A GENERAL THEORY OF HYPOTHESIS TESTS AND CONFIDENCE REGIONS FOR SPARSE HIGH DIMENSIONAL MODELS
We consider the problem of uncertainty assessment for low dimensional components in high dimensional models. Specifically, we propose a novel decorrelated score function to handle the impact of high dimensional nuisance parameters. We consider both hypothesis tests and confidence regions for generic penalized M-estimators. Unlike most existing inferential methods which are tailored for individual models, our method provides a general framework for high dimensional inference and is applicable to a wide variety of applications. In particular, we apply this general framework to study five illustrative examples: linear regression, logistic regression, Poisson regression, Gaussian graphical model and additive hazards model. For hypothesis testing, we develop general theorems to characterize the limiting distributions of the decorrelated score test statistic under both null hypothesis and local alternatives. These results provide asymptotic guarantees on the type I errors and local powers. For confidence region construction, we show that the decorrelated score function can be used to construct point estimators that are asymptotically normal and semiparametrically efficient. We further generalize this framework to handle the settings of misspecified models. Thorough numerical results are provided to back up the developed theory.
The living record of scientific history : conversations with CN Yang
Professor Chen-Ning Yang is best known for his achievements in Physics. He has also made significant contributions to the development of mathematics, as mathematics is extensively used in his research. In his long and fruitful academic career, he has witnessed many important events in the fields of Physics and Mathematics, and has collaborated or interacted with many great scientists in history. This book records eight interviews with Professor Chen-Ning Yang, which were conducted by the authors from 2016 to 2019. Through Professor Yang's unique perspective, major scientific events in the 20th century were revisited vividly, elaborating the development and mutual influences of mathematics and physics, as well as unveiling the academic work, the daily lives, and the personalities of scientists, as well as their collaboration and competition, some stories unknown to the public before are also revealed in this book.
A New Model of Multiple Intelligence for Teaching English Informatics in the IoT Scenario
This paper presents an in-depth study on the new mode of intelligent multidistance teaching of English with the help of virtual scenes of the Internet of Things. The virtual simulation technology is integrated into the traditional IoT teaching, and the professional education of IoT application technology is tapped; from the analysis of the current situation of IoT skills teaching and the feasibility of carrying out virtual simulation teaching, the “four-driven” design principle is proposed, and the teaching design is combined with the virtual simulation technology teaching, and the case design of the skill-based virtual simulation technology teaching of experience, demonstration, interaction, and assessment in the virtual environment is given. This paper presents the case design of virtual simulation teaching in a virtual environment with experience, demonstration, interaction, and assessment, and the multidimensional effect evaluation of IoT skills teaching and researches the application of virtual simulation to IoT skills teaching through the above four aspects. In this paper, a framework for distributed collaborative computing is built using an asynchronous message queue MQ, which enables multiple nodes to serve a task through task splitting. The DeepCluster module can effectively cluster the time series by deep representation learning and obtain the typical variation of time series patterns. In the task offloading module of the framework, a task offloading decision algorithm based on a value-constrained multi 0–1 backpacking model is designed to minimize task processing latency with an optimal offloading solution. The system test results show that the proposed distributed computing framework and offloading decision algorithm can significantly reduce the processing latency of large tasks.
Gut metagenomic analysis reveals prominent roles of Lactobacillus and cecal microbiota in chicken feed efficiency
Interactions between the host and gut microbiota can affect gut metabolism. In this study, the individual performances of 252 hens were recorded to evaluate feed efficiency. Hens with contrasting feed efficiencies (14 birds per group) were selected to investigate their duodenal, cecal and fecal microbial composition by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene V4 region. The results showed that the microbial community in the cecum was quite different from those in the duodenum and feces. The highest biodiversity and all differentially abundant taxa between the different efficiency groups were observed in the cecal microbial community with false discovery rate (FDR) <0.05. Of these differentially abundant cecal microbes, Lactobacillus accounted for a greater proportion than the others. The abundances of Lactobacillus and Akkermansia were significantly higher while that of Faecalibacterium was lower (FDR < 0.05) in the better feed efficiency (BFE) group. Phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states (PICRUSt) analysis revealed that the functions relating to glycometabolism and amino acid metabolism were enriched in the cecal microbiota of the BFE group. These results indicated the prominent role of cecal microbiota in the feed efficiency of chickens and suggested plausible uses of Lactobacillus to improve the feed efficiency of host.
