The article focuses on the observations noted by Porphyry of Tyre in the first book of his Quaestiones Homericae on the relationship between simile and metaphor in Homer. The numerous examples taken from the Homeric poems show the derivation of metaphorical forms from previous similes, as well as the amplification of metaphors into successive similes, the interchangeability of language between the two members of a simile and its trespass into the narrative and vice versa.

The article examines some Greek myths that have female characters as protagonists, through the mediation of Cesare Pavese, a classic of twentieth-century Italian literature. The research aims to highlight the writer's relationship with the Greek sources and to identify the mythical paradigms that embody his bitter vision of women and of the entire human existence.

The article offers a reinterpretation of the paean to Dionysus written by Philodamus Scarpheus (iv BC), which contains the first evidence of competitions of circular choruses at the Pythian Games of Delphi. It explores the relationship between Philip and the Macedonians and the Greek competitions, and reconstructs the historical and political context in which the paean was performed. As such, the article highlights the role played by Philip II of Macedon in the prescription of the events described in the paean and it identifies political and eulogistic intentions in parts of the mythical narrative.

SULPICIO MASSIMO E UN CONCORSO DI POESIA GRECA A ROMA: RIFLESSIONI SU ALCUNE QUESTIONI AGONISTICHE
This study reflects on different aspects of the poem performed by Sulpicius Maximus, at the age of eleven, in a contest of Greek poetry at the Capitoline Games in Rome. In particular, the work focuses on the encomiastic nature of the competition and identifies elements of praise towards the Emperor Domitian in the myth of Phaeton, which is the subject of the poem.
