We also systematically study the decoherence process of the quantum memory by using quantum process tomography and analyze the results by applying recently developed resource theories of quantum memory and coherence. Our experimental demonstration will accelerate practical applications of quantum memories for various quantum information processing, especially in the noisy-intermediate-scale quantum regime.

A clinical analysis and literature review of eleven cases with primary pulmonary angiosarcoma

Objective
The aim of this study is to explore the clinicopathological features, radiographic manifestations, treatment options, and prognosis of primary pulmonary angiosarcoma (PPAS).
Method
We summarized and analyzed the clinical data of 11 patients with primary pulmonary angiosarcoma treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University between January 2018 and January 2024. A retrospective analysis was conducted in conjunction with a review of the relevant literature.
Results
Among the 11 cases, the primary symptoms were nonspecific respiratory issues, with chest pain, cough, and shortness of breath being the most common. Initial diagnosis was correct in only 2 cases, while the remaining 9 cases were misdiagnosed as other conditions, such as lung nodules, infections, or pulmonary embolism. All patients were ultimately diagnosed via pathology, with CD31 and CD34 showing a high positivity rate of 60%. Of the 11 patients, 9 have died, and 2 remain alive. The average survival period was 13.2 months.Based on the number of lesions, PPAS was categorized into three types: solitary, multiple, and invasive pulmonary artery. The average survival period for the solitary type (2 cases) was 15.5 months, for the multiple type (5 cases) was 6.6 months, and for the pulmonary artery type (4 cases) was 20.5 months. Among the 3 patients who underwent surgery, the median overall survival (OS) was 23.0 months, whereas for the 8 non-surgical patients, the median OS was 9.7 months.
Conclusion
Primary pulmonary angiosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive vascular malignancy characterized by nonspecific clinical symptoms and a tendency for metastasis and pulmonary artery embolism. Currently, no effective treatment exists, and the overall prognosis is poor.

UBC9 deficiency enhances immunostimulatory macrophage activation and subsequent antitumor T cell response in prostate cancer

The role of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), along with the regulatory mechanisms underlying distinct macrophage activation states, remains poorly understood in prostate cancer (PCa). Herein, we report that PCa growth in mice with macrophage-specific Ubc9 deficiency is substantially suppressed compared with that in wild-type littermates, an effect partially ascribed to the augmented CD8+ T cell response. Biochemical and molecular analyses revealed that signal transducer and activator of transcription 4 (STAT4) is a crucial UBC9-mediated SUMOylation target, with lysine residue 350 (K350) as the major modification site. Site-directed mutation of STAT4 (K350R) enhanced its nuclear translocation and stability, thereby facilitating the proinflammatory activation of macrophages. Importantly, administration of the UBC9 inhibitor 2-D08 promoted the antitumor effect of TAMs and increased the expression of PD-1 on CD8+ T cells, supporting a synergistic antitumor efficacy once it combined with the immune checkpoint blockade therapy. Together, our results demonstrate that ablation of UBC9 could reverse the immunosuppressive phenotype of TAMs by promoting STAT4-mediated macrophage activation and macrophage-CD8+ T cell crosstalk, which provides valuable insights to halt the pathogenic process of tumorigenesis.

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. Although biologics have markedly improved psoriasis symptoms, they may occasionally trigger paradoxical inflammatory reactions, particularly with IL-17A or TNF-α inhibitors. However, paradoxical inflammatory reactions associated with the IL-23 inhibitor guselkumab is exceptionally rare. We describe the case of a 70-year-old male with a 5-year history of psoriasis who had previously received tofacitinib for one year without achieving complete clearance. Following the initiation of guselkumab, the patient developed paradoxical eczema. Subsequent treatment with cyclosporine and the TYK2 inhibitor deucravacitinib proved ineffective. Ultimately, combination therapy with the JAK1 inhibitor upadacitinib and the PDE4 inhibitor apremilast achieved satisfactory control of both the paradoxical eczema and the underlying psoriatic lesions. This case highlights that upadacitinib used in combination with apremilast can effectively reverse paradoxical inflammatory reactions while sustaining psoriasis control. This dual-targeting strategy offers a novel therapeutic option for biologic-induced paradoxical reactions, and its broad-spectrum anti-inflammatory properties and potential synergistic effects warrant further clinical investigation.

