Development of a new technology for improving the quality of food raw materials of animal origin
The use of silver, which is a potent antibiotic, has attracted our interest in testing it as an anti-stress drug for technological stresses such as transportation and pre-slaughter handling. Based on the results, we have developed a new technology for improving the quality of food raw materials, including the intramuscular injection of ultrafine particles (UFP) of silver at a dose of 0.01 mg / kg of live weight. This allows improving the quality characteristics of by-products (liver, kidneys, lungs), which is characterized by an increase of both saturated fatty acid (namely, palmitic one) by 23.7% and unsaturated (oleic) acid by 38.6%; and at a dosage of 0.05 mg / kg of live weight - in terms of myristic, palmitic and oleic fatty acids compared to the control group without the drug administration. This contributed to a decrease in the activity of free radical oxidation in animals and increased adaptive abilities. However, the best adaptive qualities with an increase in the amount of corresponding fatty-acids were animals who were intramuscularly injected with UFP of silver at a dose of 0.01 mg/kg of body weight.
Improving the selection of cows according to a complex evaluation indicator
The expediency of improving the indicators of judgment assessments of individual breeding characteristics of the Hereford cattle breed is justified. The proposed method of selecting cows according to a complex evaluation indicator is based on the principle of a point assessment with the correction of the selection significance of the absolute value of some economically useful characteristics that are definitely related to the economy of animal breeding. At the same time, it is characterized by the Breeding Value Index (BVI), which allows you to complete a selection group of cows in breeding herd with breeding value from 70 points and above. The main values of constructed index must select or create such genotypes that would combine the most important and desirable combinations of breeding traits. The method is universal for cows of different breeds, types, herds, provides breeding and formation of more highly productive and technological animals on the basis of meat productivity.
Effect of silver nanoparticles on product loss reduction under technological stress
Silver nanoparticles, which until recently were used as an antibacterial agent, are of great interest. In our study, we tested them as an effective anti-stress agent for animals subjected to short-term stressors - transport and pre-slaughter. Intramuscular administration of silver nanoparticles at a dose of 0.01 and 0.05 mg/kg body weight for seven days before technological stress had a positive effect on the adaptive qualities of animals. In the control group, weight loss in 18-month-old bulls weighing 481.6 kg were 2.0% (P <0.05) and 1.8% (P <0.05) higher, respectively. At the same time, during transport and pre-slaughter the loss of body weight in animals of the experimental groups was 19.3% and 13.6% lower compared to the control group. The best results were obtained for bulls, which were intramuscularly injected with emulsion of silver nanoparticles at a dose of 0.01 mg/kg body weight.
