When Vice President J.D. Vance spoke at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi two weeks ago, a young man in a red MAGA hat had a question for him: \"I'm a Christian, man, and I'm just confused why there's this notion that we might owe Israel something, or that they're our greatest ally.\" He continued, \"Or that we have to support this multi-billion dollar foreign aid package to Israel to cover this, to quote Charlie Kirk, 'ethnic cleansing' in Gaza.\" (In his very last interview be fore his assassination in September, Kirk said to the Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro, \"Ben, some people would want to accuse Israel of wanting to ethnically cleanse.\") Vance sidestepped the young man's question and instead promoted the ad ministration's Gaza peace plan and assured the audience that Israel was not \"manipulating or controlling\" the president.

In March, it was reported that the Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg had been part of a private Signal chat that also included then--National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Vice President J.D. Vance, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and others. They discussed sensitive plans about bombing Yemen. The greatest focus after the story broke was how Goldberg, a journalist, could have possibly been included in this chat. Legacy media and left-leaning news outlets pounced on this aspect, eager to highlight the Trump administration's supposed incompetency. Few to none focused on the wisdom of attacking the Houthis, something Vance questioned in the chat.

Rueda documents in detail the gradual build-up of paranormal phenomena around Raymond over a period of months, eventually culminating with a successful performance of the Roman Catholic rite of exorcism, during which the Devil was ostensibly banished from the boy's body. The book also makes a very useful contribution to historical work on the paranormal by drawing together different strands of the paper-trail surrounding the case, in particular the commentary of parapsychology pioneers J. B. and Louisa Rhine (1895-1980 and 1891-1983 respectively), and the testimony contained in the Jesuit report. The origin and evolution of Saturn’s rings is critical to understanding the Saturnian system as a whole. Here, we discuss the physical and chemical composition of the rings, as a foundation for evolutionary models described in subsequent chapters. We review the physical characteristics of the main rings, and summarize current constraints on their chemical composition. Radial trends are observed in temperature and to a limited extent in particle size distribution, with the C ring exhibiting higher temperatures and a larger population of small particles. The C ring also shows evidence for the greatest abundance of silicate material, perhaps indicative of formation from a rocky body. The C ring and Cassini Division have lower optical depths than the A and B rings, which contributes to the higher abundance of the exogenous neutral absorber in these regions. Overall, the main ring composition is strongly dominated by water ice, with minor silicate, UV absorber, and neutral absorber components. Sampling of the innermost D ring during Cassini’s Grand Finale provides a new set of in situ constraints on the ring composition, and we explore ongoing work to understand the linkages between the main rings and the D ring. The D ring material is organic- and silicate-rich and water-poor relative to the main rings, with a large population of small grains. This composition may be explained in part by volatile losses in the D ring, and current constraints suggest some degree of fractionation rather than sampling of the bulk D ring material.

Implications from secondary emission from neutral impact on Cassini plasma and dust measurements

We investigate the role of secondary electron and ion emission from impact of gas molecules on the Cassini Langmuir Probe (RPWS-LP, or LP) measurements in the ionosphere of Saturn. We add a model of the emission currents, based on laboratory measurements and data from comet 1P/Halley, to the equations used to derive plasma parameters from LP bias voltage sweeps. Reanalysing several hundred sweeps from the Cassini Grand Finale orbits, we find reasonable explanations for three open conundrums from previous LP studies of the Saturn ionosphere. We find an explanation for the observed positive charging of the Cassini spacecraft, the possibly overestimated ionospheric electron temperatures, and the excess ion current reported. For the sweeps analysed in detail, we do not find (indirect or direct) evidence of dust having a significant charge-carrying role in Saturn's ionosphere. We also produce an estimate of H2O number density from the last six revolutions of Cassini through Saturn's ionosphere in higher detail than reported by the Ion and Neutral Mass Spectrometer (INMS). Our analysis reveals an ionosphere that is highly structured in latitude across all six final revolutions, with mixing ratios varying with two orders of magnitude in latitude and one order of magnitude between revolutions and altitude. The result is generally consistent with an empirical photochemistry model balancing the production of H+ ions with the H+ loss through charge transfer with e.g., H2O, CH4 and CO2, for which water vapour appears as the likeliest dominant source of the signal in terms of yield and concentration.