Snapshotting quantum dynamics at multiple time points

Measurement-induced state disturbance is a major challenge in obtaining quantum statistics at multiple time points. We propose a method to extract dynamic information from a quantum system at intermediate time points, namely snapshotting quantum dynamics. To this end, we apply classical post-processing after performing the ancilla-assisted measurements to cancel out the impact of the measurements at each time point. Based on this, we reconstruct a multi-time quasi-probability distribution (QPD) that correctly recovers the probability distributions at the respective time points. Our approach can also be applied to simultaneously extract exponentially many correlation functions with various time-orderings. We provide a proof-of-principle experimental demonstration of the proposed protocol using a dual-species trapped-ion system by employing

ions as the system and the ancilla, respectively. Multi-time measurements are performed by repeated initialization and detection of the ancilla state without directly measuring the system state. The two- and three-time QPDs and correlation functions are reconstructed reliably from the experiment, negativity and complex values in the QPDs clearly indicate a contribution of the quantum coherence throughout dynamics.
Sequential incompatible measurements on a quantum state would need a full multi-time generalisation of quasiprobability in order to be adequately described. Here, the authors propose such a framework, and test it on a trapped-ion system measuring up to three-time correlation functions.

Metabolomics coupled with pathway analysis characterizes metabolic changes in response to BDE-3 induced reproductive toxicity in mice

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) may affect male reproductive function. 4-bromodiphenyl ether (BDE-3), the photodegradation products of higher brominated PBDEs, is the most fundamental mono-BDE in environment but is less studied. The purpose of this study was to investigate the reproductive toxicity induced by BDE-3 and explore the mechanism by metabolomics approach. In this study, mice were treated intragastrically with BDE-3 for consecutive six weeks at the dosages of 0.0015, 1.5, 10 and 30 mg/kg. The reproductive toxicity was evaluated by sperm analysis and histopathology examinations. UPLC-Q-TOF/MS was applied to profile the metabolites of testis tissue, urine and serum samples in the control and BDE-3 treated mice. Results showed the sperm count was dose-dependently decreased and percentage of abnormal sperms increased by the treatment of BDE-3. Histopathology examination also revealed changes in seminiferous tubules and epididymides in BDE-3 treated mice. Metabolomics analysis revealed that different BDE-3 groups showed metabolic disturbances to varying degrees. We identified 76, 38 and 31 differential metabolites in testis tissue, urine and serum respectively. Pathway analysis revealed several pathways including Tyrosine metabolism, Purine metabolism and Riboflavin metabolism, which may give a possible explanation for the toxic mechanism of BDE-3. This study indicates that UHPLC-Q-TOFMS-based metabolomics approach provided a better understanding of PBDEs-induced toxicity dynamically.

Macrolides such as erythromycin are the empirical treatment of Bordetella pertussis infections. China has experienced an increase in erythromycin-resistant B. pertussis isolates since they were first reported in 2013. Here, we undertook a genomic study on Chinese B. pertussis isolates from 2012 to 2015 to elucidate the origins and phylogenetic relationships of erythromycin-resistant B. pertussis isolates in China. A total of 167 Chinese B. pertussis isolates were used for antibiotic sensitivity testing and multiple locus variable-number tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis (MLVA). All except four isolates were erythromycin-resistant and of the four erythromycin-sensitive isolates, three were non-ptxP1. MLVA types (MT), MT55, MT104 and MT195 were the predominant types. Fifty of those isolates were used for whole genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis revealed three independent erythromycin-resistant lineages and all resistant isolates carried a mutation in the 23S rRNA gene. A novel fhaB3 allele was found uniquely in Chinese ptxP1 isolates and these Chinese ptxP1-ptxA1-fhaB3 had a 5-fold higher mutation rate than the global ptxP1-ptxA1 B. pertussis population. Our results suggest that the evolution of Chinese B. pertussis is likely to be driven by selection pressure from both vaccination and antibiotics. The emergence of the new non-vaccine fhaB3 allele in Chinese B. pertussis population may be a result of selection from vaccination, whereas the expansion of ptxP1-fhaB3 lineages was most likely to be the result of selection pressure from antibiotics. Further monitoring of B. pertussis in China is required to better understand the evolution of the pathogen.

