Using Relapse Prevention Interventions to Maintain Remission and Minimize Relapse Rates for Individuals With Schizophrenia: A Scoping Review
2022
Maintaining remission and improving quality of life for individuals with schizophrenia can encourage them to return to work, participate in volunteer opportunities, and establish healthy intimate relationships. The purpose of the current review was to explore the impacts of using relapse prevention interventions on maintaining remission and minimizing relapse rate for individuals with schizophrenia. A scoping review was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines to screen 134 studies published between 2010 and 2020. A total of 14 articles met eligibility criteria. Included studies showed that intervention strategies tailored to meet the needs of individuals with schizophrenia must be developed and applied in different psychiatric settings to maintain remission and minimize relapse rate. Trichophagia, or eating one’s own hair, commonly occurs in individuals with trichotillomania. Minimizing the symptoms of trichotillomania and trichophagia and maintaining remission can encourage them to have healthy lives. Conduct a scoping review to investigate the efficacy of using psychotherapy interventions to minimize symptoms of trichotillomania and trichophagia among individuals with trichotillomania. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines to screen 19,552 studies published between 2010 and 2022. A total of 19 studies that fulfill the eligibility criteria reported that psychotherapy interventions had been effective and applicable approaches to minimizing the symptoms of trichotillomania and trichophagia. Psychotherapy interventions are a promising treatment that is regarded as a credible treatment approach to ensure long-term positive outcomes among individuals with trichotillomania. This scoping review verifies the formalization and incorporation of psychotherapy interventions into standard practice and highlights the importance of mental health practitioners using them to ensure long-term positive outcomes for individuals with trichotillomania. Moreover, practitioners need further specialized training on a variety of psychotherapy interventions because not all of them are familiar with these interventions.

Introduction
One of the biggest challenges to public health is increasing knowledge of the early warning signs (EWS) of bipolar disorder recurrence. The recurrence incidence is still high despite multiple attempts to improve the awareness level. The awareness level is still ambiguous and insufficient.
Objective
The purpose of this study was to assess the degree of awareness of EWS of bipolar disorder recurrence among patients and their main caregivers in Jordan.
Methods
A descriptive cross-sectional design was used to recruit 275 patients and their main caregivers to fill out the adapted version of the Awareness of the EWS of Relapse Questionnaire.
Results
The analysis showed that patients and their main caregivers’ awareness of the EWS of bipolar disorder recurrence was low and inadequate (patients, mean = 2.61 (SD = 2.6); main caregivers, mean = 3.84 (SD = 2.2); scores range from 0 to 10).
Conclusion
According to the study, the awareness level of these signs is still vague and inadequate. This means that ensuring long-term positive results for patients and their main caregivers requires a high degree of awareness regarding the warning signs and symptoms of bipolar disorder recurrence. To engage in standard practice, EWS of bipolar disorder recurrence awareness necessitate adequate resources, support, and an empowered and well-communicated multidisciplinary team.

BackgroundBorderline personality disorder (BPD) is a mental illness connected with various mental disorders as a comorbid condition that affects an individual's capacity to live a healthy life. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a crucial medical intervention approach that can effectively alleviate the resistant symptoms of BPD, with or without comorbidity. Despite ECT being a safe and low-risk procedure, its utilization in treating BPD is limited and debatable. This review aims to investigate the efficacy and acceptability of electroconvulsive therapy for treating borderline personality disorder symptoms with or without comorbid disorders.ResultsWe used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to screen 1150 studies published between 2000 and 2024 from various databases. A total of nine studies that fulfilled the eligibility criteria reported that ECT has positive benefits and impacts on a variety of health-related aspects of life for patients with BPD symptoms, whether or not they also have comorbid disorders. This means that ECT may have a beneficial effect on reducing the severity of symptoms and play a significant role in the treatment outcomes of patients.ConclusionsECT is a promising treatment that is recognized as a credible treatment approach for ensuring long-term positive outcomes in individuals with BPD. It requires ongoing support from stakeholders, legislators, and community support networks to improve practitioners' proficiency and modify clinical practice standards to achieve better results.

