MAKIN' IT REAL: BUILDING A BRIGHT 3-D FUTURE FOR PLANNING
2013
In an interview, Bob King is an instructional designer and instructor of media studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Art in Winston-Salem North Carolina, discuss some tools from the field of instructional design that school librarians might use in collaboration with teachers to design meaningful and real-world learning opportunities for students. King said that used as a conceptual tool, the idea of three-dimensionality can, first of all, help teachers spot the conceptual problems within the traditional 2-D planar model of planning, and, thereby, guide their actions in building a new model. This process starts with understanding the concept of 3-D and the way it functions in human life both as a reality principle and as a kind of guidance system for action. Until quite recently, psychologists held that the main purpose of human perception is to gain knowledge about the world, but evolutionary psychologists are now suggesting that the main purpose of perception is not mere knowledge, but to guide action.
