Color-tunable single-fluorophore supramolecular system with assembly-encoded emission
2020
Regulating the fluorescent properties of organic small molecules in a controlled and dynamic manner has been a fundamental research goal. Although several strategies have been exploited, realizing multi-color molecular emission from a single fluorophore remains challenging. Herein, we demonstrate an emissive system by combining pyrene fluorophore and acylhydrazone units, which can generate multi-color switchable fluorescent emissions at different assembled states. Two kinds of supramolecular tools, amphiphilic self-assembly and γ-cyclodextrin mediated host-guest recognition, are used to manipulate the intermolecular aromatic stacking distances, resulting in the tunable fluorescent emission ranging from blue to yellow, including a pure white-light emission. Moreover, an external chemical signal, amylase, is introduced to control the assembly states of the system on a time scale, generating a distinct dynamic emission system. The dynamic properties of this multi-color fluorescent system can be also enabled in a hydrogel network, exhibiting a promising potential for intelligent fluorescent materials.
Regulating fluorescent properties of small molecules in a controlled manner has been a fundamental research goal but realizing multi-color emission from a single fluorophore remains challenging. Here the authros demonstrate that combined pyrene fluorophore and acylhydrazone units show multi-color switchable fluorescent at different assembled states.

The developments of pure organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) have significantly facilitated the future integration and systemization of luminescent material in fundamental science and technological applications. Here, a type of photoinduced circularly polarized RTP materials are constructed by homogeneously dispersing phosphorescent chiral helical substituted polyacetylenes into a processable poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix. These substituted polyacetylenes play vital roles in the propagation of CPL and present prominently optical characteristics with high absorption and luminescent dissymmetric factors up to 0.029 (g
abs
) and 0.019 (g
lum
). The oxygen consumption properties of the films under UV light irradiation endow materials with dynamic chiro-optical functionality, which can leverage of light to precisely control and manipulate the circularly polarized RTP properties with the remarkable advantages of being contactless, wireless and fatigue-resistant. Significantly, the distinct materials with dynamic properties can be used as anti-counterfeiting materials involving photoprogrammability.

Stimuli‐responsive hydrogels: Fabrication and biomedical applications
2022
Due to their similarity to some bio‐architectures, for example, extracellular matrix, hydrogels are considered as bio‐inspired networks with bio‐mimetic and bio‐functional properties. With natural cytocompatibility and biocompatibility, hydrogels nowadays are more and more involved in various bio‐applications including shape morphing, artificial muscles, soft robotics, regenerative medicine, and so on. As an important subclass, stimuli‐responsive hydrogels have been attracting interest within decades. In response to single or multi‐triggers in biological microenvironment, stimuli‐responsive hydrogels can undergo phase transition, stiffness change, or biochemical properties activation, which make them intriguing biomaterials with broad applications including sensing, drug delivery, tissue engineering, and wound healing. This review presents typical synthetic and natural gelators comprising small molecules and polymers as building blocks of functional architectures. The fabrication strategies of hydrogels varied from supramolecular assembly to dynamic covalent binding are detailed. Various exogenous or endogenous, physical or chemical, and synthetic or natural stimuli together with response mechanism, design principle are demonstrated. Through recent examples from different perspectives, such as bionic devices, wound dressing, and cargo carrier, the benefits and opportunities of stimuli‐responsive hydrogels for biological applications are highlighted. Finally, the current challenges and future prospects in view of translation from fundamental researches to clinical application are briefly discussed. In this review, the authors aim to provide guidelines for researchers to design stimuli‐responsive hydrogels of their own interest. Different kinds of construction mode including supramolecular assembly, radical polymerization, chemical reaction and so on are introduced. Different hydrogels response to contact and non‐contact, synthetic and natural, and endogenous and exogenous signal are discussed. Various applications developed and will be developed in the future are evaluated, especially in the field of tissue engineering and regeneration medicine, which are still at its primary stage and in an urgent need of development. The growing of stimuli‐responsive hydrogels is expected to contribute to this field and provide promising perspectives.

Efficient blue light-emitting diodes based on quantum-confined bromide perovskite nanostructures
2019
The emergence of inorganic–organic hybrid perovskites, a unique class of solution-processable crystalline semiconductors, provides new opportunities for large-area, low-cost and colour-saturated light-emitting diodes (LEDs) ideal for display and solid-state lighting applications1. However, the performance of blue perovskite LEDs (PeLEDs)2–11 is far inferior to that of their near-infrared, red and green counterparts12–19, strongly limiting the practicality of the PeLED technology. Here, we demonstrate blue PeLEDs emitting at 483 nm with colour coordinates of (0.094, 0.184) and operating with a peak external quantum efficiency of up to 9.5% at a luminance of 54 cd m–2. The devices have a T50 lifetime of 250 s for an initial brightness of 100 cd m–2. The efficient blue electroluminescence originates from a structure of quantum-confined perovskite nanoparticles embedded within quasi-two-dimensional phases with higher bandgaps, prepared by an antisolvent processing scheme. Our work paves the way towards high-performance PeLEDs in the blue region.