Recent Advances in Flexible Tactile Sensors for Intelligent Systems
Tactile sensors are an important medium for artificial intelligence systems to perceive their external environment. With the rapid development of smart robots, wearable devices, and human-computer interaction interfaces, flexible tactile sensing has attracted extensive attention. An overview of the recent development in high-performance tactile sensors used for smart systems is introduced. The main transduction mechanisms of flexible tactile sensors including piezoresistive, capacitive, piezoelectric, and triboelectric sensors are discussed in detail. The development status of flexible tactile sensors with high resolution, high sensitive, self-powered, and visual capabilities are focused on. Then, for intelligent systems, the wide application prospects of flexible tactile sensors in the fields of wearable electronics, intelligent robots, human-computer interaction interfaces, and implantable electronics are systematically discussed. Finally, the future prospects of flexible tactile sensors for intelligent systems are proposed.
Genomic signatures define three subtypes of EGFR-mutant stage II–III non-small-cell lung cancer with distinct adjuvant therapy outcomes
The ADJUVANT study reported the comparative superiority of adjuvant gefitinib over chemotherapy in disease-free survival of resected EGFR -mutant stage II–IIIA non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, not all patients experienced favorable clinical outcomes with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI), raising the necessity for further biomarker assessment. In this work, by comprehensive genomic profiling of 171 tumor tissues from the ADJUVANT trial, five predictive biomarkers are identified ( TP53 exon4/5 mutations, RB1 alterations, and copy number gains of NKX2-1 , CDK4 , and MYC ). Then we integrate them into the Multiple-gene INdex to Evaluate the Relative benefit of Various Adjuvant therapies (MINERVA) score, which categorizes patients into three subgroups with relative disease-free survival and overall survival benefits from either adjuvant gefitinib or chemotherapy (Highly TKI-Preferable, TKI-Preferable, and Chemotherapy-Preferable groups). This study demonstrates that predictive genomic signatures could potentially stratify resected EGFR -mutant NSCLC patients and provide precise guidance towards future personalized adjuvant therapy. Adjuvant gefitinib improves outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients compared to chemotherapy, but not in all cases. Here, the authors find genomic biomarkers of response to gefitinib in NSCLC patients from the ADJUVANT trial, and propose a score to stratify them by potential benefit from the treatment.
Gefitinib versus vinorelbine plus cisplatin as adjuvant treatment for stage II–IIIA (N1–N2) EGFR-mutant NSCLC (ADJUVANT/CTONG1104): a randomised, open-label, phase 3 study
Cisplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy is the standard of care for patients with resected stage II–IIIA non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). RADIANT and SELECT trial data suggest patients with EGFR-mutant stage IB–IIIA resected NSCLC could benefit from adjuvant EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment. We aimed to compare the efficacy of adjuvant gefitinib versus vinorelbine plus cisplatin in patients with completely resected EGFR-mutant stage II–IIIA (N1–N2) NSCLC. We did a randomised, open-label, phase 3 trial at 27 centres in China. We enrolled patients aged 18–75 years with completely resected (R0), stage II–IIIA (N1–N2), EGFR-mutant (exon 19 deletion or exon 21 Leu858Arg) NSCLC. Patients were stratified by N stage and EGFR mutation status and randomised (1:1) by Pocock and Simon minimisation with a random element to either gefitinib (250 mg once daily) for 24 months or intravenous vinorelbine (25 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8) plus intravenous cisplatin (75 mg/m2 on day 1) every 3 weeks for four cycles. The primary endpoint was disease-free survival in the intention-to-treat population, which comprised all randomised patients; the safety population included all randomised patients who received at least one dose of study medication. Enrolment to the study is closed but survival follow-up is ongoing. The study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01405079. Between Sept 19, 2011, and April 24, 2014, 483 patients were screened and 222 patients were randomised, 