Wissen und Diskurshoheit
The linguae & litterae series, edited by Peter Auer, Gesa von Essen and Werner Frick, documents the research activities of the School of Language and Literature of the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). These research activities in literary studies and linguistics are characterized by an approach that is theoretically and methodologically \"state of the art\" and interdisciplinarily open. In linguistics the accent is on the corpus-based, quantitative and qualitative investigation of language; in literary studies the focus is on the comparative, transdisciplinary analysis of literary phenomena in their cultural contexts. At the same time the series deals with the productive interfaces and synergies between modern linguistics and literary studies (as well as the humanities, social and natural sciences with which they interact). It seeks a new, contemporary reformulation of the humanities research curriculum and its problem and concept orientation for the future. The series has a clear international orientation - each volume is multilingual, containing German, English and French contributions and, depending on the volume, articles in Italian or Spanish as well. Each individual volume is peer reviewed by an international editorial board. Each year 2-4 volumes are published.
Turning Traditions Upside Down
Some of the world's most eminent researchers on Bruno offer an exhaustive overview of the state-of-theart research on his work, discussing Bruno's methodological procedures, his epistemic and literary practices, his natural philosophy, or his role as theologian and metaphysic at the cutting-edge of their disciplines. Short texts by Bruno illustrate the reasoning of the contributions. The book also reflects aspects of Bruno's reception in the past and today, inside and outside academia.

Archipels élevés contre les ruines de la carte. Introduction à l'oeuvre d'Emmanuel Ruben, écrivain européen
« TAI VERSI CON QUALI AD ALTRI VI MOSTRASTE MAI »
The poems included in Giordano Bruno’s De gli eroici furori constitute the dialogue’s core : they drive the development of its philosophical argument. They are central from a linguistic point of view, too, as they are different from the surrounding prose text while profoundly informing it. Therefore, they present particular difficulties for the translator. In this essay, I contrast the few existent translations of the Furori into French, German and English in order to outline a basic typology of the translation of the poems. After considering the prefaces and notes of the translators in order to understand better the aims they set for their work, I reflect upon my own choices for the new version of the translation of the Furori in the German « Giordano Bruno Werke » edition.
Turning Traditions Upside Down
A non-conformist at the dawn of an epoch, a martyr of modernity, or just a polemic controvert? Giordano Bruno is known today as an exceptional, yet ambivalent figure within the history of ideas. Some of the world’s most eminent researchers on Bruno offer an exhaustive overview of the state-of-theart research on his work, discussing Bruno’s methodological procedures, his epistemic and literary practices, his natural philosophy, or his role as theologian and metaphysic at the cutting-edge of their disciplines.
