Progressive failure mechanisms and dynamic load redistribution in asymmetric excavation with partial bracing collapse
2025
Current research on the progressive failure mechanisms and dynamic load transfer paths induced by localized failure in asymmetrical excavation support systems re-mains insufficient. This study, based on the “component removal method,” designs a model test for local failure of internal supports in an asymmetrically excavated foundation pit. Through refined three-dimensional numerical modeling, multi-condition comparative validation is conducted, revealing the coordinated evolution mechanism of deformation and internal force response following local support failure. Key findings demonstrate: post-failure reduction in lateral stiffness of supporting slabs induces inward dis-placements, amplifying surrounding soil settlement, with significantly greater dis-placement increments observed in deeper excavation zones compared to shallower regions; Axial force redistribution follows a proximity amplification and distal attenuation pattern, with adjacent struts experiencing force increases to 1.48 times after single strut failure, while distant struts show reductions to 0.93 times; Bending moments increase in remote support structures due to soil arching effects, reaching up to 427 N·m on the shallow side, whereas near-field structures exhibit moment reductions attributed to pronounced unloading effects from significant slab displacement; The secondary retaining wall exhibits cantilever-like behavior, with bending moments rising to 450 N·m post-failure.

Recent Advances and Challenges in Hybrid Supercapacitors Based on Metal Oxides and Carbons
2025
Hybrid supercapacitors (HSCs) are a novel type of supercapacitor composed of battery-type electrodes and capacitor-type electrodes, which have directly transformed the global energy landscape. On one hand, they can replace clean energy sources that are heavily dependent on climatic conditions in specific regions, thereby enhancing the effective utilization of intermittent energy sources. On the other hand, with their high energy density akin to secondary batteries and the long lifespan and high power density characteristic of supercapacitors, they perfectly bridge the gap between secondary batteries and supercapacitors. This article reviews the fundamental energy storage principles of HSCs and highlights the latest optimization strategies for HSCs based on transition metal oxides (TMOs) and carbon over the past two years. These strategies include heteroatom doping, heterostructured materials, nanocomposites, and metal–organic frameworks (MOF). Finally, prospects on future research directions of HSCs are discussed.

Intra-abdominal aggressive fibromatosis: a single-center case series of 12 patients focusing on surgical management and clinicopathological features
2026
Background
Intra-abdominal aggressive fibromatosis (AF) is a rare disease with invasive growth and local recurrence. However, few studies have reported the clinical and pathological features of intra-abdominal AF. The aim of this study is to systematically elucidate the clinical characteristics, imaging manifestations, treatment and pathological features of intra-abdominal AF.
Methods
A total of 12 patients with intra-abdominal AF diagnosed in Xijing Hospital, First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University from April 2021 to September 2024 were included. All the specimens underwent routine staining and immunohistochemical analysis. The study was approved by the Ethics Review Committee of Xijing hospital.
Results
A total of 12 patients with intra-abdominal AF were enrolled (median age: 33 years; range: 16–59 years). Tumors were located in the retroperitoneum (
n
= 8) or small intestinal mesentery (
n
= 4), with a mean maximum diameter of 9 cm (6–30 cm). Computed tomography typically showed irregular soft tissue masses with heterogeneous density and enhancement. All patients underwent R0 resection; notably, 10 (83.3%) required combined organ resection due to involvement of adjacent organs or major vessels. Postoperatively, four patients (33.3%) developed mild, transient complications, all of which resolved with conservative management during the same hospitalization. No adjuvant therapy was administered. Immunohistochemistry revealed nuclear β-catenin positivity in all 12 cases (100%), SMA positivity in seven (58.3%), Vimentin positivity in four (33.3%), and a Ki-67 index of 2–20%. CD117 was negative in all cases. At a median follow-up of 23 months (7–48 months), no recurrence or metastasis was observed.
Conclusion
Intra-abdominal AF is a rare disease with a high reported local recurrence rate. Early surgery can achieve complete removal in experienced medical centers, and complication rates are acceptable, with good short-term prognosis.

Estimating Monthly Surface Air Temperature Using MODIS LST Data and an Artificial Neural Network in the Loess Plateau, China
2023
Air temperature (Ta) datasets with high spatial and temporal resolutions are needed in a wide range of applications, such as hydrology, ecology, agriculture, and climate change studies. Nonetheless, the density of weather station networks is insufficient, especially in sparsely populated regions, greatly limiting the accuracy of estimates of spatially distributed Ta. Due to their continuous spatial coverage, remotely sensed land surface temperature (LST) data provide the possibility of exploring spatial estimates of Ta. However, because of the complex interaction of land and climate, retrieval of Ta from the LST is still far from straightforward. The estimation accuracy varies greatly depending on the model, particularly for maximum Ta. This study estimated monthly average daily minimum temperature (Tmin), average daily maximum temperature (Tmax) and average daily mean temperature (Tmean) over the Loess Plateau in China based on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) LST data (MYD11A2) and some auxiliary data using an artificial neural network (ANN) model. The data from 2003 to 2010 were used to train the ANN models, while 2011 to 2012 weather station temperatures were used to test the trained model. The results showed that the nighttime LST and mean LST provide good estimates of Tmin and Tmean, with root mean square errors (
RMSE
s) of 1.04°C and 1.01°C, respectively. Moreover, the best
RMSE
of Tmax estimation was 1.27°C. Compared with the other two published Ta gridded datasets, the produced 1 km × 1 km dataset accurately captured both the temporal and spatial patterns of Ta. The
RMSE
of Tmin estimation was more sensitive to elevation, while that of Tmax was more sensitive to month. Except for land cover type as the input variable, which reduced the
RMSE
by approximately 0.01°C, the other vegetation-related variables did not improve the performance of the model. The results of this study indicated that ANN, a type of machine learning method, is effective for long-term and large-scale Ta estimation.

