THOSE SUBORDINATES BEING PROMOTED DID NOT NECESSARILY SHARE COMMON BACKGROUND AND ATTITUDES WITH SUPERIORS BUT, PERCEPTUALLY, WERE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE AWARE OF THEIR SUPERIORS VIEWS THAN WERE THOSE NOT CONSIDERED FOR PROMOTION.
