Impact of inclusive leadership on employee innovative behavior: Perceived organizational support as a mediator
Despite extensive literature on leadership and its impact employee innovative behavior, few studies have explored the relationship between inclusive leadership and employee innovative behavior. To address this gap, this study aimed to investigate how inclusive leadership influenced employee innovative behavior by examining perceived organizational support (POS) as a mediator. We used multi-wave and multi-source data collected at 15 companies in China to test our theoretical model. Results revealed that inclusive leadership had significantly positive effects on POS and employee innovative behavior. Furthermore, POS was positively related to employee innovative behavior and partially mediated the relationship between inclusive leadership and employee innovative behavior. We discussed implications and limitations of this study as well as avenues for future research.

Invasive Micropapillary Carcinoma of the Breast: An Update

Context.— Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) is a distinct variant of mammary carcinoma in which tumor cells are arranged in morulelike clusters devoid of fibrovascular cores and situated within empty stromal spaces. Identification of IMPC can be achieved by the assessment of morphologic features in conjunction with the characteristic “inside-out” staining pattern of epithelial membrane antigen and sialyl Lewis X highlighted by immunohistochemical analysis. Although recognizing micropapillary architecture is often not challenging, the criteria for distinguishing between mixed and pure IMPC remain imprecise. Some mucin-producing carcinomas can also have micropapillary histology, but there is no consensus on whether these tumors are variants of IMPC or mucinous carcinomas. The molecular genetic studies demonstrate that IMPCs have distinct molecular genetic profiles, supporting the theory that they constitute distinct pathologic entities. However, genomic analyses have not identified any specific genomic aberration that may explain the distinctive morphology and clinical behavior of IMPC. Objective.— To provide an overview on the current concepts in the diagnosis and pathogenesis of IMPC of the breast, incorporating recent molecular genetic advances and prognosis-based reclassification. Data Sources.— PubMed search and the cited references were reviewed. Conclusions.— The recent evolution of prognosis-based reclassification and molecular genetic advances has enhanced our knowledge of the pathogenesis of IMPC of the breast. Additional studies might reveal consistent molecular alterations that underlie the formation of the inside-out growth pattern, and they might elucidate the molecular mechanisms responsible for the unfavorable clinical behavior of IMPC.

The diatom genus Ulnaria (Bacillariophyta) in China

This study deals with Ulnaria species found and described from two regions of China with large climate differences during the period of 2014–2022. The first region, located in the Wuling Mountains and Hunan province, has a subtropical climate and the second in Qinghai, a northwest province of China, has a highland continental climate which is characterized by a cold and long winter and warm, short summer. Previously there were nine new Ulnaria species published from the first region. This study describes 14 additional new Ulnaria taxa, nine of which were found in the first region and five of which were found in the second region. A key to the Ulnaria species that have been described from China is provided. The main morphological characteristics for 63 Ulnaria taxa are summarized in Appendices which allow the division of these Ulnaria taxa into three groups: the seven members of group one all possess both uniseriate striae and valve marginal spines, the 42 members of group two all possess uniseriate or mostly uniseriate striae but without the valve marginal spines, and the 14 members of group three all possess mostly biseriate striae and without valve marginal spines. To summarize the morphological characters of the published Ulnaria taxa and 14 taxa described in this study several conclusions for the characterization of Ulnaria are drawn: 1) each cell has two valve-appressed, long plate-like plastids; 2) living cells of many Ulnaria species often lie in girdle view on a slide because they have deep mantles and some copulae associated with either the epivalve or the hypovalve so that the cell depth is often larger than the valve width; 3) the basic structures forming a valve include sternum, virgae, and vimines/viminules; 4) the valvocopula is a closed hoop which has a similar ultrastructure in all Ulnaria taxa but differs from the other copulae in structure; 5) the configuration of girdle bands is a common condition; 6) the life history of Ulnaria can be divided into the four series of successive stages: auxospore, initial cell, pre-normal vegetative cell, and normal vegetative cell, which is very similar to the life history of Hannaea inaequidentata (Lagerstedt) Genkal and Kharitonov; 7) the closed valvocopula is proposed as a definition character for the genus Ulnaria because demonstrating all girdle bands closed is impracticable.

