Effective Apology
Politicians apologizing, celebrities needing to apologize, and business leaders failing at the attempt fill today's headlines. In fact, we all have occasion to apologize. But we don't need more apologies, says John Kador. We need more effective ones that restore strained relationships, create possibilities for growth, and generate better outcomes for all. Effective Apology challenges you to think about the fundamental value of an apology, to you and the receiver, as it explores in detail the key dimensions—what Kador calls the Five Rs—of a wholehearted apology, one that heals and renews. Kador also offers advice on how to accept or reject an apology, ten apology dos and don'ts, and a quiz to test your Apology Quotient. The willingness to apologize signals strength, character, and integrity—real leadership is impossible without it. With over 70 examples of the good, the bad, and the ineffective apology in action, no other book combines such a practical, how-to approach with a rich analysis of what it takes to make apology work in the real world.

Financial Planning for Families With Disabilities
More than a healthcare program for people with low incomes, Medicaid is not only the nation’s primary health insurance program for people with disabilities but also a ticket to numerous services for individuals with disabilities and their families. Most people understand Medicaid as a health care benefit for low-income people. To receive SSI benefits in New York, an individual may not have more in countable resources than $2,000 or gross income from work that exceeds $1,913 per month. [...]Pooled Income Trusts, like Special Needs Trusts, are irrevocable; contributions cannot be reversed. [...]a payback provision means that upon the beneficiary’s death, any funds remaining in the trust (up to the total lifetime medical assistance paid on behalf of the beneficiary) must be turned over to the Medicaid state that provided benefits.

What Is the FPA Financial Planning Challenge?
A three-student team from Texas Tech University clinched first place at the Financial Planning Challenge hosted by the Financial Planning Association, Ameriprise, and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. In Phase 3, the teams competed in a game show-style financial planning knowledge contest called “How Do You Know?” that tests specific knowledge in areas such as estate planning, insurance and taxation (see Can You Pass the Financial Planning Challenge?). “The way FPA, CFP Board and Amerprise have constructed the Financial Planning Challenge gives it a real-world feel that is well focused on preparing the next generation of financial planners,” Guillemette said.
