Tracing the Tracts of Qaṣaṣ: Towards a Theory of Narrative Pedagogy in Islamic Education
2023
The concept of narrative holds a pivotal position in the Qurʾān, yet it has been subject to inadequate scrutiny and insufficient representation in pedagogical discourse concerning Islamic education. The present work endeavours to rectify this gap in knowledge by employing the technique of constructivist grounded theory to the Qurʾān and major exegeses, with a particular focus on the term qaṣaṣ, which pertains to the notion of narrative. This article delves into the profound tracts and maqāṣid (objectives) that qaṣaṣ hold in the Qurʾān and contemplates their exhortation for education on Islam and modern pedagogy. The analysis reveals that the qaṣaṣ present in the Qurʾān serves as a fundamental framework that directs the essence of the narrative pedagogy model of teaching and learning between the pedagogue and learner. Through typological figuration, the listener’s contemplation leads to a re-evaluation of conventional notions surrounding the dynamics between teacher and student and the dissemination of narrative within a pedagogical setting. The triad of truth, beauty and explication are fundamental pillars within this Islamic framework for narrative pedagogy, representing the essence of the human condition concerning education. Because these domains emerge from the concept of qaṣaṣ, the integration of the framework into Islamic education is a matter of utmost importance, given its centrality in the Qurʾān to foster and perfect the principles of Muslims and their sense of self.

Integration of Knowledge: An Overview of the Participation at the Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia
2025
The goal of this research is to show how the many methodologies, approaches, notions, and contributions under the Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies (FPQS), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) have enormous potential for students, teachers, educators, academicians, and scholars in Islamic studies to illuminate the integration of knowledge. This article outlines FPQS’s academic endeavours and focuses on interests that signify the framework for Muslims’ understanding of epistemology. Rather than being merely of historical interest, the article argues that FPQS’s coordination is a valuable starting point for developing a contemporary discourse on al-Quran and sunah studies in Malaysia and the Muslim world. The present paper takes it a step further, proposing that integration of knowledge in an academic ambiance can be achieved through the collective enterprise of the epistemology of scholastic traditions of Islam, university and national policies, as well as the aspirations and practices of faculties.

Exploring the Impact of Loan-to-Value Relaxation Policy on Property Stocks in Indonesia
Purpose: This study analyzes the reaction of property stocks before and after the issuance of the loan-to-value (LTV) relaxation policy. By using abnormal returns and trading volume activity (TVA), it explores how LTV, which determines the loan amount relative to property value, affects property stock prices. Design/methodology/approach: A sample of 49 property company stocks was studied using a 60-day estimation window and a 20-day event window around the LTV policy. The event study method was used to regress stock and market returns via the single index model to calculate abnormal returns (AR). Trading volume activity trends were also analyzed, followed by a normality test. Findings: The results showed significant differences in abnormal returns before and after the LTV policy, though trading volume activity remained unchanged. This suggests potential government use in refining LTV policies. Research limitations/implications: The f indings reveal that LTV policy changes directly influence property stock prices, providing insights for financial regulators to improve policy efficiency in managing the property market. Originality/value: While financial policies' impact on stock markets is well-researched, this study's focus on LTV policy in the property sector provides a unique perspective on a key regulatory factor.

Many contemporary studies approach Mahdism from a political-science orientation or historical perspective, as the evidence is marshalled from the influential Mahdist movement in Islamic history—Abbasids, Fatimids, Muwahhids, Sudanese Mahdists, and so on. As such, it can be seen that there has been a lack of discourse as regards abstraction, particularly concerning the literary structure of Mahdī ḥadīth. This paper explores a panoramic view of ḥadīth commentaries in order to understand their commentarial production on apocalyptic questions, specifically focusing on the subject of Mahdī within this trend of Sunni ḥadīth scholarship. Ḥadīth commentaries are meant to bridge the gap in space and time between Prophetic words or teachings and the actual world of the reader. Hence, this study provides a brief survey of the documentation of Mahdī ḥadīth, starting with the classical Sunnite ḥadīth compendia of the second century of Hijrah. The material has been drawn from ḥadīth compendia, topical ḥadīth works, sīrah literature, classical-to-modern ḥadīth commentaries, and other theological writings and has been balanced when feasible with details (or lack thereof) contained in the Quran. Advocators have always adopted and adjusted their hermeneutics in order to answer challenges posed by deniers of Mahdī ḥadīth. Regardless of how exactly these strategies, attitudes, and uses arose, it is safe to assume that these scholars undertook their work out of professional vocation in addition to religious devotion. Eventually, ḥadīth commentaries found their place in the theological discourse according to orientations and operations of eschatology, which to a certain extent reflect classical, medieval, or contemporary attitudes toward the meaning and relevance of Mahdī ḥadīth.

