Sustainable business practices in SMEs: a retrospective insight on catalysts and hurdles
Sustainability being the buzz word, in the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and increasing climate change issues, has attracted the attention of academic and industrial researchers. Consequently, the number of research attempts on sustainability has escalated to quench the soaring research questions on various aspects of sustainability and sustainable businesses. However, the context of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) requires special attention considering the recent climate changes in the region and the presence of vast majority of exploratory industries. Therefore, this study examined the drivers and barriers in the adoption of sustainable business practices among the small and medium business houses. The study used an exploratory research design and conducted in-depth personal interviews to collect data from 33 respondents The study identified legal environment, strategic intent, stakeholder pressure and personal values as major drivers of sustainable business practice adoption. However, lack of physical, financial and human capital and insufficient support environment limits the adoption of sustainability business plans by the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The study results make significant contributions to the policy makers, prospective SMEs and non-adopters to foster the adoption of sustainability business practices by small and medium business houses.
Exploring the determinants of destination satisfaction: a multidimensional approach
Tourism, as one of the major contributors to the world GDP, offers a wide range of economic and non-economic benefits to global society. The exchange of culture and values through travel and tourism improves harmony among people, which is essential for global peace. Consequently, governments have started giving policy significance to the tourism sector and making budget allocations for its promotion in their respective countries. This increased attention on tourism promotion through policy initiatives has fostered research attempts on various aspects of tourism, making it relevant and contemporary. However, few research attempts have been made to study the precursors of destination satisfaction. Therefore, the present study aims to fill this gap by studying the determinants of destination satisfaction through a multidimensional approach. The current study aimed to examine the dimensions of destination satisfaction and its role in deciding the destination loyalty. The study reveals interesting findings that helps the administrative apparatus in the tourism industry to come up with tailor-made policies to sustain and further enhance economic growth. The study findings reveal that factors such as satisfaction with destination characteristics, destination environment, and price significantly influence destination satisfaction among tourists visiting the Maldives. These findings underscore the importance of price as a determining factor in tourists' decision to visit the Maldives, suggesting the promotion of guesthouse tourism to provide a range of price options to attract a diverse tourist base. Additionally, the study emphasizes the necessity to enhance the quality of destination characteristics and prioritize environmental conservation efforts to ensure a positive tourist experience. The results highlight the important dimensions that determine the destination satisfaction of tourists visiting Maldives.
Analysis of the Online Course Delivery Method: Students’ Perspective
Purpose: The COVID19 pandemic has affected the social and economic scene around the world which inevitably include the education sector. The increasing need for online classes and the observed differences on student perceptions were the researchers' main motivation to conduct the study. This research intends to analyze the online course delivery method for the accounting program based on Omani students' perspective wherein online learning is just newly becoming popular. Methodology: This study analyzed the aspects of online course delivery method as applied to the accounting program of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Nizwa through a quantitative descriptive research. Specifically, the study evaluated the students' perception and satisfaction with online learning and their differences across study levels and genders. Challenges and benefits from online learning were also assessed. Statistical treatments employed to test the significant differences were the T-test, ANOVA, and Post Hoc Tukey Test. Findings: Findings of the study concluded a favorable perception and satisfaction with online course delivery among Omani students and that there is a significant difference on their perceptions across study levels and gender particularly in communication and interaction with teachers and classmates as well as understanding of the materials, but no significant difference with regards to students' overall satisfaction with the online course delivery method. Post Hoc Tukey test confirmed significant difference on the responses of diploma and bachelor students but no significant differences between diploma and advanced diploma students. Implications: When opposed to traditional learning, online learning takes place in a completely different environment. It's crucial to think about how students feel about this relatively new type of course delivery, because their feelings about it can influence their satisfaction with it, which can affect their class performance. Originality: While there have been various research on online learning, only a few have been conducted in Oman during the COVID19 pandemic, with a focus on Omani accounting students' perceptions.
