Perceived overqualification? Examining its nexus with cyberloafing and knowledge hiding behaviour: harmonious passion as a moderator

Purpose
This study aims to assess the nexus between perceived overqualification (POQ), anger, knowledge hiding, cyberloafing and harmonious passion (HP).
Design/methodology/approach
The authors obtained 264 responses from two public traded firms in Pakistan using a supervisor-subordinated nested design and a multi-time data collecting strategy using convenience sampling.
Findings
The study results indicate that POQ positively affects knowledge hiding and cyberloafing. The authors also found anger as a potential mediator in the direct association between POQ and cyberloafing. In addition, the findings suggest that the association between POQ, knowledge hiding and cyberloafing will be weak when individuals exhibit HP towards their job roles. The results of this research, when considered as a whole, provided support for all of the hypothesised direct and indirect linkages, which has important ramifications for both theory and practise.
Research limitations/implications
This study has both theoretical and practical implications. Grounded on equity theory and relative deprivation theory, this paper asserts that HP should be used to decrease POQ affect. According to the authors, pro-environment employee actions may help build a pro-environment workplace culture as well as a pro-environment sense of responsibility, both of which can help to achieve significant pro-environment results.
Originality/value
This study builds on and fills in the gaps left by earlier research to better aid organisational researchers, practitioners and stakeholders in understanding how POQ, rage, information concealing, cyberloafing and harmonic passion interact with one another.

Assessing the socio-economic impact of climate change on wheat production in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

This study involves the climate change impact assessment of wheat producers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. An extensive farm survey of 150 farms was designed. From study area, three districts, namely, Chitral, D.I. Khan, and Peshawar, were selected through multistage sampling process. Yield simulation from Crop model DSSAT (Decision Support System for Agro Technology Transfer) was used for socio-economic impact assessment. Future climate scenarios were generated by selecting five GCMs from latest CMIP5 family with two RCPs 4.5 and 8.5, at two carbon concentrations of 499 ppm and 571 ppm, respectively. Yield simulations were analyzed for each GCM. Results of crop model revealed that wheat yield will increase in district Chitral, while in D.I. Khan and Peshawar, yields would be reduced due to climate change. For socio-economic impact assessment, TOA-MD (Trade-Off Analysis for Multi-Dimensional Impact Assessment) version 6 was used. Climate change impacts on poverty, net farm returns, and per capita income were calculated for different scenarios. The analysis was carried out on per-farm basis. The economic model results revealed that climate change has negative impact on wheat producers in D.I. Khan and Peshawar while making wheat producers better off in Chitral. The number of losers ranged from 54 to 66.21% and 50 to 61.99% in D.I. Khan and Peshawar, respectively. Losers are the farmers who would be economically worse off under perturbed climate. With current climate, the observed poverty rate would be 34 to 49 in D.I. Khan while 21.26 to 34.03 in Peshawar. The study recommended need for adaptation strategies to overcome the vulnerabilities of climate change.

A hedonic analysis of agricultural land prices in Pakistan`s Peshawar district

This study investigates determinants for agricultural land prices in Peshawar district of Pakistan. A linear hedonic model is used to analyze data set on sale prices of agricultural land parcels and their agricultural, location and environmental characteristics. Results show that agricultural land price is affected positively by soil fertility, amount of irrigation water and closeness to agricultural market. Among location characteristics, distance to city, distance to main road and distance to nearest houses have significant effects on land prices. Agricultural land located closer to city, main road or houses has significantly higher price compared to a more distant land. Environmental degradation such as polluted freshwater bodies has negative effect on nearby agricultural land prices. Based on these findings and review of relevant literature, the study recommends government intervention for conservation of agricultural land, investment in developing agricultural infrastructure such as dams, irrigation canals, roads, transport, agricultural markets, etc., and provision of subsidized fertilizers and other inputs to increase farmers? returns and change their perception to favour using their land for agriculture.

This research endeavor was designed to gauge the role of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices in employee's performance. This study has encompassed employee empowerment as a moderating variable to further assess the relationship between HRM practices and job performance. The HRM practices employed in this research includes selection, training, and participation. The total of 130 sampled respondents was selected from the target population by adopting the proportional allocation sampling technique. The sampled respondents include administrative employees and teaching faculty of two public sector universities named as Hazara University, Mansehra and The University of Agriculture, Peshawar. The reliability of scales was computed using Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient which reveals that all scales were found to have good reliability. The major findings of regression analysis depicts that all the selected HRM Practices have significant and positive effect on job performance. Furthermore, the moderating variable i.e. employee empowerment is observed as a substantial parameter which is enhancing the relationship between HRM practices and job performance.