Baicalein attenuates cardiac hypertrophy in mice via suppressing oxidative stress and activating autophagy in cardiomyocytes

that exhibits a variety of pharmacological activities. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the protective effect of baicalein against cardiac hypertrophy in vivo and in vitro. Cardiac hypertrophy was induced in mice by injection of isoproterenol (ISO, 30 mg·kg
−1
·d
−1
) for 15 days. The mice received caudal vein injection of baicalein (25 mg/kg) on 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, and 15th days. We showed that baicalein administration significantly attenuated ISO-induced cardiac hypertrophy and restored cardiac function. The protective effect of baicalein against cardiac hypertrophy was also observed in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes treated with ISO (10 μM). In cardiomyocytes, ISO treatment markedly increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibited autophagy, which were greatly alleviated by pretreatment with baicalein (30 μM). We found that baicalein pretreatment increased the expression of catalase and the mitophagy receptor FUN14 domain containing 1 (FUNDC1) to clear ROS and promote autophagy, thus attenuated ISO-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Furthermore, we revealed that baicalein bound to the transcription factor FOXO3a directly, promoting its transcription activity, and transactivated catalase and FUNDC1. In summary, our data provide new evidence for baicalein and FOXO3a in the regulation of ISO-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Baicalein has great potential for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy.

Dissecting transcriptional heterogeneity in primary gastric adenocarcinoma by single cell RNA sequencing

ObjectiveTumour heterogeneity represents a major obstacle to accurate diagnosis and treatment in gastric adenocarcinoma (GA). Here, we report a systematic transcriptional atlas to delineate molecular and cellular heterogeneity in GA using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).DesignWe performed unbiased transcriptome-wide scRNA-seq analysis on 27 677 cells from 9 tumour and 3 non-tumour samples. Analysis results were validated using large-scale histological assays and bulk transcriptomic datasets.ResultsOur integrative analysis of tumour cells identified five cell subgroups with distinct expression profiles. A panel of differentiation-related genes reveals a high diversity of differentiation degrees within and between tumours. Low differentiation degrees can predict poor prognosis in GA. Among them, three subgroups exhibited different differentiation grade which corresponded well to histopathological features of Lauren’s subtypes. Interestingly, the other two subgroups displayed unique transcriptome features. One subgroup expressing chief-cell markers (eg, LIPF and PGC) and RNF43 with Wnt/β-catenin signalling pathway activated is consistent with the previously described entity fundic gland-type GA (chief cell-predominant, GA-FG-CCP). We further confirmed the presence of GA-FG-CCP in two public bulk datasets using transcriptomic profiles and histological images. The other subgroup specifically expressed immune-related signature genes (eg, LY6K and major histocompatibility complex class II) with the infection of Epstein-Barr virus. In addition, we also analysed non-malignant epithelium and provided molecular evidences for potential transition from gastric chief cells into MUC6 + TFF2 + spasmolytic polypeptide expressing metaplasia.ConclusionAltogether, our study offers valuable resource for deciphering gastric tumour heterogeneity, which will provide assistance for precision diagnosis and prognosis.