111 to gefitinib and 111 to vinorelbine plus cisplatin. Median follow-up was 36·5 months (IQR 23·8–44·8). Median disease-free survival was significantly longer with gefitinib (28·7 months [95% CI 24·9–32·5]) than with vinorelbine plus cisplatin (18·0 months [13·6–22·3]; hazard ratio [HR] 0·60, 95% CI 0·42–0·87; p=0·0054). In the safety population, the most commonly reported grade 3 or worse adverse events in the gefitinib group (n=106) were raised alanine aminotransferase and asparate aminotransferase (two [2%] patients with each event vs none with vinorelbine plus cisplatin). In the vinorelbine plus cisplatin group (n=87), the most frequently reported grade 3 or worse adverse events were neutropenia (30 [34%] patients vs none with gefitinib), leucopenia (14 [16%] vs none), and vomiting (eight [9%] vs none). Serious adverse events were reported for seven (7%) patients who received gefitinib and 20 (23%) patients who received vinorelbine plus cisplatin. No interstitial lung disease was noted with gefitinib. No deaths were treatment related. Adjuvant gefitinib led to significantly longer disease-free survival compared with that for vinorelbine plus cisplatin in patients with completely resected stage II–IIIA (N1–N2) EGFR-mutant NSCLC. Based on the superior disease-free survival, reduced toxicity, and improved quality of life, adjuvant gefitinib could be a potential treatment option compared with adjuvant chemotherapy in these patients. However, the duration of benefit with gefitinib after 24 months might be limited and overall survival data are not yet mature. The mediating role of resilience in the effects of physical exercise on college students’ negative emotions during the COVID-19 epidemic
Due to its suddenness and unpredictability, COVID-19 caused strife and effects on public mental health, resulting in a surge of negative emotions. The study explores the relationship between physical exercise and negative emotions in home-based college students during the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as the mediating role of resilience, thus providing a new basis for understanding the role of physical exercise in improving negative emotions in college students; A total of 1214 college students were investigated with the Physical Exercise Questionnaire, Negative Emotion Scale and Resilience Scale; Both physical exercise and resilience were significantly negatively correlated with negative emotions in college students (r = − 0.25, − 0.33, P < 0.001), and there was a significant positive correlation between physical exercise and resilience (r = 0.47, P < 0.001). Physical exercise had a direct effect on the negative emotions of college students (β = − 0.14, P < 0.001). Resilience had a partial mediating effect between physical exercise and the negative emotions of the college students, with a mediating effect value of 0.14 and a mediating effect contribution rate of 50.00%; The study found that physical exercise not only directly affected the negative emotions of college students but also improved their resilience by slowing down their negative emotions and promoting their mental health.
Power allocation between radar and jammer using conflict game theory
Conflict game theory is employed to analyze the countermeasure relationship between radar systems and jammers. To address this issue, a novel utility function and a Conflict Power Allocation Game (CPAG) algorithm are introduced for determining the Nash Equilibrium (NE) solution of the game. The utility function enables the calculation of optimal power response functions for both the radar system and the jammer, with the NE solution of the CPAG algorithm obtained through numerical computation. Simulation results demonstrate the convergence of the proposed CPAG algorithm to the NE solution, validating its efficacy. Finally, an analysis of the relationship between the utility function and pricing factors is conducted based on the proposed CPAG algorithm and simulation outcomes. This article introduces a novel utility function and a Conflict Power Allocation Game (CPAG) algorithm to analyze the countermeasure game dynamics between radar and jammer systems. By deriving optimal response functions using the utility function, the Nash Equilibrium (NE) solution of the game is calculated, demonstrating convergence of the CPAG algorithm. Simulation results validate the efficacy of the proposed approach, highlighting the relationship between the utility function and pricing factors.