This study was conducted to analyze the acreage response of maize with respect to price and non-price factors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The time-series data for the period of 35 years (1976-2010) pertaining to, maize area, maize price, rice price, maize yield, average rainfall were collected from various published sources. Nerlovian adjustment lag model and Vector Auto Regression (VAR) technique of estimation was employed for analyzing acreage response of maize. The expected maize price was unlikely found to be negative and statistically insignificant. The regression coefficients for lag rice price and lag maize yield also appeared insignificant. Area under maize in lagged year was found to be an important variable influencing farmer's decision on acreage allocation. Small area adjustment coefficient (0.2845) revealed low rate of farmers' area adjustment to desired level because of more institutional and technological constraints. Based upon the findings of this study it can be concluded that farmers allocate land to maize crop mainly basing on their previous allocation pattern rather than relative crop prices.

Objective Chronic pain is a prevalent condition which has a significant effect on the lives of those it impacts. High‐frequency 10 kHz spinal cord stimulation (10 kHz SCS) has been shown to provide paresthesia‐free pain relief for a wide variety of pain indications. This article summarizes the current and emerging data as they relate to the clinical use of the therapy in various pain syndromes. Methods A literature search was conducted using the PubMed electronic database using keywords related to 10 kHz SCS. The database was queried from 2013 to May 2019. Articles reporting clinical studies that included human subjects permanently treated with 10 kHz SCS (Senza® system) were included in the review. Recent and relevant conference proceedings known to the authors were also included. Results The selected literature demonstrated significant evidence for the efficacy of 10 kHz SCS in treating chronic back and leg pain (CBLP), including a randomized, controlled trial as well as prospective and retrospective studies. One‐year follow‐up responder rates (pain relief ≥50%) ranged from 60% to 80%. Other studies and case series showed promising outcomes in specific conditions, including nonsurgical refractory back pain, neuropathic limb pain, complex regional pain syndrome, chronic widespread pain, chronic pelvic pain, and intractable headache. Subgroup analyses also pointed toward the potential of 10 kHz SCS being successful when low‐frequency SCS has failed. The vast majority of these studies reported improved quality of life (QOL) metrics and/or reduced opioid consumption. Conclusions Level I evidence already exists for the efficacy of 10 kHz SCS in treating CBLP, supported by real‐world clinical experience. Other studies demonstrate the potential of the therapy across a range of chronic pain etiologies, although larger confirmatory studies are recommended. Overall, the literature suggests that the therapy is associated with improved QOL as well as reduced opioid consumption.

As the need for higher data rates for communication increases, the terahertz (THz) band has drawn considerable attention. This spectral region promises a much wider bandwidth and the transmission of large amounts of data at high speeds. However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed before the THz telecommunications technology hits the consumer market. One of the recurring concerns is that THz radiation is greatly absorbed by atmospheric water-vapor. Although many studies have presented the attenuation of THz signals under different atmospheric conditions, these results analyze specific temperature or humidity values, leaving the need for a more comprehensive analysis over a wider range of climate conditions. In this work, we present the first study of the attenuation of THz radiation over a broad range of temperatures and humidity values. It is worth noticing that all of our measurements have been undertaken at atmospheric pressure unlike many previous studies where the pressure was not kept constant for various temperatures. Furthermore, we extend our analysis beyond the impact of absolute humidity on the bit error rate in THz communications. We also discuss the refractivity of the atmosphere, examining its variations across different temperatures and humidity levels. THz propagation is studied using two different measurement systems, a long-path THz time-domain spectrometer as well as a quasi-optic setup with vector network analyze. We also compare the results with the ITU-R P.676-13 propagation model. We conclude that the attenuation at the absorption peaks increases linearly with water content and has no dependence on the temperature, while the refractive index, away from absorption lines, namely at 300 GHz shows a sub-linear increase with humidity.

The activated B-cell–like (ABC) subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) relies on chronic active B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling. BCR pathway inhibitors induce remissions in a subset of ABC DLBCL patients. BCR microclusters on the surface of ABC cells resemble those generated following antigen engagement of normal B cells. We speculated that binding of lymphoma BCRs to self-antigens initiates and maintains chronic active BCR signaling in ABC DLBCL. To assess whether antigenic engagement of the BCR is required for the ongoing survival of ABC cells, we developed isogenic ABC cells that differed solely with respect to the IgH V region of their BCRs. In competitive assays with wild-type cells, substitution of a heterologous V region impaired the survival of three ABC lines. The viability of one VH4-34⁺ ABC line and the ability of its BCR to bind to its own cell surface depended on V region residues that mediate the intrinsic autoreactivity of VH4-34 to self-glycoproteins. The BCR of another ABC line reacted with self-antigens in apoptotic debris, and the survival of a third ABC line was sustained by reactivity of its BCR to an idiotypic epitope in its own V region. Hence, a diverse set of self-antigens is responsible for maintaining the malignant survival of ABC DLBCL cells. IgH V regions used by the BCRs of ABC DLBCL biopsy samples varied in their ability to sustain survival of these ABC lines, suggesting a screening procedure to identify patients who might benefit from BCR pathway inhibition.