Ḥadīṯ Scholar and Historiography: Some Reflections on the Sīra Corpora of Ibn Ḥibbān al-Bustī's (d. 354/965) Kitāb al-Ṯiqāt
Abstract
In a recent volume of the Encyclopaedia of Arabic Literature, Ibn Ḥibbān is credited as the author of the Kitāb al-Ṯiqāt, and is described as \"a widely travelled traditionist and prolific writer.\" The Kitāb al-Ṯiqāt is one of the most valuable sources for the study of the biographies of the transmitters of the ḥadīṯs over the first three centuries and is a record of medieval Islamicate history, even including non-ḥadīṯ transmission. The subject of the Kitāb al-Ṯiqāt is the Prophet's sīra, the history of caliphs and kings, biographies of Companions, ḥadīṯ transmitters, legal theorists, theologians, and many others. In this brief article, an attempt is made to describe Ibn Ḥibbān's approach to the sīra of the Prophet, in order to arrive at some general considerations on the relationship between ḥadīṯ studies and historiography. The tarāǧim (chapter titles) and narrative arrangement of the Kitāb al-Ṯiqāt give insight into Ibn Ḥibbān's expositions, and demonstrate that his interest goes beyond the science of ḥadīṯ transmission.

The process of hatching chicken eggs by farmers still uses manual methods, in the market itself there are hatching machine tools but not fully automated. So that the chicken breeding process is less effective and efficient to meet high market needs. In this study, an automatic chicken egg hatching incubator device based on the DHT 11 sensor was designed. The purpose of this design is to help farmers to hatch chicken eggs automatically. The way this tool works is to hatch chicken eggs automatically with a DHT 11 sensor that can read temperature and humidity so that temperature and humidity can be stable according to the needs obtained from the heat of incandescent lamps, fans, and water in the incubator. Then for the process of turning chicken eggs, farmers do not need to do it manually because they already use automatic racks regulated by RTC (Real Time Clock). For the egg turning schedule so that it will move the dynamo motor and the egg rack will shift to turn the eggs. As a result of this study, the well-designed device works and can produce 91% egg hatching with stable temperature and humidity and scheduled egg turning.

Pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) is an abnormal connection between the pharynx and skin that can occur after laryngectomy surgery. It can have a significant negative impact on patient recovery, delaying wound healing, requiring prolonged nil-per-oral (NPO) status, and reducing quality of life. Traditionally, the management of PCF has relied on conservative measures or surgical intervention. However, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) offers a promising alternative approach. This case study involves three patients who underwent laryngectomy and developed postoperative PCF. All patients received NPWT with a modified suction catheter and low negative pressure (20-40 mmHg). With NPWT, all patients achieved complete wound closure, with healing times ranging from two weeks to six weeks. This suggests that NPWT may significantly accelerate PCF healing compared to traditional methods. However, maintaining an airtight dressing on the neck region can be challenging. This study highlights the potential of NPWT for faster PCF closure after laryngectomy. Further research is needed to optimize NPWT application techniques, explore the impact on long-term outcomes, and establish guidelines for broader clinical use.

Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is a critical failure mechanism affecting various materials, particularly in environments susceptible to moisture and chemicals. This research focuses on analysing stress corrosion cracking in T-type tee junctions, comparing traditional steel components with carbon fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRPs). Although steel is a widely used material in marine engineering applications, it is prone to corrosion and degradation over time, especially without protective coatings. In contrast, CFRPs demonstrate superior corrosion resistance due to the composition of carbon fibres embedded in a polymer matrix, typically epoxy resin. This intrinsic property allows CFRPs to withstand harsh environmental conditions without rusting, thereby maintaining structural integrity. Additionally, CFRPs offer a favourable strength-to-weight ratio, providing comparable strength to steel while being significantly lighter. The implications of using CFRPs in applications prone to SCC are profound. CFRPs not only mitigate the risks associated with corrosion but also enhance the overall performance and longevity of structures. This analysis highlights the potential of CFRPs as a viable material alternative to steel in critical applications, particularly in industries where stress corrosion cracking poses significant operational challenges. The findings suggest material selection and design strategies for upgraded resilience against SCC in engineering applications.

Aim: To highlight the challenges involved in the diagnosis and management of synchronous tumours. A synchronous head and neck lesion brings the attending physician into a quandary, as there is no gold standard for managing such patients. Failure to respond to treatment should provoke physicians into considering other possible diagnoses, as often a secondary lesion may be the hidden culprit. Case report: Herein, we present a case of a synchronous cervical mass: Kimura disease and nasopharyngeal carcinoma in a 48-year-old woman. She was initially treated for Kimura disease based on fine-needle aspiration cytology evidence, and later found out to have a synchronous malignancy in the fossa of Rosenmüller. Failure of Kimura disease to respond to steroid treatment led to a repeated examination, which resulted in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The patient was treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Conclusion: Kimura disease, a rare benign head and neck tumour, is treated successfully with steroids. Persistent swelling coupled with treatment failure should alert physicians to repeat patient assessment, as improper disease management leads to severe complications.
