were obtained from blood donors from four different ethnic groups (360 Malays, 434 Chinese, 164 Indians and 56 others). Serological and molecular analysis of all 1014 blood samples were performed. An automated deoxyribonucleic acid sequencing analysis was performed.
Rh phenotypes and RH genotypes showed heterogeneity and significant association with ethnicities. Discrepancies in allele D, C/c and E/e between phenotypes and genotypes results were observed. Discrepancy results in allele D showed significant association with the ethnic groups of the blood donors in NBC. There were multiple novel mutations (23) and published mutations (5) found in this study. Significant associations between discrepancy results and mutations were found in allele D and C/c.
Performing RH molecular analysis in Malaysian population provided the basic database for the distribution of Rh genotypes of donors from major ethnic groups in Malaysia.

Background: RH genotyping studies have been conducted mainly in people of Caucasian and African descent. There is limited information regarding the molecular basis for RH genotypes in Malaysia.
Objectives: To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of RHCE genotypes among different ethnic groups in Malaysia.
Methods: A total of 1014 whole blood samples were obtained from donors from 4 different ethnic groups (360 Malays, 434 Chinese, 164 Indians, and 56 others). All samples were phenotyped for C, c, D, E, and e using standard serologic methods and genotyped using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based analysis.
Results: In the blood samples that we analyzed, the distribution of RH genotype antigens was significantly different among the various ethnic groups. Our findings showed that CCDee is the most common in Malaysian blood donors; 18.4% (187/1014) compared with other genotypes. The ccDEE genotype is more prevalent in the Chinese: 65.6% (82/125), and the ccee genotype is more prevalent in Indians: 47.1% (65/138). There were discrepancies between phenotypes and genotypes. There were 17 (1.7%) discrepancies in RH C/c genotyping results and of these 47% (8/17) occurred in Malays. Discrepancies in RH E/e results occurred in 3 samples (0.3%).
Conclusions: Our study provides a database for the distribution of RH genotypes of donors from the major ethnic groups in Malaysia. Methods used in this study are useful for comparing the phenotypes and genotypes. Further investigation should be conducted to study the causes of these discrepancies using other molecular based techniques.
