Establishing the first hidden-charm pentaquark with strangeness
2021
We study the Pcs(4459)0 recently observed by LHCb using the method of QCD sum rules. Our results support its interpretation as the D¯∗Ξc hadronic molecular state of either JP=1/2- or 3/2-. Within the hadronic molecular picture, the three LHCb experiments observing Pc and Pcs states (Aaij et al., Phys Rev Lett 115:072001, 2015; Aaij et al., Phys Rev Lett 122:222001, 2019; Aaij et al., arXiv:2012.10380 [hep-ex], 2012) can be well understood as a whole. This strongly supports the existence of hadronic molecules, whose studies can significantly improve our understanding on the construction of the subatomic world. To verify this picture, we propose to further investigate the Pcs(4459)0 to examine whether it can be separated into two states, and to search for the D¯Ξc molecular state of JP=1/2-.

Biomimetic Liposomal Nanoplatinum for Targeted Cancer Chemophototherapy
2021
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer is limited by tumor hypoxia. Platinum nanoparticles (nano‐Pt) as a catalase‐like nanoenzyme can enhance PDT through catalytic oxygen supply. However, the cytotoxic activity of nano‐Pt is not comprehensively considered in the existing methods to exert their multifunctional antitumor effects. Here, nano‐Pt are loaded into liposomes via reverse phase evaporation. The clinical photosensitizer verteporfin (VP) is loaded in the lipid bilayer to confer PDT activity. Murine macrophage cell membranes are hybridized into the liposomal membrane to confer biomimetic and targeting features. The resulting liposomal system, termed “nano‐Pt/VP@MLipo,” is investigated for chemophototherapy in vitro and in vivo in mouse tumor models. At the tumor site, oxygen produced by nano‐Pt catalyzation improves the VP‐mediated PDT, which in turn triggers the release of nano‐Pt via membrane permeabilization. The ultrasmall 3–5 nm nano‐Pt enables better penetration in tumors, which is also facilitated by the generated oxygen gas, for enhanced chemotherapy. Chemophototherapy with a single injection of nano‐Pt/VP@MLipo and light irradiation inhibits the growth of aggressive 4T1 tumors and their lung metastasis, and prolongs animal survival without overt toxicity. The biomimetic liposomal nano‐Pt (nano‐Pt/VP@MLipo) targets the tumor sites, where oxygen produced by nano‐Pt catalyzation enhances the verteporfin (VP)‐mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT). PDT in turn permeabilizes the liposome membrane for efficient nano‐Pt release. These ultrasmall particles (3–5 nm) achieve penetration in deeper tumor tissue, which is also facilitated by the generated oxygen gas, for enhanced chemotherapy.

Recently LHCb declared a new structure X(6900) in the final state di-J/ψ which is popularly regarded as a cc-c¯c¯ tetraquark state. Within the Bethe–Salpeter (B–S) framework we study the possible cc-c¯c¯ bound states and the interaction between diquark (cc) and antidiquark (c¯c¯). In this work cc (c¯c¯) is treated as a color anti-triplet (triplet) axial-vector so the quantum numbers of cc-c¯c¯ bound state are 0+, 1+ and 2+. Learning from the interaction in meson case and using the effective coupling we suggest the interaction kernel for the diquark and antidiquark system. Then we deduce the B–S equations for different quantum numbers. Solving these equations numerically we find the spectra of some excited states can be close to the mass of X(6900) when we assign appropriate values for parameter κ introduced in the interaction (kernel). We also briefly calculate the spectra of bb-b¯b¯ bound states. Future measurement of bb-b¯b¯ state will help us to determine the exact form of effective interaction.

The Role of Nature-Based Solutions for Improving Environmental Quality, Health and Well-Being
2021
Nature-based solutions (NbS) have been positioned and implemented in urban areas as solutions for enhancing urban resilience in the face of a wide range of urban challenges. However, there is a lack of recommendations of optimal NbS and appropriate typologies fitting to different contexts and urban design. The analytical frameworks for NbS implementation and impact evaluation, that integrate NbS into local policy frameworks, socio-economic transition pathways, and spatial planning, remain fragmented. In this article, the NbS concept and its related terminologies are first discussed. Second, the types of NbS implemented in Europe are reviewed and their benefits over time are explored, prior to categorizing them and highlighting the key methods, criteria, and indicators to identify and assess the NbS’s impacts, co-benefits, and trade-offs. The latter involved a review of the websites of 52 projects and some relevant publications funded by EU Research and Innovation programs and other relevant publications. The results show that there is a shared understanding that the NbS concept encompasses benefits of restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems, carbon neutrality, improved environmental quality, health and well-being, and evidence for such benefits. This study also shows that most NbS-related projects and activities in Europe use hybrid approaches, with NbS typically developed, tested, or implemented to target specific types of environmental–social–economic challenges. The results of this study indicate that NbS as a holistic concept would be beneficial in the context of climate action and sustainable solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience and adaptive capacity within cities. As such, this article provides a snapshot of the role of NbS in urban sustainability development, a guide to the state-of-the-art, and key messages and recommendations of this rapidly emerging and evolving field.