ObjectivesThis study aims to examine the outcome of haematological and patients with solid cancer presenting with sepsis to the emergency department (ED).DesignSingle-centred, retrospective cohort study. Setting conducted at an academic emergency department of a tertiary hospital.ParticipantsAll patients >18 years of age admitted with sepsis were included.InterventionsPatients were stratified into two groups: haematological and solid malignancy.Primary and secondary outcomeThe primary outcome of the study was in-hospital mortality. Secondary outcomes included intensive care unit (ICU) mortality, ICU and hospital lengths of stay and mechanical ventilation duration.Results442 sepsis cancer patients were included in the study, of which 305 patients (69%) had solid tumours and 137 patients (31%) had a haematological malignancy. The mean age at presentation was 67.92 (±13.32) and 55.37 (±20.85) (p<0.001) for solid and liquid tumours, respectively. Among patients with solid malignancies, lung cancer was the most common source (15.6%). As for the laboratory workup, septic solid cancer patients were found to have a higher white blood count (12 576.90 vs 9137.23; p=0.026). During their hospital stay, a total of 158 (51.8%) patients with a solid malignancy died compared with 57 (41.6%) patients with a haematological malignancy (p=0.047). There was no statistically significant association between cancer type and hospital mortality (OR 1.15 for liquid cancer p 0.58). There was also no statistically significant difference regarding intravenous fluid administration, vasopressor use, steroid use or intubation.ConclusionSolid tumour patients with sepsis or septic shock are at the same risk of mortality as patients with haematological tumours. However, haematological malignancy patients admitted with sepsis or septic shock have higher rates of bacteraemia.

Introduction
Hypertension is a serious public health issue. It is a significant but controllable factor in the emergence of cardiovascular disease. Controlling hypertension is a main target for individuals to prevent further illness.
Objective
This study aims to explore the level of self-care behaviors, motivation, and self-efficacy among individuals with hypertension.
Methods
A cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational design was used to recruit (n = 121) participants utilizing the Hypertension Self-Care Profile (HTN-SCP) questionnaire.
Results
The analysis revealed that the mean score of self-care behavior was 49.7 (SD = 10.0) out of 20–80, which indicates that they are likely to have good self-care behavior. The mean score of motivation for self-care was 59.7 (SD = 11.8) out of 20–80, reflecting that individuals with hypertension have a good level of motivation for self-care, and the mean score of self-efficacy was 70.0 (SD = 9.8) out of 20–80, which means that individuals with hypertension have a high level of self-efficacy. Also, there was a significant positive correlation between self-care behavior and motivation for self-care (r = .527, p < .001), between motivation for self-care and self-efficacy (r = .554, p < .001), and between self-efficacy and self-care behavior (r = .572, p < .001).
Conclusion
The study revealed that Jordanian patients with hypertension have good self-care practices, motivation, and high self-efficacy. Patients should therefore be strongly recommended to be compliant with self-care practices. The government should prioritize hypertensive patients by making it easier for them to receive information about self-management practices to improve their quality of care.

Negative stress echocardiography (NSE) is associated with low cardiovascular morbidity and overall mortality. We aimed to determine the clinical and echocardiographic predictors of overall and cardiovascular outcomes following NSE. Patients who underwent SE between 2013 and 2017 were reviewed. Patients with a history of solid organ transplant or being evaluated for transplant, history of end-stage renal or liver disease, and positive SE were excluded. NSE results were divided into negative diagnostic if patient reached target heart rate (THR) and had no wall motion abnormality (WMA) at rest or stress; negative non-diagnostic if patient had no WMA but did not reach THR or if image quality was non-diagnostic; and abnormal non-ischemic if patient had a resting WMA not worsened at stress along with a personal history of coronary artery disease (CAD). New CAD lesion at 1 year was defined as ≥ 50% stenosis on cardiac catheterization. Of 4119 patients with SE, 2575 were included. All-cause mortality rate was 1.1%/year and CAD rate was 3.1%/year. Predictors of all-cause mortality were age, male gender, history of smoking and being selected for dobutamine SE. Predictors of a new CAD lesion at 1 year were male gender, diabetes, personal history of CAD and abnormal non-ischemic SE. We identified clinical and echocardiographic characteristics in a subset of NSE patients who are at higher risk for subsequent adverse events. These characteristics should be accounted for during the clinical interpretation of SE, and patients found at increased risk for morbidity and mortality warrant continued follow-up.