Studies of High Molybdenum-Induced Copper Deprivation in P. przewalskii on the Qinghai Lake Pasture in China
2021
The Przewalski’s Gazelles (P. przewalskii) are affected by disorders that are characterized by deprived appetites, pica, emaciation and dyskinesia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of high molybdenum (Mo) in forage leading to copper (Cu) deprivation. The mineral contents in forage, soil, and samples of hair and blood from affected ranges were compared to healthy pasture. Blood parameters were also determined. Our results showed that the mean content of Mo in forage and soil in studied pasture was 5.17 and 4.17 μg/g, respectively. The Cu to Mo ratio in forage from affected and healthy areas was 1.26 and 5.89 μg/g, respectively. The Cu concentrations in hair and blood from gazelles in affected pasture were extremely lower (p < 0.01) than those in unaffected animals. The Mo contents in hair were higher (p < 0.01) than those in unaffected gazelles. The levels of Hb, RBC, PCV, MCV, and MCH in unaffected gazelles were significantly lower (p < 0.01) than those in unaffected gazelles. The levels of TP, ALB and GLB in blood were significantly lower (p < 0.01) than those in unaffected gazelles, while the levels of AST, LDH, CPK and ALP in serum were significantly higher (p < 0.01) than those in unaffected gazelles. The activities in serum T-AOC, SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT in affected gazelles were extremely lower (p < 0.01) than those in unaffected gazelles, while MDA was significantly higher (p < 0.01) than that in unaffected gazelles. Supplementation in copper sulphate (CuSO4) has prevented and cured this disorder. In summary, high molybdenum in feed and soil may lead to secondary Cu deficiency in gazelles, which can be alleviated by supplement of copper sulfate.

Nomogram Model to Predict Acute Kidney Injury in Hospitalized Patients with Heart Failure
2024
Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of acute heart failure (HF) that can prolong hospitalization time and worsen the prognosis. The objectives of this research were to ascertain independent risk factors of AKI in hospitalized HF patients and validate a nomogram risk prediction model established using those factors. Methods: Finally, 967 patients hospitalized for HF were included. Patients were randomly assigned to the training set (n = 677) or test set (n = 290). Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was performed for variable selection, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to search for independent predictors of AKI in hospitalized HF patients. A nomogram prediction model was then developed based on the final identified predictors. The performance of the nomogram was assessed in terms of discriminability, as determined by the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC), and predictive accuracy, as determined by calibration plots. Results: The incidence of AKI in our cohort was 19%. After initial LASSO variable selection, multivariate logistic regression revealed that age, pneumonia, D-dimer, and albumin were independently associated with AKI in hospitalized HF patients. The nomogram prediction model based on these independent predictors had AUCs of 0.760 and 0.744 in the training and test sets, respectively. The calibration plots indicate a strong concordance between the estimated AKI probabilities and the observed probabilities. Conclusions: A nomogram prediction model based on pneumonia, age, D-dimer, and albumin can help clinicians predict the risk of AKI in HF patients with moderate discriminability.

Association between Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and New-Onset In-Hospital Heart Failure in Patients with STEMI after Primary PCI
2024
Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a proven, reliable inflammatory marker of the atherosclerotic process. Additionally, inflammation is one of the most important mechanisms of heart failure (HF) after myocardial infarction (MI). However, it is not clear whether SII is related to the risk of in-hospital HF in patients with MI. Thus, we aimed to explore the relationship between SII and the risk of new-onset in-hospital HF in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Methods: A total of 5586 patients with STEMI underwent pPCI at seven clinical sites in China from January 2015 to August 2021. The patients were divided into two groups based on the SII values. The association between SII and new-onset in-hospital HF in STEMI patients was assessed using logistic regression analysis. Results: Ultimately, 3808 STEMI patients with Killip class I who were treated with pPCI were included. All included patients were divided into two groups based on the calculated SII (Q1 SII: <1707.31 (×109/L), Q2 SII: ≥1707.31 (×109/L)). After unadjusted and multivariate adjustment for age, gender, vital signs, smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, etc., the odds ratio (OR) of the in-hospital HF risk in Q2 was 1.378–1.427 times the Q1 in the calibration Models 1 to 5. Subgroup analysis showed that the OR of Q2 was 1.505-fold higher of Q1 in males and 1.525-fold in older people (≥60 years). Sensitivity analysis showed that after excluding patients who had previously experienced HF, MI, or underwent PCI, elevated SII was still associated with a significant increase in the risk of in-hospital HF. Conclusions: Elevated SII is associated with an increased risk of in-hospital HF in STEMI patients treated with pPCI, particularly in male and older patients. Clinical Trial Registration: The Chinese STEMI pPCI Registry was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04996901, https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT04996901?cond=NCT04996901&rank=1).

