Research on object detection and recognition in remote sensing images based on YOLOv11

This study applies the YOLOv11 model to train and detect ground object targets in high-resolution remote sensing images, aiming to evaluate its potential in enhancing detection accuracy and efficiency. The model was trained on 70,389 samples across 20 target categories. After 496 training epochs, the loss functions (Box_Loss, Cls_Loss, and DFL_Loss) demonstrated rapid convergence, indicating effective optimization in target localization, classification, and detail refinement. Future studies will focus on expanding the dataset, refining the model architecture, and improving its performance in detecting small targets and processing complex scenes, paving the way for its broader applications in environmental protection, urban planning, and multiobject detection.

Metformin normalizes mitochondrial function to delay astrocyte senescence in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease through Mfn2-cGAS signaling

Background
Senescent astrocytes play crucial roles in age-associated neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s disease (PD). Metformin, a drug widely used for treating diabetes, exerts longevity effects and neuroprotective activities. However, its effect on astrocyte senescence in PD remains to be defined.
Methods
Long culture-induced replicative senescence model and 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium/α-synuclein aggregate-induced premature senescence model, and a mouse model of PD were used to investigate the effect of metformin on astrocyte senescence in vivo and in vitro. Immunofluorescence staining and flow cytometric analyses were performed to evaluate the mitochondrial function. We stereotactically injected AAV carrying GFAP-promoter-cGAS-shRNA to mouse substantia nigra pars compacta regions to specifically reduce astrocytic cGAS expression to clarify the potential molecular mechanism by which metformin inhibited the astrocyte senescence in PD.
Results
We showed that metformin inhibited the astrocyte senescence in vitro and in PD mice. Mechanistically, metformin normalized mitochondrial function to reduce mitochondrial DNA release through mitofusin 2 (Mfn2), leading to inactivation of cGAS-STING, which delayed astrocyte senescence and prevented neurodegeneration. Mfn2 overexpression in astrocytes reversed the inhibitory role of metformin in cGAS-STING activation and astrocyte senescence. More importantly, metformin ameliorated dopamine neuron injury and behavioral deficits in mice by reducing the accumulation of senescent astrocytes via inhibition of astrocytic cGAS activation. Deletion of astrocytic cGAS abolished the suppressive effects of metformin on astrocyte senescence and neurodegeneration.
Conclusions
This work reveals that metformin delays astrocyte senescence via inhibiting astrocytic Mfn2-cGAS activation and suggest that metformin is a promising therapeutic agent for age-associated neurodegenerative diseases.

Effects of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists on Bone Mineral Density in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A 52-Week Clinical Study

Introduction. Hypoglycemic drugs affect the bone quality and the risk of fractures in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We aimed to investigate the effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) and insulin on bone mineral density (BMD) in T2DM. Methods. In this single-blinded study, a total of 65 patients with T2DM were randomly assigned into four groups for 52 weeks: the exenatide group (n=19), dulaglutide group (n=19), insulin glargine group (n=10), and placebo (n=17). General clinical data were collected, and BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results. Compared with baseline, the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) decreased significantly in the exenatide (8.11±0.24% vs. 7.40±0.16%, P=0.007), dulaglutide (8.77±0.37% vs. 7.06±0.28%, P<0.001), and insulin glargine (8.57±0.24% vs. 7.23±0.25%, P<0.001) groups after treatment. In the exenatide group, the BMD of the total hip increased. In the dulaglutide group, only the BMD of the femoral neck decreased (P=0.027), but the magnitude of decrease was less than that in the placebo group; the BMD of L1-L4, femoral neck, and total hip decreased significantly (P<0.05) in the placebo group, while in the insulin glargine group, the BMD of L2, L4, and L1-4 increased (P<0.05). Compared with the placebo group, the BMD of the femoral neck and total hip in the exenatide group and the insulin glargine group were increased significantly (P<0.05); compared with the exenatide group, the BMD of L4 in the insulin glargine group was also increased (P=0.001). Conclusions. Compared with the placebo, GLP-1RAs demonstrated an increase of BMD at multiple sites of the body after treatment, which may not exacerbate the consequences of bone fragility. Therefore, GLP-1RAs might be considered for patients with T2DM. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01648582.

Status and clinical influencing factors of involuntary admission in chinese patients with schizophrenia

Background
Though controversial for its various disadvantages, involuntary admission (IA) is necessary in providing mental health care for patients suffering from schizophrenia in China. This article examines the IA rate in a representative sample, and under which circumstances are these patients more likely to be admitted involuntarily.
Methods
Adult patients consecutively admitted to two typical hospitals in Shanghai between 2013 and 2014 with a diagnosis of ICD-10 schizophrenia were included. 2167 patients were included in this study. Sociodemographic and clinical data, as well as personal information of psychiatrists who made risk assessment, were collected. The whole sample was divided into voluntary and involuntary admission groups. Group comparisons were performed with SPSS 17.0, using one-way ANOVA, Wilcoxon rank sum test, Chi-squares and Logistic regression.
Results
Among 2167 inpatients, the majority (2003, 92.4%) were involuntarily admitted. Clinical features, including age of patients (
p
< 0.001, OR = 1.037), lacking of insight (
p
< 0.001, OR = 3.691), were statistically significant for IA. Psychiatrist’s age (
p
< 0.001, OR = 1.042) was independently associated with IA. However, risk behaviors had dramatically affected patients’ admission status, of which the strongest predictor of IA was noncompliance with treatment (
p
< 0.001, OR = 3.597). The areas under the curve of the ROC and accuracy for the regression model were 0.815 and 0.927, respectively.
Conclusion
IA patients account for a major proportion of all those hospitalized with schizophrenia in China. Insights and risk behaviors contributed the most reasons for admission status of patients. This research shed light on necessity of further qualitative studies learning detailed evaluation processes of IA and high-quality interventional studies aiming to limit the performance of IA among patients with schizophrenia.

Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Analysis of Steroidogenesis and Spermatogenesis Impairment in the Testis of db/db Mice

Objective. The mechanism of steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis impairment in men with type 2 diabetes remains unclear. We aimed to explore the local changes of steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis in the testis of db/db mice. Research Design and Methods. We performed single-cell RNA sequencing analysis in the testis of db/db and C57BL/6J mice. The differentially expressed genes were then confirmed by real-time PCR. The histopathological characteristics of testis in db/db mice and C57BL/6J control were also performed. Results. The 20-week-old db/db mice had significantly higher blood glucose and body weight (both p<0.001). The serum testosterone levels (4.4 ± 0.8 vs. 9.8 ± 0.7 ng/ml, p=0.001) and weight of the testis (0.16 ± 0.01 vs. 0.24 ± 0.01 g, p<0.001) were significantly lower in db/db mice than that in C57BL/6J controls. db/db mice had a lower cross-sectional area of seminiferous tubules and thickness of the cell layer (both p<0.05). The numbers of Sertoli cells and Leydig cells decreased in db/db mice (both p<0.01). Single-cell RNA sequencing analysis showed that compared with the control group, the percentage of spermatogonia was significantly higher in the db/db mouse (p<0.001), while the proportions of spermatocytes, round and elongating spermatids, and sperms were all lower in the db/db mouse (p all<0.001). The most differentially expressed genes were found in round spermatids (n = 86), which were not found in spermatogonia, spermatocyte, and sperm. Igfbp5 was the most significantly decreased gene in Leydig cells of the db/db mouse, while the expression of Cd74, H2-Aa, and H2-Eb1 was elevated. Ccl7 and Ptgds were the most significantly increased and decreased genes in Sertoli cells of the db/db mouse. Conclusions. The present study indicates spermiogenesis and steroidogenesis defects in db/db mice. The mechanism of steroidogenesis impairment in the testis of db/db mice deserves further investigation.

Changing patterns and influencing factors of involuntary admissions following the implementation of China’s mental health law: A 4-year longitudinal investigation

Involuntary admission (IA) is limited to particular situations in mental health laws to protect patients from unnecessary coercion. China’s first national mental health law has been in effect since 2013; however, the status of IA has not been sufficiently explored. To explore the changing patterns of IA since the clinical application of the IA criteria specified in the new law, an investigation of IA status was undertaken in 14 periods (each period lasting for one month from 05/2013 to 05/2017) in the tertiary specialized psychiatric hospital in Shanghai. The socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of 3733 patients were collected. The differences among IA rates in different periods were compared, and the characteristics of patients who were and were not involuntarily admitted were analysed. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to clarify the independent variables of IA. The IA rate dramatically decreased after the implementation of the new law, while the overall trend gradually increased. The implementation of the IA risk criteria is effective, but IA is still common in China. The medical factors influencing IA following the implementation of the new law are similar to those in previous studies at home and abroad. Non-medical factors might be the main causes of the high IA rates in Chinese psychiatric institutions.

Low Total Testosterone Levels in Men with Newly Diagnosed Early-Onset Type 2 Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Study in China

Objective. There is a bidirectional interaction between circulating testosterone and blood glucose levels. We aim to investigate the testosterone levels in men with early-onset type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Methods. A total of 153 drug naive men with T2DM were enrolled in the study. Early- (n=63) and late-onset (n=90) T2DM was classified according to age 40 years old. Clinical characteristics and plasma for biochemical criterions were collected. Gonadal hormones were measured using chemiluminescent immunometric assay. The concentrations of 3β- and 17β-HSD were determined using ELISA. Results. Compared with men with late-onset T2DM, those with early-onset T2DM had lower serum total testosterone (TT), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and FSH, but higher dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) level (p<0.05). The mediating effect analysis showed that the decreased TT levels in patients with early-onset T2DM were associated with the higher HbA1c, BMI, and triglyceride in these patients (both p<0.05). The early-onset of T2DM directly correlated with increased DHEA-S (both p<0.01). The 3β-HSD concentration in the early-onset T2DM group was lower than that in the late-onset T2DM group (11.07±3.05 vs. 12.40±2.72 pg/mL, p=0.048) and was positively correlated with fasting C-peptide, while negatively correlated with HbA1c and fasting glucagon (p all < 0.05). Conclusions. Patients with early-onset T2DM showed inhibition of conversion from DHEA to testosterone, which may attribute to the low level of 3β-HSD and high blood glucose in these patients.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Lysimachia medogensis (Primulaceae) and its phylogenetic analysis

It exhibits a typical circular quadripartite structure of 154,167 bp in length, consisting of a large single-copy region (84,223 bp), a small single-copy region (17,994 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (25,975 bp). A total of 126 genes were annotated, including 85 protein-coding genes, 33 transfer RNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis strongly supports its placement within the subgenus

Features of glycemic variations in drug naïve type 2 diabetic patients with different HbA1c values

values using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), a total of 195 drug naïve T2D patients were admitted. The subjects were divided into the following groups: lower HbA
