Generative AI in Improving Personalized Patient Care Plans: Opportunities and Barriers Towards Its Wider Adoption
The main aim of this study is to investigate the opportunities, challenges, and barriers in implementing generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in personalized patient care plans (PPCPs). This systematic review paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state, potential applications, and opportunities of Gen AI in patient care settings. This review aims to serve as a key resource for various stakeholders such as researchers, medical professionals, and data governance. We adopted the PRISMA review methodology and screened a total of 247 articles. After considering the eligibility and selection criteria, we selected 13 articles published between 2021 and 2024 (inclusive). The selection criteria were based on the inclusion of studies that report on the opportunities and challenges in improving PPCPs using Gen AI. We found that a holistic approach is required involving strategy, communications, integrations, and collaboration between AI developers, healthcare professionals, regulatory bodies, and patients. Developing frameworks that prioritize ethical considerations, patient privacy, and model transparency is crucial for the responsible deployment of Gen AI in healthcare. Balancing these opportunities and challenges requires collaboration between wider stakeholders to create a robust framework that maximizes the benefits of Gen AI in healthcare while addressing the key challenges and barriers such as explainability of the models, validation, regulation, and privacy integration with the existing clinical workflows.
Implementing School-to-Home Communication Platform With Parents, Stakeholders, and the Community
The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of a School-to-Home Communication Platform in fostering greater involvement from stakeholders, parents, and the community. The study centers on the assessment of the platform's usefulness in facilitating collaborative connections, promoting student achievement, and enhancing communication. The study used a mixed methods approach to explore feedback obtained from a wide range of participants, assess the influence of the platform on educational results, and identify exemplary methodologies. The results indicated notable enhancements in parental participation and community engagement, underscoring the potential of the platform as a means of connecting educational institutions with their larger communities.
Testing the specificity of executive functioning impairments in adolescents with ADHD, ODD/CD and ASD
Current diagnostic systems conceptualise attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant/conduct disorder (ODD/CD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as separate diagnoses. However, all three demonstrate executive functioning (EF) impairments. Whether these impairments are trans-diagnostic or disorder-specific remains relatively unexplored. Four groups of 10–16 year-olds [typically developing (TD; N = 43), individuals clinically diagnosed with ADHD (N = 21), ODD/CD (N = 26) and ASD (N = 41)] completed Go/NoGo and Switch tasks. Group differences were tested using analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA) including age, IQ, sex, conduct problems and ADHD symptoms as co-variates. Results indicated some disorder-specificity as only the ASD group demonstrated decreased probability of inhibition in the Go/NoGo task compared to all other groups. However, shared impairments were also found; all three diagnostic groups demonstrated increased reaction time variability (RTV) compared to the TD group, and both the ODD/CD and the ASD group demonstrated increased premature responses. When controlling for ADHD symptoms and conduct problems, group differences in RTV were no longer significant; however, the ASD group continued to demonstrate increased premature responses. No group differences were found in cognitive flexibility in the Switch task. A more varied response style was present across all clinical groups, although this appeared to be accounted for by sub-threshold ODD/CD and ADHD symptoms. Only the ASD group was impaired in response inhibition and premature responsiveness relative to TD adolescents. The findings suggest that some EF impairments typically associated with ADHD may also be found in individuals with ASD.
An Assessment of Corporate Environmental Programs and Their Performance Measurement Systems
Leading American businesses are moving beyond basic compliance with environmental regulations and are now striving to make the management of environmental issues an integral part of their day-to-day business. As a result, environmental management systems are crucial and innovative companies are developing programs to measure environmental performance. A benchmark study was performed to gather environmental program management and environmental performance measurement information from 33 major companies in four industry sectors (utility, paper, consumer products, and chemical). Environmental management systems are strategic programs in place to address and control environmental, health, and safety issues. The companies chosen were believed to be \"best in class\" within the environmental performance area. \"Best in class\" companies are those companies believed by their peers to be superior in a specific area. A survey tool was developed to acquire the information with questions related to environmental management systems and very specifically to environmental performance measurements. Of the 33 companies contacted, 18 companies participated in the survey. Environmental performance and environmental management rating systems were developed to analyze trends within and between specific industries. The chemical industry was found to be superior to the other industries in management of environmental programs and in measuring environmental performance. The paper industry had the next highest rating with the consumer products and utility industries lowest in performance. Although the utility industry, as a whole, trailed the three other industries, the highest rated company in the survey was an electric generating corporation.
Improving patient care through IT innovation
The business and clinical requirements of healthcare IT have evolved at a much faster pace. While there have been significant advancements in disease research, the system is coping with an ever-growing aging population with complex medical needs, staff shortages and increased patient demand. There is a virtual \"epidemic\" in chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and mental illness.