Drying Stress and Strain of Wood: A Review
2021
Wood drying stress causes various drying defects, which result from the wood microstructure and the transfer of heat and mass during the drying. It is the fundamental way to solve the problem of defects to clarify the law and mechanism of wood stress and strain development during drying. In this paper, based on the defects of wood drying, the theory and experimental testing methods of drying stress and strain were summarized. Meanwhile, artificial neural networks (ANN) and their application in the wood drying field were also investigated. The traditional prong and slicing methods were used practically in the research and industry of wood drying, but the stress changes in-process cannot be trapped. The technologies of image analysis and near-infrared spectroscopy provide a new opportunity for the detection of drying stress and strain. Hence, future interest should be attached to the combination of the theory of heat and mass transfer and their coupling during drying with the theory of microscopic cell wall mechanics and macroscopic drying. A more complete image acquisition and analysis system should be developed to realize the real-time monitoring of drying strain and cracking, practically. A more feasible and reasonable prediction model of wood drying stress and strain should be established to achieve the accuracy of the prediction.

Nanosensitizer-mediated augmentation of sonodynamic therapy efficacy and antitumor immunity
The dense stroma of desmoplastic tumor limits nanotherapeutic penetration and hampers the antitumor immune response. Here, we report a denaturation-and-penetration strategy and the use of tin monosulfide nanoparticles (SnSNPs) as nano-sonosensitizers that can overcome the stromal barrier for the management of desmoplastic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). SnSNPs possess a narrow bandgap (1.18 eV), allowing for efficient electron (e

)-hole (h

) pair separation to generate reactive oxygen species under US activation. More importantly, SnSNPs display mild photothermal properties that can in situ denature tumor collagen and facilitate deep penetration into the tumor mass upon near-infrared irradiation. This approach significantly enhances sonodynamic therapy (SDT) by SnSNPs and boosts antitumor immunity. In mouse models of malignant TNBC and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the combination of robust SDT and enhanced cytotoxic T lymphocyte infiltration achieves remarkable anti-tumor efficacy. This study presents an innovative approach to enhance SDT and antitumor immunity using the denaturation-and-penetration strategy, offering a potential combined sono-immunotherapy approach for the cancer nanomedicine field.

In this paper, we study the near horizon symmetry and gravitational charges in the Newman-Penrose formalism. In particular we investigate the effect from topological terms. We find that the Pontryagin term and Gauss-Bonnet term have significant influence on the near horizon charges and bring interesting novel features. We show that the gravitational charge derived from a general class of topological terms including the Pontryagin term and Gauss-Bonnet term can be obtained from the ambiguities of the symplectic potential.

Effects of dietary stachyose levels on caecal skatole concentration, hepatic cytochrome P450 mRNA expressions and enzymatic activities in broilers
2020
Effects of dietary supplemental stachyose on caecal skatole concentration, hepatic cytochrome P450 (CYP450, CYP) mRNA expressions and enzymatic activities in broilers were evaluated. Arbor Acre commercial mixed male and female chicks were assigned randomly into six treatments. The positive control (PC) diet was based on maize–soyabean meal, and the negative control (NC) diet was based on maize–non-soyabean meal. The NC diet was then supplemented with 4, 5, 6 and 7 g/kg stachyose to create experimental diets, named S-4, S-5, S-6 and S-7, respectively. Each diet was fed to six replicates of ten birds from days 1 to 49. On day 49, the caecal skatole concentrations in the PC, S-4, S-5, S-6 and S-7 groups were lower than those in the NC group by 42·28, 23·68, 46·09, 15·31 and 45·14 % (P < 0·01), respectively. The lowest pH value was observed in the S-5 group (P < 0·05). The stachyose-fed groups of broilers had higher caecal acetate and propionate levels compared with control groups, and propionate levels in the S-6 and S-7 groups were higher than those in the S-4 and S-5 groups (P < 0·001). The highest CYP3A4 expression was found in the S-7 group (P < 0·05), but this was not different from PC, S-4, S-5 and S-6 treatments. There was no significant difference in CYP450 (1A2, 2D6 and 3A4) enzymatic activities among the groups (P > 0·05). In conclusion, caecal skatole levels can be influenced by dietary stachyose levels, and 5 g/kg of stachyose in the diet was suggested.

Hemocyte-Mediated Phagocytosis in Crustaceans
2020
Phagocytosis is an ancient, highly conserved process in all multicellular organisms, through which the host can protect itself against invading microorganisms and environmental particles, as well as remove self-apoptotic cells/cell debris to maintain tissue homeostasis. In crustacean, phagocytosis by hemocyte has also been well-recognized as a crucial defense mechanism for the host against infectious agents such as bacteria and viruses. In this review, we summarized the current knowledge of hemocyte-mediated phagocytosis, in particular focusing on the related receptors for recognition and internalization of pathogens as well as the downstream signal pathways and intracellular regulators involved in the process of hemocyte phagocytosis. We attempted to gain a deeper understanding of the phagocytic mechanism of different hemocytes and their contribution to the host defense immunity in crustaceans.
