Prisoner of the state : the secret journal of Premier Zhao Ziyang
This book is the only record ever been made of how the Chinese autocracy works from the inside: in excruciating details, we are told about the power plays, the shenanigans, the mini-coups, the subterfuges, and the entrenched prejudices of members of China's politburo. Will receive major publicity. Embargoed title.
Paleogeomorphology of Kulon Progo during the oligocene-early miocene
2026
Exploration of natural resources in the Kulon Progo dome often faces obstacles. This is because the paleogeomorphological and stratigraphic dynamics of the region are not yet understood, including stratigraphic relationships at the same time but having different stratigraphic contact forms, as happened in the Oligocene - Early Miocene. At that time, two different stratigraphic contacts were formed, first the unconformity contact between the OAF and the Jonggrangan Formation above it, and the conformity contact between the OAF and the Sentolo Formation. Stratigraphic contact between the Jonggrangan Formation and the Sentolo Formation itself cannot be found. This study aims to provide an overview of what actually happened in the Late Oligocene to Early Miocene, including the paleogeomorphology of the basin and its stratigraphic succession. The research was conducted using a field investigation method on the stratigraphic contacts of OAF-Jonggrangan Formation, and OAF-Sentolo Formation, field data were then analyzed in the laboratory including rock age and depositional environment. The results show that the Jonggrangan Formation is formed in a basin that is not integrated with the Sentolo Formation. Both are limited by a height in the form of an active volcano until the Early Miocene.

Preliminary study on the characterization of geothermal fluids at Mount Jobolarangan (old Mount Lawu) western side and its implications for geothermal exploration
2026
Mount Jobolarangan, also known as Old Lawu, is located on the southern side of Mount Lawu in Karanganyar, Central Java. This Research is crucial to understand the geothermal resource potential within it. The purpose of this study is to conduct a lithology and geochemical analysis of geothermal fluids to determine the characteristics of the fluids and their potential implications for geothermal exploration. The research method used is in the form of surface geological research, which is divided into field data analysis, petrography and geochemistry. The geochemistry method used in this research involves fluid (water and gases) geochemical sampling with AAS and XRF analysis. The study area contains andesite lava formed from volcanic activity that products by subduction with the temperature of magma forming in the range 1090°C - 1098°C. The geothermal manifestations in the study area are hot springs, which exhibit a bicarbonate fluid type. These geothermal fluids belong to the boundary zone between immature water and partial equilibrium, with a subsurface temperature ranging from 80°C to 120°C. The high magnesium content indicates that the geothermal fluid has been influenced by surface water and contact with surrounding rocks. The reservoir temperature is between 82°C and 86°C included in low-temperature geothermal system category.

Characterizing the extreme and heavy rainfall events in the Serang catchment, Indonesia using satellite data
2026
This study analyses the characteristics of heavy and extreme rainfall in the Serang Watershed, Kulon Progo, during 2019-2021 by combining observational rainfall data with GSMaP satellite data. Intensity, duration, and frequency (IDF) analysis was used to understand rainfall dynamics in a tropical region influenced by the monsoon and the topography of the Menoreh Hills. The results show a bimodal rainfall pattern with peaks in March and December, while June-August is very dry. Short-duration extreme rainfall (>30 mm/hour) occurs mainly at the beginning and end of the rainy season, related to convective and/or orographic processes. Stations at high elevations record greater rainfall and higher rainfall intensity than those at low elevations. Comparison with GSMaP shows a significant positive bias in rainfall duration and total rainfall, as well as low temporal correlation due to satellite limitations in detecting local convective rainfall. These findings suggest that hydrological risks in the Serang Catchment are more influenced by the intensity and duration of extreme rainfall than by total annual rainfall. Integration of bias-corrected observational and satellite data is needed to improve the accuracy of extreme rainfall estimates and to support flood mitigation, erosion control, and watershed management.
