Phosphate Adsorption by Silver Nanoparticles-Loaded Activated Carbon derived from Tea Residue
This study presents the removal of phosphate from aqueous solution using a new silver nanoparticles-loaded tea activated carbon (AgNPs-TAC) material. In order to reduce costs, the tea activated carbon was produced from tea residue. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of impregnation ratio of AgNPs and TAC, pH solution, contact time, initial phosphate concentration and dose of AgNPs-AC on removing phosphate from aqueous solution. Results show that the best conditions for phosphate adsorption occurred at the impregnation ratio AgNPs/TAC of 3% w/w, pH 3, and contact time lasting 150 min. The maximum adsorption capacity of phosphate on AgNPs-TAC determined by the Langmuir model was 13.62 mg/g at an initial phosphate concentration of 30 mg/L. The adsorption isotherm of phosphate on AgNPs-TAC fits well with both the Langmuir and Sips models. The adsorption kinetics data were also described well by the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models with high correlation coefficients of 0.978 and 0.966, respectively. The adsorption process was controlled by chemisorption through complexes and ligand exchange mechanisms. This study suggests that AgNPs-TAC is a promising, low cost adsorbent for phosphate removal from aqueous solution.
Trends and Perspectives in Financial Technology with Scopus Dataset between 2015 and 2024
Purpose: This research enhances the topic of decision sciences by offering a bibliometric, data-informed method to examine the intellectual landscape of financial technology studies over the past ten years. Design/methodology/approach: This study conducted an in-depth examination of various publication attributes us ing data from the Scopus database. It evaluates the research productivity, influence, and performance of countries, academic journals, individual scholars, institutions, and co-citation networks. A co-keyword analysis was also em ployed to investigate the interrelationships among research themes, shifts in theoretical perspectives, and emerging interdisciplinary trends. Findings: The analysis reveals a steady annual growth in publications, with the United States, the United Kingdom, and China leading financial technology research. Furthermore, the study highlights five key thematic areas within the domain: (1) digital finance and green innovation, (2) fintech and environmental sustainability, (3) regulatory advancements in digital finance, (4) blockchain, trust, and the digital investment ecosystem, and (5) decentralized finance, including peer-to-peer lending and crowdfunding. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited by its choice of only the Scopus database and the absence of a complementary systematic review. However, the authors remain confident that the results effectively reflect the intellectual structure of financial technology research, given the rigorous criteria for analysis. Originality/value: The new topic groups show the study's unique findings about digital finance, green innovation, environmental sustainability, regulatory sandbox, blockchain, trust, and decentralized finance.
Green Innovation Practices and Guests’ Return Intention: Mediating Roles of Green Image, Guest’s Positive Mood and Satisfaction
The awareness of green innovation practices (GIP) is trending globally. It is still unclear how guests’ return intentions support GIP. Based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and innovation theory, this study explored the influence of GIP on guests’ return intention through the mediating role of green hotel image, guests’ positive mood, and guests’ satisfaction. Data was collected from 1,058 hotel guests and analyzed by utilizing PLS-SEM. The findings confirmed all the hypotheses, except water-saving didn’t affect guests’ positive mood, and energy-saving didn’t affect guests’ satisfaction, thus green hotel image, guest satisfaction, and guests’ positive mood mediated the relationships between GIP and guests’ return intentions. This study enriches GIP and customer behavioral intentions literature in the hospitality industry, hotel managers focus on GIP to improve guests’ satisfaction, and positive moods to enhance guests’ return intentions to the hotels, the results provide some suggestions for future research and managers of the hospitality sector with practical recommendations. This study attempts to explore the influence of GIP on guests’ return intention through the mediating role of green hotel image, guest’s positive mood, and guest satisfaction. The findings revealed that GIP significantly directly and indirectly impacts green hotel image, guest satisfaction, and guest’s positive mood, thus establishing mediation, and guests’ return intentions. Non-significant results for water-saving suggest that guests’ positive mood and energy-saving practices suggest that guest satisfaction is not affected by supporting green hotel-based GIP practices.
