Universal selective transfer printing via micro-vacuum force

Transfer printing of inorganic thin-film semiconductors has attracted considerable attention to realize high-performance soft electronics on unusual substrates. However, conventional transfer technologies including elastomeric transfer printing, laser-assisted transfer, and electrostatic transfer still have challenging issues such as stamp reusability, additional adhesives, and device damage. Here, a micro-vacuum assisted selective transfer is reported to assemble micro-sized inorganic semiconductors onto unconventional substrates. 20 μm-sized micro-hole arrays are formed via laser-induced etching technology on a glass substrate. The vacuum controllable module, consisting of a laser-drilled glass and hard-polydimethylsiloxane micro-channels, enables selective modulation of micro-vacuum suction force on microchip arrays. , accomplished by pressure control during the micro-vacuum transfer procedure, facilitates the pick-up and release of thin-film semiconductors without additional adhesives and chip damage. Heterogeneous integration of III-V materials and silicon is demonstrated by assembling microchips with diverse shapes and sizes from different mother wafers on the same plane. Multiple selective transfers are implemented by independent pressure control of two separate vacuum channels with a high transfer yield of 98.06%. Finally, flexible micro light-emitting diodes and transistors with uniform electrical/optical properties are fabricated via micro-vacuum assisted selective transfer.

Perioperative Red Blood Cell Transfusion and Long-Term Mortality in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: On-Pump and Off-Pump Analysis

Background/Objectives: The impact of different coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) strategies, particularly on-pump versus off-pump techniques, on red blood cell (RBC) transfusions and their associated outcomes has not been fully investigated. This study aims to evaluate the association between RBC transfusion and survival in CABG patients, focusing on-pump strategy. Methods: Data from CABG patients were retrieved from the National Health Insurance Service database (2003 to 2019). Perioperative RBC transfusions were classified into three groups: no transfusion, RBC 1, and RBC ≥ 2 units. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality rate. Subgroup analysis assessed the impact of RBC transfusion on mortality across the conventional on-pump (CCAB) and off-pump (OPCAB) groups. Results: Among the 6150 participants who underwent CABG, 2028 underwent CCAB and 4122 underwent OPCAB. The mean age was 66.2 ± 9.7 years, with a mean follow-up of 2.9 (2.53–3.35) years. Multivariable analysis showed a significant association between transfusion of ≥2 RBC units and increased mortality risk (HR 2.34 [1.65–3.32], p < 0.001). Subgroup analysis showed a similar trend in both CCAB and OPCAB groups (p for interaction = 0.2). Transfusion of ≥2 units significantly increased mortality in OPCAB (HR 2.28 [1.55–3.37], p < 0.001) but not in CCAB (HR 2.96 [0.97–9.06], p = 0.057). OPCAB and surgery at large volume center was associated with a reduced risk of RBC transfusion (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Increased RBC transfusion is associated with higher long-term mortality in patients undergoing CABG. Based on a large cohort predominantly consisting of OPCAB patients, OPCAB is associated with decreased RBC transfusion requirements.

Advances in immunology, immuno-oncology, drug discovery and vaccine development demand improvements in the capabilities of flow cytometry to allow it to measure more protein markers per cell at multiple timepoints. However, the size of panels of fluorophore markers is limited by overlaps in fluorescence-emission spectra, and flow cytometers typically perform cell measurements at one timepoint. Here we describe multi-pass high-dimensional flow cytometry, a method leveraging cellular barcoding via microparticles emitting near-infrared laser light to track and repeatedly measure each cell using more markers and fewer colours. By using live human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, we show that the method enables the time-resolved characterization of the same cells before and after stimulation, their analysis via a 10-marker panel with minimal compensation for spectral spillover and their deep immunophenotyping via a 32-marker panel, where the same cells are analysed in 3 back-to-back cycles with 10–13 markers per cycle, reducing overall spillover and simplifying marker-panel design. Cellular barcoding in flow cytometry extends the utility of the technique for high-dimensional multi-pass single-cell analyses.
Barcoding individual cells with microparticles emitting near-infrared laser light enables the use of flow cytometry for the measurement of time-resolved single-cell dynamics with more markers and fewer colours.

