Digital Technology for Sustainable Air Transport: The Impact on Older Passengers in China
2025
This study explores older passengers’ attitudes, behavior, and evaluations of digital air travel, as well as the impact of digital technologies on this demographic, using China as a case study. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for air transport companies to develop sustainable operational strategies, increase passenger satisfaction, and potentially achieve long-term viability. A structured questionnaire survey was conducted targeting this subgroup, applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the primary analytical frameworks. While the study’s sample is skewed towards digitally literate individuals, this subgroup remains highly relevant for analyzing digital impact trends, as they are the most likely to interact with and be influenced by digital air travel tools. This study suggests that older passengers, particularly young-old passengers, in China have a generally positive attitude towards the use of digital air travel tools, with time saving, convenience, and cost saving identified as the top three perceived benefits. Over 80% of participants indicated that digital technology influenced their decision to continue choosing air travel, highlighting a link between digital engagement and sustainable passenger behavior. However, as this study is limited to digitally literate “young-old” passengers in China, the findings should be interpreted as exploratory and context-specific rather than globally generalizable. Future studies are needed with broader age groups and mixed methods to verify these results.

Mapping Airport 5.0: A Conceptual Digital Maturity Model and the Application to Australian Airports
2026
Digital transformation has become one of the key drivers of airport sustainability development; however, existing digital maturity frameworks are not fully tailored to the aviation context, particularly within Australia. This study built a conceptual digital maturity model for Australian airports by integrating ISO/IEC maturity framework with the Airport 1.0–5.0 concept. A structured literature review informed the dimension formulation, and the model was validated through case studies of Australia’s Big 4 airports and one regional airport. The findings show that the Big 4 airports have largely achieved Airport 4.0 maturity, while Cairns Airport demonstrates maturity between Airport 2.5 and 3.0. These results confirm the model’s applicability and discriminative capability across diverse operational scales. The proposed model offers a practical, context-specific framework for benchmarking, planning, and guiding digital transformation initiatives across Australian airports.

2023
Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) is a policy that uses information about the health condition of systems and structures to identify optimal maintenance interventions over time, increasing the efficiency of maintenance operations. Despite CBM being a well-established concept in academic research, the practical uptake in aviation needs to catch up to expectations. This research aims to identify challenges, limitations, solution directions, and policy implications related to adopting CBM in aviation. We use a generalizable and holistic assessment framework to achieve this aim, following a process-oriented view of CBM development as an aircraft lifecycle management policy. Based on various inputs from industry and academia, we identified several major sets of challenges and suggested three primary solution categories. These address data quantity and quality, CBM implementation, and the integration of CBM with future technologies, highlighting future research and practice directions.

2020
Education is a core element of the Sustainable Development Concept. It is not only because of the declaration of SDG 4 within the 2030 Agenda but also its embeddedness in other goals, targets, and indicators. Thus, the study aims to generalize approaches to define the relationship between the efficiency of the strategy of sustainable development of the national economy and state regulation of education. The research is accomplished for 14 Central and Eastern European countries (2006–2016) using the combination of principal components method and parametric method of stochastic frontier analysis in the software package STATA 11 and FRONTIER 4.1. As a result, the empirical proofs of the strong and adequate link between the efficiency of the sustainable development strategy of the national economy and state regulation of education are identified. The technical efficiency indexes were also calculated that allowed forming three clusters for Central and Eastern European countries distributed by the level of state regulation of education and efficiency of sustainable development strategy implementation. It helps to distinguish the main measures to reform the state regulation of education in Ukraine considering the experience of Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, countries that proved to be the leaders in a sphere of sustainable development strategy implementation. The recommendations for further improvements in educational policies were defined. For instance, effective and sustainable state regulation of education should focus on decentralizing education, developing private-public partnerships, stimulating adult education development, etc. Acknowledgment and fundingThis research was funded by the grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “Reforming the lifelong learning system in Ukraine for the prevention of the labor emigration: a coopetition model of institutional partnership” (No. 0120U102001).