Applying Activated Carbon Derived from Coconut Shell Loaded by Silver Nanoparticles to Remove Methylene Blue in Aqueous Solution
This study developed a new adsorbent, specifically activated carbon-loaded silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-AC) by coating the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) onto activated carbon (AC). The obtained AgNPs-AC were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The ability of AgNPs-AC to remove methylene blue (MB) was evaluated using different experimental factors, these being pH solution, contact time, adsorbent dose, and initial MB concentration. Results indicated that the highest adsorption capacity of MB onto AgNPs-AC was obtained when the AC was loaded onto AgNPs at the impregnation ratio of 0.5% w/w for AC and AgNPs. The best conditions in which AgNPs-AC could remove MB were as follows: pH 10, contact time lasting 120 min, and adsorbent dose being 250 mg/25 mL solution. In this scenario, the maximum adsorption capacity of MB onto AgNPs-AC was 172.22 mg/g. The adsorption isothermal equilibrium was well described by the Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips models. The Sips equations had the highest correlation coefficient value (R2 = 0.935). The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models agree well with the dynamic behavior of the adsorption of dye MB on AgNPs-AC.
Treatment of Hexavalent Chromium Contaminated Wastewater Using Activated Carbon Derived from Coconut Shell Loaded by Silver Nanoparticles: Batch Experiment
Chromium (Cr(VI)) causes serious impacts on the environment and human. In this study, the commercial activated carbon-loaded silver nanoparticle (AgNPs-AC) was used as a new adsorbent to remove Cr(VI) from the aqueous solution. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of pH, the initial concentration of Cr(VI), contact time, and dose of AgNPs-AC upon removal of Cr(VI) from the aqueous solution. The results showed that at pH of 4, the contact time of 150 min, 40 mg/L of initial Cr(VI), and dosage of 20 mg AgNPs-AC/25 mL were the most suitable condition for absorption of Cr(VI) onto AgNPs-AC from the aqueous solution. The maximum adsorption capacity achieved at abovementioned conditions was 27.70 mg/g. Meanwhile, the adsorption capacity of commercial activated carbon from a coconut shell obtained only 7.61 mg/g in the case where the initial Cr(VI) concentration is 10 mg/L and the contact time is 60 min. The adsorption kinetic data were found to fit best to the pseudo-second-order model with a high correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.9597). The adsorption process was controlled by chemisorption due to the appearance of new chemical species on the adsorbent surface. The positively charged functional groups rapidly reduced Cr(VI) to Cr(III), and Cr(III) was subsequently adsorbed by the carboxyl group on the adsorbent’s surface. From this study, it can be concluded that AgNPs-AC is a fully promising, low-cost adsorbent in the removal of Cr(VI) from the aqueous solution.
Cr(VI) Removal from Aqueous Solution Using a Magnetite Snail Shell
In this study, magnetic snail shell (MSS) prepared by impregnating of iron oxide onto snail shell (SS) powder was used for removing Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. Among six different mass ratios of Fe/SS powder studied, the MSS25 produced at a ratio of 25% achieved the highest Cr(VI) adsorption capacity. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to investigate the adsorption isotherm, kinetics, and mechanism of Cr(VI) onto MSS25. The results illustrated that adsorption of Cr(VI) onto MSS25 reached equilibrium after 150 min at pH 3. The adsorption kinetics could be well described by the pseudo-second order model (R2 = 0.986). The Langmuir model (R2 = 0.971) was the best-fitting model that described the adsorption isotherm of Cr(VI) onto MSS25. The maximum adsorption capacity was 46.08 mg Cr(VI) per gram of MSS25. Ion exchange, electrostatic attraction, and adsorption-coupled reduction were determined as the main adsorption mechanisms of Cr(VI) onto MSS25. The high percentages of CaCO3 and Fe3O4 found in the MSS25 structure made a significant contribution to the Cr(VI) adsorption process.