Programmed microalgae-gel promotes chronic wound healing in diabetes

Chronic diabetic wounds are at lifelong risk of developing diabetic foot ulcers owing to severe hypoxia, excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), a complex inflammatory microenvironment, and the potential for bacterial infection. Here we develop a programmed treatment strategy employing live Haematococcus (HEA). By modulating light intensity, HEA can be programmed to perform a variety of functions, such as antibacterial activity, oxygen supply, ROS scavenging, and immune regulation, suggesting its potential for use in programmed therapy. Under high light intensity (658 nm, 0.5 W/cm
2
), green HEA (GHEA) with efficient photothermal conversion mediate wound surface disinfection. By decreasing the light intensity (658 nm, 0.1 W/cm
2
), the photosynthetic system of GHEA can continuously produce oxygen, effectively resolving the problems of hypoxia and promoting vascular regeneration. Continuous light irradiation induces astaxanthin (AST) accumulation in HEA cells, resulting in a gradual transformation from a green to red hue (RHEA). RHEA effectively scavenges excess ROS, enhances the expression of intracellular antioxidant enzymes, and directs polarization to M2 macrophages by secreting AST vesicles via exosomes. The living HEA hydrogel can sterilize and enhance cell proliferation and migration and promote neoangiogenesis, which could improve infected diabetic wound healing in female mice.
The treatment of infected diabetic wounds faces obstacles of bacterial infection, hypoxia, hyperexpression of reactive oxygen species, and inflammation. Here, the authors address these issues by developing a programmed treatment strategy that utilizes live Haematococcus to promote healing of diabetic wounds in a comprehensive manner.

Machine learning and molecular subtype analyses provide insights into PANoptosis-associated genes in rheumatoid arthritis

Background
PANoptosis represents a newly identified form of programmed cell death that plays a significant role in the autoimmune diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by the presence of autoantibodies. Nevertheless, the specific biomarkers and molecular mechanisms responsible for the apoptotic characteristics of RA remain largely uninvestigated.
Methods
We utilized 8 synovial tissue RA datasets. We selected genes associated with PANoptosis from the GeneCard database. By employing the limma, WGCNA, and machine learning algorithms we identified core genes. We utilized consensus clustering analysis to identify distinct PANoptosis subtypes of RA. Boruta algorithm was employed to construct a PANoptosis signature score. The sensitivity of distinct subtypes to drug treatment was verified using an independent dataset.
Results
The SPP1 emerged as the significant gene, with its elevated expression in RA patients. We identified two PANoptosis RA subtypes. Cluster 1 showed high expression of Tregs, resting dendritic cells, and resting mast cells. Cluster 2 exhibited high expression of CD4 memory T cells and follicular helper T cells. Cluster 2 exhibited a higher degree of sensitivity towards immune checkpoint therapy. Employing the Boruta algorithm, a subtype score was devised for 37 PANoptosis genes, successfully discerning the subtypes (AUC = 0.794), wherein patients with elevated scores demonstrated enhanced responsiveness to Rituximab treatment.
Conclusion
Our analysis revealed that SPP1 holds potential biomarker for the diagnosis of RA. Cluster 2 exhibited enhanced sensitivity to immune checkpoint therapy, higher PANoptosis scores, and improved responsiveness to drug treatment. This study offers potential implications in the realm of diagnosis and treatment.

A photocatalytic redox cycle over a polyimide catalyst drives efficient solar-to-H2O2 conversion

Circumventing the conventional two-electron oxygen reduction pathway remains a great problem in enhancing the efficiency of H
2
O
2
photosynthesis. A promising approach to achieve outstanding photocatalytic activity involves the utilization of redox intermediates. Here, we engineer a polyimide aerogel photocatalyst with photoreductive carbonyl groups for non-sacrificial H
2
O
2
production. Under photoexcitation, carbonyl groups on the photocatalyst surface are reduced, forming an anion radical intermediate. The produced intermediate is oxidized by O
2
to produce H
2
O
2
and subsequently restores the carbonyl group. The high catalytic efficiency is ascribed to a photocatalytic redox cycle mediated by the radical anion, which not only promotes oxygen adsorption but also lowers the energy barrier of O
2
reduction reaction for H
2
O
2
generation. An apparent quantum yield of 14.28% at 420 ± 10 nm with a solar-to-chemical conversion efficiency of 0.92% is achieved. Moreover, we demonstrate that a mere 0.5 m
2
self-supported polyimide aerogel exposed to natural sunlight for 6 h yields significant H
2
O
2
production of 34.3 mmol m
−2
.
The photocatalytic redox cycle mediated by the anion radical intermediate promotes oxygen adsorption and lowers the energy barrier of O2 reduction reaction, thereby significantly improving the efficiency of H2O2 photosynthesis.