Influence of Rubber Powder Content on the Rheological Properties of Rubber Asphalt

Rubber asphalt has excellent durability and can maintain excellent performance under harsh service conditions. In order to further promote the application of rubber asphalt, the dynamic rheological shear test was used to test the complex shear modulus G *, rutting factor G */sin δ, fatigue dissipation factor G * sin δ of rubber asphalt under different test temperatures and loading frequencies. The conclusions are as follows: (1) For the dynamic rheological properties of rubber asphalt, the content of rubber powder is an important factor. When the rubber powder content is 30%, the rheological properties of rubber asphalt are optimal. (2) For the rutting factor and fatigue dissipation factor of rubber asphalt, temperature and frequency are the primary influencing factors. The rutting factor and fatigue dissipation factor of rubber asphalt samples in each group decrease with increasing temperature and increases with increasing frequency. (3) Among the three types of rubber powder-mixed rubber asphalt, the 30% rubber asphalt has higher high-temperature performance and fatigue performance, which can meet the performance requirements of the pavement surface layer.

Abundant geographical divergence of Clostridioides difficile infection in China: a prospective multicenter cross-sectional study

Clostridioides difficile
is the predominant pathogen in hospital-acquired infections and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Dedicated networks and annual reports for
C. difficile
surveillance have been established in Europe and North America, however the extensive investigation on the prevalence of
C. difficile
infection (CDI) in China is limited. In this study, 1528 patients with diarrhea were recruited from seven geographically representative regions of China between July 2021 and July 2022. The positivity rate of toxigenic
C. difficile
using real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR test of feces was 10.2% (156/1528), and 125 (8.2%, 125/1528) strains were successfully isolated. The isolates from different geographical areas had divergent characteristics after multilocus sequence typing, toxin gene profiling, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. No isolate from clade 2 were found, and clade 1 was still the main clade for these clinical isolates. Interestingly, clade 4, especially ST37, previously known as the characteristic type of China, showed a strong geographical divergence. Clade 3, although rare in China, has been detected in Hainan and Sichuan provinces. Most
C. difficile
isolates (76.8%, 96/125) were toxigenic. Clindamycin, erythromycin, and moxifloxacin were the top three antibiotics to which resistance was observed, with resistance rates of 81.3%, 63.6%, and 24.0%, respectively. Furthermore, 34 (27.2%, 34/125) multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains were identified. All the strains were sensitive to metronidazole, vancomycin, and meropenem. The genotype of
C. difficile
varies greatly among the different geographical regions in China, and new types are constantly emerging. Therefore, comprehensive, longitudinal, and standardized surveillance of
C. difficile
infections is needed in China, covering typical geographical areas.

Multimodal therapy successfully treats methemoglobinemia caused by emamectin benzoate and indoxacarb poisoning: a case report

Poisoning from emamectin benzoate combined with indoxacarb can cause neurological symptoms and methemoglobinemia, which may present clinically as confusion, cyanosis, dyspnea, and limb convulsions. In such cases, naloxone can be used to alleviate neurological symptoms, while high-dose vitamin C and low-concentration methylene blue can reduce methemoglobin (MetHb) to improve hypoxic symptoms. Hemoperfusion and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) can rapidly remove exogenous and endogenous toxins from the blood, effectively protecting against organ damage to the heart, liver, and kidneys caused by emamectin benzoate poisoning.
