DUE ISCRIZIONI GEROGLIFICHE E UN GRAFFITO DEMOTICO NEL TEMPIO DI MEDINET MADI
This paper provides a new edition of two hieroglyphic inscriptions engraved on a wall of the southern temple (A) at Medinet Madi, discovered and mentioned for the first time by Achille Vogliano (Secondo Rapporto degli scavi condotti dalla missione archeologica d'Egitto della R. Università di Milano nella zona di Madīnet Mādī, Milano, 1937, pp. 42-43 e Tav. XXXVI). The two inscriptions are votive texts of the Roman period: the first one is dedicated to Anubis \"Lord of Tȝ-wrj.t\", and the second one to the cobra-goddess Renenutet. In the latter the names of tree donors are recorded. Among them there is a man called [hieroglyphs] Ḥkȝ-pȝ-n-ỉj «Akeponnis»: he is likely to be identified with a priest of the tempie of Narmuthis also mentioned as [hieroglyphs] in the Demotic Ostraka from the tempie (second half of the II century AD). Along with the inscriptions a Ptolemaic Demotic graffito is published which has been recently found near the entrance of the tempie A.
L'ANNONA PER IL VIAGGIO IN EGITTO DI ANTONINO (MARCO AURELIO) IN UN TESTO DEMOTICO DA MEDINET MADI
The text of OMM 1233 mentions an amount of money collected for the supplies of the ἀννώνη of an emperor named Ἀντωνι̃νς who came to Egypt. The text is undated, but the facts described involve two priests of the temple of Narmouthis living during the reigns of the Antonines, and the emperor mentioned is apparently Marcus Aurelius, who was in Alexandria in the winter 175/6 AD.
QUANDO ADRIANO VENNE IN EGITTO UN NUOVO TESTO DEMOTICO SUL VIAGGIO DELL'IMPERATORE
The Demotic ostrakon n. 298 from Medinet Madi is a remarkable text mentioning the emperor Hadrian's journey to Egypt: «The Pharao Hadrian came to Egypt in his 15th year and asked: \"What about the skill of writing?\"». This question is followed by four names of priests from Narmuthis, who possibly replied to it. The text is incomplete: the ostrakon bears the greek serial number α («1»), meaning that it was the first of a series of ostraka progressively numbered into which a longer text was subdivided.
ESERCIZI SCOLASTICI IN DEMOTICO DA MEDINET MADI (II)
In this paper live Demotic school exercises from Medinet Madi are published; these ostraka follow a similar sample of texts already published in EVO XXII-XXIII. The texts have been selected so as to exemplify the main types of school exercises occurring in this collection: OMM 475 has been written under dictation and a second writer has subsequently revised the text. In OMM 1197 the scribe has copied some numbers and a simple sentence containing ali and only words with the same determinative. OMM 772 hints at the importance of learning the Greek writing. OMM 1010 contains short moral maxims and some astrological signs. OMM 307 presents some rule of conduct.
