The New Penelopean Poetics
2015
The Greeks have a certain authority, for they are the source of the Western traditions of poetry, philosophy, and science. The figure of Penelope in the Homeric epic can be seen as a symbol not only for woman's trials in general but also for the trials of the woman artist in a man's world. This study explores the penelopean myth as ideological tool of patriarchal system and it argues that gender stereotypes set in Greek myths have been recreated later by the modern American poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay. Encouraged by the feminist movement, Millay revised and rewrote the penelopean myth highlighting the gender stereotyping as an important feature in her poems, \"The Ballad of the Harp-Weaver,\" and \"An Ancient Gesture.\"

Soil monitoring is essential for pursuing several sustainable development goals including ‘Zero Hunger’ and ‘Life on Land’. This study examined the status of national soil monitoring laboratories in Mediterranean countries through a multi-country survey to assess strengths and gaps. The results showed that most national soil labs performed basic tests related to soil health and agricultural management, such as texture, pH, and nutrient analysis. However, fewer labs performed more specific tests that are also relevant to these applications such as compaction and biological analysis. Furthermore, tests required for assessing soil pollution, such as heavy metals, were conducted only by few labs. This was mostly due to a lack of equipment like atomic absorption spectrometers. In total, 75% of labs reported good quality of the instruments and frequent calibration. The staff were generally well qualified, with most holding graduate degrees, and women comprised 58% of the staff. Many national services started using electronic reports and provided result interpretation for end users, but not all used lab information systems. The findings highlight the need for better equipment, more advanced testing, and stronger digital management systems. Addressing these issues will help harmonize soil data and support sustainable land management and agriculture in the region.

Pressure-induced effects on PrAO3 (A = Cr and Fe) ferromagnets: a DFT study for spintronic and energy storage devices
2023
In this work, we conduct a comprehensive theoretical investigation of magnetic perovskites PrAO

using density functional theory, exploring their structural, elastic, mechanical, thermal, and electronic attributes under pressure conditions from 0 to 50 GPa. Our findings reveal the stability of the studied structures, meeting standard criteria such as energy optimizations, tolerance factor, mechanical stability, and enthalpy of formation. Notably, the structural parameters show excellent reliability, especially under ambient conditions, while the modulus of elasticity demonstrates enhanced structural stability with pressure linearly. We observe a decrease in anharmonicity and an increase in thermal conductivity under pressure. Additionally, the compounds exhibit a ductile nature with improved conducting properties. In the realm of electronic properties, the Moss–Burstein shift and a band gap transition from indirect to direct phase are observed, indicating potential applications in fast magneto-optical switches, electrochromic and spintronic devices.

JUDAIC CHRISTIAN AND ISLAMIC MYTHOLOGY IN LORD BYRON.S HEBREW MELODIES
Although many Jewish readers and commentators have recognized Lord Byron's Hebrew Melodies as proto-Zionist songs since their composition to the music of the Jewish composer, Isaac Nathan in 1815, there are traces of Christian and Islamic mythology beside the Old Testament that Byron seemed to imitate in his \"Songs of Zion\". Some of Byron's lyrics stem from Biblical sources, others are not. His characters are derived from both the Old and New Testaments, and the atmosphere that he presents, in the Melodies, is realistically and authentically, as many of Byron's scholars have noticed, derivative from the 'Islamic Levant' that he sought for salvation after the failure of his relationship with his conventionally devoted wife, Annabella
