Observe the quirks of the non-autistic Johnny through the eyes of someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Turning the tables on common perceptions of 'normal' social behaviour, our narrator lets us know that Johnny is 'different', but that's OK.

Classroom Techniques
2021
With an emphasis on engineering in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS Lead States 2013), there has simultaneously been an emphasis on design and subsequently STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math). The lessons described here were designed for a middle school science classroom over three 50-minute class periods; however, these lessons can be shorter, longer, and/or spread out within a larger unit on body systems as needed. Art infusion engages students more profoundly in learning; increases student achievement; and fosters creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration (Perry and Connelly 2011). A great way to be proactive with classroom management is to prepare a baseball-size ball of clay, a craft stick, and a small cup of water for each student prior to the activity (the craft stick does not have to be utilized if you do not want students to use tools).

ABSTRACT Introduction: Dissociated vertical divergence (DVD) has been associated with manifest head tilts. Also, DVD has been described as demonstrating a characteristic response to forced head tilt by increasing the size of the DVD on contralateral tilt. Methods: A series of 116 consecutive patients with DVD associated with infantile esotropia were examined according to a predetermined protocol between 1989 and 1994. Each patient was examined for a manifest head tilt. Also, the response of the DVD to forced ipsilateral and contralateral head tilt was analyzed. In addition, 100 consecutive patients with manifest head tilts were examined and the etiology of the tilt determined. Results: A manifest head tilt was present in 35% (26/74) of patients with an ocular fixation preference and no prior vertical muscle surgery. None of the patients with alternating fixation and a history of no vertical muscle surgery manifested a head tilt. Most patients responded in the classically described manner by increasing the size of the DVD on forced contralateral tilt and decreasing the size of the DVD on ipsilateral tilt. Atypical responses were not related to the presence of oblique overaction. DVD was the etiology in 9 of 100 consecutive patients with a manifest head tilt. Conclusions: Patients with DVD often manifest a head tilt. Most respond by increasing the size of the DVD on forced contralateral head tilt and decreasing on ipsilateral tilt. Atypical responses did not appear to be influenced by oblique overaction. DVD is a relatively frequent cause of manifest head tilts.

2010
The problem identified by this project is the conflict between the teacher's right to negotiate fair compensation and benefits and the superintendent's legal obligation to maintain fiscal responsibility. The ability of superintendents to be fiscally responsible, while negotiating fair salaries and benefits under current Missouri budgetary timelines for public schools provided the rationale of this project. The purpose of this project was to recommend changes to Missouri statutes related to budgetary policies. The project identified cases and statutes, which provide a historical perspective of collective bargaining history in the United States. The project studied state statutes related to teacher's rights to collectively bargain, the school district fiscal year and assessed value reporting for local taxation. Financial data in Missouri's public schools related to fund balance and recent trends in assessed values were analyzed to provide an understanding of the financial implications collective bargaining poses. This data, coupled with a synthesis of current Missouri statutes related to public school budgetary policy and current collective bargaining statutes, provided the basis for recommendations. The project culminated with recommended changes to Missouri statutes related to budgetary policy and collective bargaining. These recommendations provided a systems approach by fostering the transformation of competing interests into mutual interests for school districts to practice collective bargaining.

Junior Forest Wardens plant 1900 trees
by
Morton, Gail
2014
On May 25 the Junior Forest Wardens of Edson along with some volunteers planted 1900 pine trees. They might not professionals but they made easy work of an all day job The clear cut block that they planted was on the North Rosevear Hall road. The block had been cut in the winter of 2013-2014 by Weyerhauser.

The chemical synthesis of proteins
1997
The viability of extending the present methodology designed for the solid phase synthesis of peptides has been investigated. Using the catalytic domain of stromelysin (SCD. 173 residues) as the model system, a number of different factors affecting the preparation and purification of chemically synthesised proteins are examined. The purification SCD, prepared using stepwise solid phase synthesis is described. Following characterisation, it is evident that protein of the correct primary sequence has been prepared, furthermore, preliminary studies centred on the enzymatic activity of SCD indicate that active protease has been isolated. However, comparison of the conformational and biophysical properties of chemically synthesised SCD with the recombinant counterpart, suggests that there are problems associated with the folding of the synthetic SCD. The construction of chemically synthesised SCD via convergent protein synthesis is also described. Two different coupling strategies involving classical and azide fragment condensation are examined where it has been highlighted that the overall success of each fragment coupling is greatly dependent on the peptide length and sequence. As well as comparing methods for the preparation and coupling of fully and minimally protected peptides, general procedures for both solution and solid phase fragment coupling are discussed. A novel strategy for the convergent synthesis of peptides and proteins has been investigated. In this total chemical synthesis, two minimally protected peptides are joined through unique, mutually reactive functional groups, yielding a peptide analogue with a thioether replacement for the native peptide bond at the site of ligation. A general route to C-terminal sulfhydryl and N-terminal haloacetylated peptides is presented, accompanied with results of the preliminary ligation studies.

Local residents attend Rally for Fourty-Four
2007
I feel that the forest minister speaks in words which are akin to \"The Emperor's New Clothes\", the old fairy tale wherein the Emperor parades around in invisible clothing and everyone applauds even though the emperor is actually naked: There is just no substance to Mr. Coleman's so-called efforts to revitalize forestry here. And the naked truth is that without effective legislation we are losing and have lost local jobs, our forest industry workers and their families will feel the effects of Mr. Coleman's actions in more ways than economically. We were able to witness both Mr. [Scott Fraser]'s and Bob Simpson's (forestry critic) support for our efforts at obtaining legislation to protect our forests, workers, watersheds, and everything upon which we depend for living here in the Alberni Valley. We took a jar of muddy water from Wayne Crowley's intake in Beaver Creek by DFO (Department of Fisheries Officer) in January, 2006, after a landslide from the clear cutting above Mr. Crowley's home impacted his drinking water.

20/20: Spotlight on Valley's vision
2007
Outlook facilitators including Pamela Day, Edna Cox, Theresa Kingston and Sylvia Springer created a sense of surfing on optimism with their upbeat presentation in relay style. Group discussions allowed participants to talk about the vision, raising questions and comments such as, \"How do we take this (vision) out to others?\" Theresa Kingston stated once more: \"Outlook 20/20 will facilitate this process with your group.\"
