NO. 3 RETURNS TO SPRINT CUP
2013
\"To see the fans' eyes light up at every autograph session, asking us if we're going to bring it back, asking us those questions, I really had no doubt this was the right thing to do. ... At autographs, I've never had anybody not be positive about it. If I was getting beat up every time I went to an autograph session, that would make you think twice about it. But every time it was like, 'Man, we want to see that number back. We're excited about it.' \" \"As a kid, [Austin Dillon] was a big [Dale Earnhardt Jr.] fan,\" [Richard Childress] said. \"I've got pictures of him as a kid in a Goodwrench uniform with Dale holding him and (longtime Earnhardt pit crew member) Chocolate (Myers) holding him as a baby. He used the No. 3 when he played in the Little League World Series. He had it on his go-karts. \"I just found these little go-karts while cleaning out the barn (Tuesday). There were two of them and both of them had the No. 3 on 'em. They were beat all to pieces, but he's always loved that number and that's what he always wanted to be associated with. As he got older and understood that I was a driver, and watching Dale, he understood the history of the number.\"

Newman offers no apology for Martinsville victory
2012
\"You kind of know what's going to happen. I did what I had to do to get a jump on the third-place car. That's really who I was racing,\" Neman said. \"[Jeff Gordon] was on old tires and [Clint Bowyer] wasn't so his car might have been a little better, so he stuck his nose up under there. That's what you've got to do at Martinsville. \"Jeff came up and hit me [afterward], I'm not sure why,\" [Ryan Newman] said. \"I'm sure it was because he had a dominant race car and he didn't win. But it wasn't me that caused that wreck. It was Clint who drove down underneath there. \"Clint put 'em three-wide, bounced off the curb and jumped up into 'em, from what I saw. That's what caused everything. I was going to make a run on Clint to do the same thing he was trying to do to Jeff. But Clint blocked me and I hit him right at the start-finish line and that kind of propelled him up to where he got up into the 24 car once they got to the corner. It worked out to my favor. I mean, it wasn't intended to be that way - but it definitely worked out to my favor.\"

JGR may regret giving KBM Nationwide green light
2012
\"He's his own man and makes his own decisions,\" [Joe Gibbs] said. \"But what we tried to do was sit with him and work out a plan for him this year. Obviously part of that is reducing his schedule a little bit so he can focus more on certain things. ... He'll be racing less - and I think that'll allow him to focus more on Cup. If you're racing Truck and a full Nationwide schedule, and trying to take care of all that, that's really a lot of time to be involved with crew chiefs and everything else. So I think where we're at right now is really good. It's going to be a year where we can really get focused and go after it.\" \"The Truck stuff? They said, 'We'd rather you not run Truck races.' So it wasn't necessarily an outright 'no.' But it was a highly recommended, 'Let's leave the Trucks alone.' \" \"He'll still take me outside once in a while and say, 'Whose name is on that sign? What does it say?' And I'll have to say, 'Joe Gibbs Racing,' \" J.D. said. \"And he'll be like, 'Just checking.' \"

New fueling system could present problems
by
Menzer, Joe
2011
\"It's crazy, man,\" [Tony Gibson] said. \"We blow it all up now because it's new and it's scary. But it's like anything else: the gas guys will get used to it and we'll figure out a way to make it work, and probably we'll get [the pit-stop times] back to where they were. We'll figure out a way to get it done faster. But right now, you want to be that guy who can figure out this scenario best - so you can take advantage of it.\" \"Their fueling systems are different. Their cans are different, their nozzles are different,\" Gibson said. \"All that stuff is slower. All that mating stuff is different - because that's what we were going to do. We were going to go back and look at the Truck Series and look at how they did their pit stops and all that. Well, they're not even the same deal.\" \"What we've been working on, too, is having the gas man watch the tire changer,\" Gibson said. \"He's watching him the whole time. As he hits his last nut, he's got to be pulling off. If not and that jack drops with that thing connected, you're in trouble. You can't get it off. If the car gets moving and it gets caught, you're screwed. You ain't getting it off there. It's just not going to happen.