Electrochemical detection of oxytetracycline employing sugarcane carbon modified graphite electrode
The present study used CeO 2 -Co 3 O 4 quantum dots@porous carbon/multiwalled carbon nanotube (CeO 2 -Co 3 O 4 QDs@PC/MWCNT/GE) composites to modify graphite electrodes to fabricate high-sensitivity electrochemical sensors to detect the presence of oxytetracycline (OTC). The quantum dots were made from waste sugarcane bagasse. The electrochemical analysis demonstrated the superior electrochemical performance of CeO 2 -Co 3 O 4 QDs@PC/MWCNT/GE, with a peak current density of 1.276 mA/cm 2 . Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed lower impedance values for CeO 2 -Co 3 O 4 QDs@PC/MWCNT/GE compared to other electrodes, indicating enhanced conductivity. The modified electrode exhibited an enlarged electrochemically active area, with values of 0.602 cm 2 , almost seven times that of the bare graphite electrode (0.079 cm 2 ). The results showed that the CeO 2 -Co 3 O 4 QDs@PC/MWCNT/GE had excellent performance for OTC detection, and its linear calibration range was 1.007 × 10 −8 to 2.04 × 10 −7  M (i.e., 0.005–0.1 ppm) and 1.007 × 10 −6 to 1.209 × 10 −4  M (i.e., 0.5–60 ppm). The limit of detection and limit of quantification were 1.23 nM (0.61 ppb) and 4.09 nM (2.03 ppb) (S/N = 3), respectively. The electrode demonstrated long-term stability for up to 7 weeks. This method provides a new way to prepare electrochemical sensors for OTC detection. Graphical abstract
The pioneers of Vietnam’s epidemiological transition: an ethnographic study of pregnant women’s experiences of gestational diabetes
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is an abnormal glucose metabolism diagnosed during pregnancy that can have serious adverse consequences for mother and child. GDM is an exceptional health condition, as its management serves not only as treatment but also as prevention, reducing the risk of future diabetes in mother and child. This qualitative study aimed to explore how pregnant women experience and respond to GDM, focusing particularly on the role of the family environment in shaping women's experiences. The research was carried out in Vietnam's Thái Bình province in April-May 2023. We conducted in-depth ethnographic interviews with 21 women with GDM, visiting them in their homes. Our theoretical starting point was phenomenological anthropology, and the data were analysed using a thematic analysis approach. At the centre of women's experiences was the contrast between GDM as a biomedical and a social condition. Whereas GDM was biomedically diagnosed and managed in the healthcare system, it was often deemed insignificant or non-existent by family members. This made GDM a but health condition. This paradox posed challenges to women's GDM self-care, placing them in pioneering social positions. The biomedical presence yet social absence of GDM turned women into pioneers at biomedical, digital, epidemiological, and family frontiers. This article calls for appreciation of pregnant women's pioneering roles and for health systems action to involve women and families in the development of GDM policies and programmes at a time of sweeping global health changes.
The relations among environmental, social disclosure, sustainable development and firm performance: Empirical evidence from mining enterprises listed on the stock market in Vietnam
This study was conducted to examine the relationship among environmental, social disclosure, sustainable development, and firm performance. The data is collected from 71 mining companies listed on Vietnam's stock market from 2018 to 2021. Research results show that the level of environmental and social disclosure has direct impact on the level of sustainable development and firm performance of the company. Moreover, the results also show that the level of environmental and social disclosure has indirect impact on the firm performance of through the sustainability variable. Through findings, some recommendations are given for promoting social and environmental disclose of Vietnamese mining companies and similar countries to raise their awareness and responsibility for social and environmental information disclosure.
Exploring the inter-organizational relationship performance: evidence from social-oriented market
The inter-organizational relationships are a key pillar of service sectors to drive them to work together to resolve complex problems in an uncertain environment. However, it is still unclear why the travel companies engage in IRs and what factors drive inter-organizational relationship performance (IRP). Resource dependence theory was adopted to explore the characteristics of travel companies and their partners in IRP framework. Data was collected from the in-depth interviews with senior executives of travel companies (n = 11) and a self-administered questionnaire to collect 319 cases, a quantitative approach was utilized to test the research hypotheses by using the PLS-SEM technique. The results indicated that commitment, coordination, trust, and frequency of interaction affect IRP between travel companies and their partners, it suggests they actively work to engage in IRs to achieve effectiveness. Surprisingly, no differences were found in communication, flexibility, and participation influence IRP. The results highlight the importance of tourism collaboration and find the reasons for forming the relationships to increase the control of the uncertainty of the environment, build strategies to respond to the crisis and maintain the tourism performance of IRs and management strategies. The social-oriented market in Vietnam, to develop tourism industry by cooperating in JATA, ASTA, and PATA, have business relationships with 800 collaborations in over 50 countries. The results of tourism services reached 9.2 percent of GDP. In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic broke out that collapsed the 60-year development tourism of the social-oriented market, the accommodation, restaurants, and 90 percent to 95 percent of travel companies must suspend their operations, how travel companies overcome this crisis? The purpose of this study is to identify which factors drive inter-organizational relationship performance (IRP), we used mixed methods by conducting 11 in-depth interviews, and survey data from 319 travel companies were used to test the model and hypotheses, the results found that commitment, coordination, trust, frequency of interaction affect IRP between travel companies and their partners. It highlights the importance of tourism collaboration and found the reasons of forming the IRs and suggests management strategies.
