Biden's Prudent Decision To Withdraw From Afghanistan
Larison discusses the decision of US president Biden to withdraw from Afghanistan. Biden understood that the choice was between getting out or being stuck there with no end in sight, and he rightly judged that the former was better for the US. The fact that the Afghan government lost so much ground so quickly proves that the US failed in building a functioning state that could fend for itself. The government has been propping up this state for all these years at considerable expense, and it turns out that the structure was bound to collapse as soon as they left.
Red Cross: Israeli Shootings of Protesters Have Created \Unprecedented\ Crisis
Larison cites that Israeli forces' use of live ammunition against protesters in Gaza has created what the Red Cross describes as an \"unprecedented\" crisis because of the sheer number of severely wounded and injured people requiring treatment. Israeli forces have killed more than 130, but as outrageous as that number is it doesn't convey the extent of the grievous harm that has been done to the Palestinians protesting in Gaza. They have done this to punish unarmed people for having the temerity to protest against the appalling conditions in the enclave that Israel and Egypt have blockaded. These are flagrant violations of international law in the service of an inhumane and cruel policy of collective punishment that also deserves to be condemned.