Construction of ternary PEG200-based DESs lubrication systems via tailoring tribo-chemistry
2024
Designing novel lubricants with easily customized structures, devisable compositions, and simple and economic synthesis over traditional lubricants is critical to fulfilling complex applications, prolonging machine lifetime, and saving energy. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs), which show tunable composition, adjustable structure, easy fabrication, and environmental friendliness, are promising candidates for variable and complicated lubricants applications. To promote the use of DESs as lubricants, a series of PEG200-based DESs with active heteroatoms were fabricated to tailor the tribological performance via tribo-chemistry. Thereinto, PEG200/boric acid (BA) DES shows optimal lubrication performance by forming tribo-chemical reaction film composited of B

, iron oxides, and FeOOH, and PEG200/thiourea (TU) DES displays abrasive wear-reducing property by producing FeS tribo-chemical film. Given the excellent abrasive wear-resistance of PEG200/TU DES and friction reduction of PEG200/BA DES, ternary PEG200/BA/TU DESs, composited of PEG200/TU DES and PEG200/BA DES, are first exploited. The ternary DESs possess superior wettability and thermal stability, which render them potential lubricants. Tribological tests of the ternary DESs demonstrate that synergistic lubrication is achieved by forming a transfer film consisting of Fe

Intestinal flora composition and fecal metabolic phenotype in elderly patients with sleep disorders combined with type 2 diabetes
2024
Objectives This study aimed to determine whether type 2 diabetes (T2D) is an independent risk factor for sleep disorders in the elderly and explore the possible intestinal flora factors of sleep disorders combined with T2D in this population. Methods All hospitalized patients with sleep disorders aged ≥65 years between June and November 2023 were retrospectively analyzed, and they were divided into a sleep disorder group (n = 134) and a control group (n = 109). The logistic regression method was utilized to clarify the causal relationship between T2D and sleep disorders. For stool analyses, 42 patients were randomly extracted, which included the control group (n = 14), diabetes group (n = 14), and elderly patients with sleep disorders combined with the T2D group (ESdD) (n = 14). The composition feature of intestinal flora and metabolomics in the ESdD group was described through high‐throughput 16S rDNA sequencing and nontargeted analysis based on liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. Results Gender, body mass index (BMI), T2D, intestinal discomfort, and anxiety depression were independent risk factors for sleep disorders in the elderly. Notably, older individuals with T2D were 3.3 times more likely to experience sleep disorders than normal individuals. Compared with the control group, the ESdD group had decreased relative abundance of Barnesiella and Marvinbryantia, with 47 metabolites upregulated and 53 metabolites downregulated. The ESdD group showed a decrease in Lachnospiraceae_(U)CG₀10, with 62 metabolites upregulated and 43 metabolites downregulated, compared with the diabetes group. Conclusions Diabetes is an independent risk factor for sleep disorders in the elderly patients. Variations in intestinal flora and metabolism significantly influence the onset and progression of the ESdD group. We first clarify that diabetes is the most significant independent risk factor for elderly sleep disorders. The research findings underscore the strong association between the occurrence of sleep disorders in elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes and alterations in intestinal flora and fecal metabolites.

Combined Functional and Structural Imaging of White Matter Reveals Brain Connectivity Alterations in Fibromyalgia Patients
2025
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a prevalent central chronic pain condition of unknown pathophysiology. White matter (WM) plays a crucial role in brain signal transmission, and WM structural abnormalities have been reported in FMS. However, functional WM changes in FMS patients have not been investigated. This study aimed to investigate whether functional neural changes in WM accompany structural changes observed in FMS.
The study included 43 FMS patients and 43 healthy controls. Structural and functional analyses of WM were assessed using fractional anisotropy (FA) and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), respectively, to explore WM alterations in FMS patients.
Structural analysis revealed altered FA values in the left corticospinal tract (CST), right cingulate/hippocampus, right fornix/stria terminalis (FX/ST), superior occipitofrontal fasciculus (SOFF), right superior corona radiata (SCR), right posterior corona radiata (PCR), sagittal stratum, and left medial lemniscus (ML) in FMS patients. Some regions showing structural changes also showed changes in resting-state functional activation. Functional analysis showed that FMS patients have reduced ALFF values in the left CST, left ML, right PCR, right cingulate/hippocampus, and right FX/ST. Furthermore, the degree of ALFF reduction in the right cingulate/hippocampus and left ML was positively correlated with anxiety, depression, and pain severity scores.
This study provides a preliminary exploration of the mechanisms underlying FMS in terms of WM functional signals. The observed reduction in WM functional activation offers novel insights into the pathophysiology of FMS and highlights potential targets for WM-focused therapeutic strategies.