An experiment was conducted in weanling pigs (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc) to evaluate the effects of dietary iron levels on growth performance, hematological status, liver mineral concentration, fecal microflora, and diarrhea incidence. One hundred and forty-four piglets (initial BW 5.96 ± 0.93kg) were randomly allotted to one of the four dietary treatments on the basis of their body weights. The basal diets for each phase (phase 1: days0 to 14; phase 2: days15 to 28) were formulated to contain minimal Fe and then supplemented with gradient levels of Fe (0, 50, 100, and 250mg/kg) from ferrous sulfate. Feces were collected on days14 and 28 and used for the analysis of microbial count and trace minerals. Eight piglets from each treatment (two piglets per pen) were bled at 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28days to determine their hematological and plasma Fe status. In addition, two piglets from each pen (eight piglets per treatment) were killed at days14 and 28 to determine liver mineral concentrations. Pigs fed supplemental 250ppm Fe showed lowest overall average daily gain (linear,

HoLEP does not affect the overall sexual function of BPH patients: a prospective study

We aimed to prospectively evaluate the influence of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) on the overall postoperative sexual function of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and to explore the relationship between sexual function and LUTS. From January 2010 to December 2011, sixty sexually active consecutive patients with BPH who underwent HoLEP were prospectively enrolled in the study. All patients filled out the Male Sexual Health Questionnaire (MSHQ) for evaluation of their overall sexual function and the International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS) for pre- and post-operative 6 months evaluation of their voiding symptoms. The LUTS and sexual function changes were statistically analyzed. The preoperative and 6 months postoperative status of the patients was compared using uroflowmetry and IPSS questionnaires. The analysis revealed significant improvements following HoLEP. Among the sub-domains of the MSHQ, postoperative sexual function, including erection, ejaculation, sexual satisfaction, anxiety or sexual desire, did not significantly change after HoLEP (P 〉 0.05), whereas satisfaction scores decreased slightly due to retrograde ejaculation in 38 patients (63.3%). Sexual satisfaction improved significantly and was correlated with the improvements of all LUTS and the quality-of-life (QoL) domains in IPSS after surgery (QoL; relative risk [RR]: -0.293; total symptoms, RR: -0.411; P 〈 0.05). The nocturia score was associated with the erectile function score (odds ratio 0.318, P = 0.029). The change in ejaculatory scores did not show significant association with IPSS scores. HoLEP did not influence overall sexual function, including erectile function. In addition, sexual satisfaction improved in proportion with the improvement of LUTS.

Endogenous neural stem cells become "activated" after neuronal injury, but the activation sequence and fate of endogenous neural stem cells in focal cerebral ischemia model are little known. We evaluated the relationships between neural stem cells and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α and vascular endothelial growth factor expression in a photothromobotic rat stroke model using immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis. We also evaluated the chronological changes of neural stem cells by 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine(BrdU) incorporation. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α expression was initially increased from 1 hour after ischemic injury, followed by vascular endothelial growth factor expression. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α immunoreactivity was detected in the ipsilateral cortical neurons of the infarct core and peri-infarct area. Vascular endothelial growth factor immunoreactivity was detected in bilateral cortex, but ipsilateral cortex staining intensity and numbers were greater than the contralateral cortex. Vascular endothelial growth factor immunoreactive cells were easily found along the peri-infarct area 12 hours after focal cerebral ischemia. The expression of nestin increased throughout the microvasculature in the ischemic core and the peri-infarct area in all experimental rats after 24 hours of ischemic injury. Nestin immunoreactivity increased in the subventricular zone during 12 hours to 3 days, and prominently increased in the ipsilateral cortex between 3–7 days. Nestin-labeled cells showed dual differentiation with microvessels near the infarct core and reactive astrocytes in the peri-infarct area. BrdU-labeled cells were increased gradually from day 1 in the ipsilateral subventricular zone and cortex, and numerous BrdU-labeled cells were observed in the peri-infarct area and non-lesioned cortex at 3 days. BrdU-labeled cells rather than neurons, were mainly co-labeled with nestin and GFAP. Early expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α and vascular endothelial growth factor after ischemia made up the microenvironment to increase the neuronal plasticity of activated endogenous neural stem cells. Moreover, neural precursor cells after large-scale cortical injury could be recruited from the cortex nearby infarct core and subventricular zone.

Microgrid is becoming an essential part of the power grid regarding reliability, economy, and environment. Renewable energies are main sources of energy in microgrids. Long-term solar generation forecasting is an important issue in microgrid planning and design from an engineering point of view. Solar generation forecasting mainly depends on solar radiation forecasting. Long-term solar radiation forecasting can also be used for estimating the degradation-rate-influenced energy potentials of photovoltaic (PV) panel. In this paper, a comparative study of different deep learning approaches is carried out for forecasting one year ahead hourly and daily solar radiation. In the proposed method, state of the art deep learning and machine learning architectures like gated recurrent units (GRUs), long short term memory (LSTM), recurrent neural network (RNN), feed forward neural network (FFNN), and support vector regression (SVR) models are compared. The proposed method uses historical solar radiation data and clear sky global horizontal irradiance (GHI). Even though all the models performed well, GRU performed relatively better compared to the other models. The proposed models are also compared with traditional state of the art methods for long-term solar radiation forecasting, i.e., random forest regression (RFR). The proposed models outperformed the traditional method, hence proving their efficiency.