2021
This study aims to provide insights into the impact levels of digitalization and intelligentization on air transport system (ATS) in Australia, China, the US, and India. Air transport system is one of the most efficient transport systems which contains three elements: air traffic control, airport, and airlines. In modern society, the importance of digitalization and intelligentization in ATS is attached to by publics. In this study, firstly, comparative analysis is used to analyze the different states of digitalization and intelligentization level and air transport system in sample countries. Then, correlation analysis is used to study the correlation of the different impact factors with the ATS in different countries. The third one is regression analysis, it is used to analyze the relationship between ATS and the development of digitalization and intelligentization in four sample countries. At last, forecasting analysis is used to predict the future trend of digitalization and intelligentization’s impact on ATS in the sample countries in the next few years. Then, the most significant impact factors for ATS will be obtained. Also, the future development trends of ATS under digitalization and intelligentization’s impact could be forecasted by using econometric models.

The world has been proactively seeking solutions to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus since 2020. A major defensive action is implementing contactless services into everyday activities to reduce viral spread. Drones can provide contactless services in transporting goods and medical supplies, thus reducing the risk of spreading the virus. This paper aims to investigate the future trends of commercial uses for drones in Australia in the next five years. It will explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) industry and its different applications in Australia over the same timeframe; it also considers whether the use of drones in medical services will increase due to the epidemic. Primary data are gathered and evaluated to consider these issues, supported by a set of secondary data. The research aims to provide a holistic direction for the UAV industry, and in particular, for the Australian drone service providers and regulator to modify their operation strategies.

The impact of migration on Ukraine is multifaceted. It increases the threat of depopulation, leads to losing a part of the labour and intellectual potential, and thus, may become a factor inhibiting economic development. Today, there is a shortage of workers in almost all activities, especially in industry and construction. At the same time, according to scientists, in the absence of migration, unemployment in Ukraine would be 36.7% higher. Due to foreign earnings, the quality of life in migrant households is improving. Increasing consumer demand can contribute to the economic development of both individual regions and the country as a whole. This article aims to analyse the impact of migration processes on the regional competitiveness. Social, economic, and demographic factors should be taken into account when forming a comprehensive indicator of regional competitiveness. There is a need to evaluate the weight of individual factors and the mechanism of their impact on a comprehensive indicator of the regional competitiveness. Considering the findings of previous studies, the important role of industrial enterprises in assessing the level of regions' competitiveness is emphasized; it is necessary to study in more detail the relationship of migration processes and industrial potential of the region/country.

2022
This paper examines an assessment of the level of air transport services liberalization in Australia in order to generate recommendations on what key market access features of Air Services Agreements should be revised to reflect the changes in air transport characteristics, including the increase in air cargo traffic during the COVID-19 period. The different variants of the key market access features of ASA, levels of air transport liberalization and the extent of air transport service liberalization between Australia and 104 partner countries were analysed using descriptive study, comparison analysis and the ALI index. The ALI index is calculated for four different weighting schemes. Passenger capacity in 41 bilateral agreements contain restrictions of frequency, capacity and aircraft type. The analysis of cooperative arrangements indicated that Australia has a single aviation market only with New Zealand. The cargo capacity analysis identified different types of capacity restrictions based on weekly cargo service, volume, destinations, designated airline and aircraft types. In conclusion, cargo capacity analysis illustrates that the level of liberalization is high, but the air services agreements between Australia and other countries in the first and second cargo capacity groups should be revised to reflect the increase in air cargo traffic during COVID-19.

The article considers the possibilities of automated use of robotic equipment in order to form an infrastructure for moving goods at enterprises. Areas of application of algorithmic programming languages of object-oriented type in robotics are investigated. The algorithm of operation of a transport vehicle, the movement, which is based on the recognition of the line of motion, describing the route of movement, is presented. The analysis of the peculiarities of the implementation of such problems with the use of OpenCv software library was carried out. The structure of the vehicle is proposed, in particular: its driving mechanisms, control scheme, engines and wheelbase. Further development was made to the algorithms for the management of crawler lorries and the ways of their program realization in various spheres of entrepreneurial activity, where there is a need for the transfer of cargoes in the ordinary areas (construction sites, forest lands, open warehouses, airports, etc.). Based on the proposals for creating a cargo robot that can be moved according to a given route, the model of control system of conveyor systems, which solve the issues of automation of technological processes in the part of the addition of conveyor systems, is presented. The analysis of literary sources describing the necessity of creating mobile conveyor systems in production, which enables to quickly re-equip production processes to unforeseen needs, was carried out.