A building-block design for enhanced visible-light switching of diarylethenes
2019
Current development of light-responsive materials and technologies imposes an urgent demand on visible-light photoswitching on account of its mild excitation with high penetration ability and low photo-toxicity. However, complicated molecular design and laborious synthesis are often required for visible-light photoswitch, especially for diarylethenes. Worse still, a dilemma is encountered as the visible-light excitation of the diarylethene is often achieved at the expense of photochromic performances. To tackle these setbacks, we introduce a building-block design strategy to achieve all-visible-light photochromism with the triplet-sensitization mechanism. The simply designed diarylethene system is constructed by employing a sensitizer building-block with narrow singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔE
ST
) to a diarylethene building-block. A significant improvement on the photochromic efficiency is obtained as well as an enhanced photo-fatigue resistance over those under UV irradiation. The balance between the visible-light excitation and decent photochromism is thus realized, promoting a guiding principle for the visible-light photochromism.
Development of light-responsive materials imposes a demand on visible-light photoswitching but this is often achieved at expense of photochromic performance. Here the authors use a building-block design to achieve a diarylethene all-visible-light photoswitch with improved photochromic efficiency and enhanced photo-fatigue resistance.

An intelligent artificial throat with sound-sensing ability based on laser induced graphene
2017
Traditional sound sources and sound detectors are usually independent and discrete in the human hearing range. To minimize the device size and integrate it with wearable electronics, there is an urgent requirement of realizing the functional integration of generating and detecting sound in a single device. Here we show an intelligent laser-induced graphene artificial throat, which can not only generate sound but also detect sound in a single device. More importantly, the intelligent artificial throat will significantly assist for the disabled, because the simple throat vibrations such as hum, cough and scream with different intensity or frequency from a mute person can be detected and converted into controllable sounds. Furthermore, the laser-induced graphene artificial throat has the advantage of one-step fabrication, high efficiency, excellent flexibility and low cost, and it will open practical applications in voice control, wearable electronics and many other areas.
The functional integration of sound generation and detection on a single device is required to assist mute people. Here, the authors demonstrate a graphene-based artificial throat capable of detecting and converting diverse throat vibrations into meaningful sound within a single device.

Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β is a multifunctional cytokine expressed by almost every tissue and cell type. The signal transduction of TGF-β can stimulate diverse cellular responses and is particularly critical to embryonic development, wound healing, tissue homeostasis, and immune homeostasis in health. The dysfunction of TGF-β can play key roles in many diseases, and numerous targeted therapies have been developed to rectify its pathogenic activity. In the past decades, a large number of studies on TGF-β signaling have been carried out, covering a broad spectrum of topics in health, disease, and therapeutics. Thus, a comprehensive overview of TGF-β signaling is required for a general picture of the studies in this field. In this review, we retrace the research history of TGF-β and introduce the molecular mechanisms regarding its biosynthesis, activation, and signal transduction. We also provide deep insights into the functions of TGF-β signaling in physiological conditions as well as in pathological processes. TGF-β-targeting therapies which have brought fresh hope to the treatment of relevant diseases are highlighted. Through the summary of previous knowledge and recent updates, this review aims to provide a systematic understanding of TGF-β signaling and to attract more attention and interest to this research area.

Fault Diagnosis of Rolling Bearing Based on HPSO Algorithm Optimized CNN-LSTM Neural Network
2023
The quality of rolling bearings is vital for the working state and rotation accuracy of the shaft. Timely and accurately acquiring bearing status and early fault diagnosis can effectively prevent losses, making it highly practical. To improve the accuracy of bearing fault diagnosis, this paper proposes a CNN-LSTM bearing fault diagnosis model optimized by hybrid particle swarm optimization (HPSO). The HPSO algorithm has a strong global optimization ability and can effectively solve nonlinear and multivariate optimization problems. It is used to optimize and match the parameters of the CNN-LSTM model and dynamically find the optimal value of the parameters. This model overcomes the problem that the parameters of the CNN-LSTM model depend on empirical settings and cannot be adjusted dynamically. This model is used for bearing fault diagnosis, and the accuracy rate of fault diagnosis classification reaches 99.2%. Compared with the traditional CNN, LSTM, and CNN-LSTM models, the accuracy rates are increased by 6.6%, 9.2%, and 5%, respectively. At the same time, comparing the models with different optimization parameters shows that the model proposed in this paper has the highest accuracy. The experimental results verified the superiority of the HPSO algorithm to optimize model parameters and the feasibility and accuracy of the HPSO-CNN-LSTM model for bearing fault diagnosis.

Experimental quantum fast hitting on hexagonal graphs
2018
Quantum walks are powerful kernels in quantum computing protocols, and possess strong capabilities in speeding up various simulation and optimization tasks. One striking example is provided by quantum walkers evolving on glued trees1, which demonstrate faster hitting performances than classical random walks. However, their experimental implementation is challenging, as this involves highly complex arrangements of an exponentially increasing number of nodes. Here, we propose an alternative structure with a polynomially increasing number of nodes. We successfully map such graphs on quantum photonic chips using femtosecond-laser direct writing techniques in a geometrically scalable fashion. We experimentally demonstrate quantum fast hitting by implementing two-dimensional quantum walks on graphs with up to 160 nodes and a depth of eight layers, achieving a linear relationship between the optimal hitting time and the network depth. Our results open up a scalable path towards quantum speed-up in classically intractable complex problems.
