Electrodynamics in noninertial frames
The electromagnetic theory is considered in the framework of the generally covariant approach, that is applied to the analysis of electromagnetism in noninertial coordinate and frame systems. The special-relativistic formulation of Maxwell’s electrodynamics arises in the flat Minkowski spacetime when the general coordinate transformations are restricted to a class of transformations preserving the Minkowski line element. The particular attention is paid to the analysis of the electromagnetism in the noninertial rotating reference system. For the latter case, the general stationary solution of the Maxwell equations in the absence of the electric current is constructed in terms of the two scalar functions satisfying the Poisson and the biharmonic equations with an arbitrary charge density as a matter source. The classic problem of Schiff is critically revisited.

Exact Solutions in Poincaré Gauge Gravity Theory
2019
In the framework of the gauge theory based on the Poincaré symmetry group, the gravitational field is described in terms of the coframe and the local Lorentz connection. Considered as gauge field potentials, they give rise to the corresponding field strength which are naturally identified with the torsion and the curvature on the Riemann–Cartan spacetime. We study the class of quadratic Poincaré gauge gravity models with the most general Yang–Mills type Lagrangian which contains all possible parity-even and parity-odd invariants built from the torsion and the curvature. Exact vacuum solutions of the gravitational field equations are constructed as a certain deformation of de Sitter geometry. They are black holes with nontrivial torsion.

We continue to investigate the premetric teleparallel theory of gravity (TG) with the coframe (tetrad) as gravitational potential. We start from the field equations and a local and linear constitutive law. We create a Tonti diagram of TG in order to disclose the structure of TG. Subsequently we irreducibly decompose the 6th order constitutive tensor under the linear group. Moreover, we construct the most general constitutive tensors from the metric and the totally antisymmetric Levi-Civita symbol, and we demonstrate that they encompass nontrivial axion and skewon type pieces. Using these tools, we derive for TG in the geometric-optics approximation propagating massless spin 0, 1, and 2 waves, including the special case of Einstein’s general relativity.

Gauge Structure of Teleparallel Gravity
2019
During the conference Teleparallel Universes in Salamanca, we became aware of a recent paper [M. Fontanini, E. Huguet, and M. Le Delliou, Phys. Rev. D 2019, 99, 064006] in which some criticisms on the interpretation of teleparallel gravity as a gauge theory for the translation group were put forward. This triggered a discussion about the arguments on which those criticisms were based, whose output is described in the present paper. The main conclusion is that to a great extent, those arguments are incorrect, and lack mathematical and physical support.

Dynamics of a fermion with dipole moments in external wave fields
2022
We discuss the motion of a massive fermion spin 1/2 particle in external wave field configurations when the Pauli type non-minimal interaction of the gauge field strengths with particle’s dipole moments is taken into account. The exact solution of the relativistic Dirac-Pauli equation is presented for the case of the plane electromagnetic wave.

We undertake the construction of quadratic parity-violating terms involving the curvature in the four-dimensional metric-affine gravity. We demonstrate that there are only 12 linearly independent scalars, plus an additional one that can be removed by using the Pontryagin invariant. Several convenient bases for this sector are provided in both components and differential form notation. We also particularize our general findings to some constrained geometries like Weyl–Cartan and metric-compatible connections.

Spin-Gravity Coupling in a Rotating Universe
2023
The coupling of intrinsic spin with the nonlinear gravitomagnetic fields of Gödel-type spacetimes is studied. We work with Gödel-type universes in order to show that the main features of spin-gravity coupling are independent of causality problems of the Gödel universe. The connection between the spin–gravitomagnetic field coupling and Mathisson’s spin-curvature force is demonstrated in the Gödel-type universe. That is, the gravitomagnetic Stern–Gerlach force due to the coupling of spin with the gravitomagnetic field reduces in the appropriate correspondence limit to the classical Mathisson spin-curvature force.

Dynamics of classical and quantum spin in external fields: A general formalism
2020
We study the dynamics of classical and quantum particles with spin and dipole moments in external fields within the framework of the general approach by making use of the projection technique. Applications include the neutrino physics in matter, polarization phenomena in astrophysics, high-energy and heavy-ion physics.

We investigate the axial vector spin–torsion coupling effects in the framework of the Poincaré gauge theory of gravity with the general Yang–Mills type Lagrangian. The dynamical equations for the “electric” and “magnetic” components of the torsion field variable are obtained in the general form and it is shown that the helicity density and the spin density of the electromagnetic field appear as the physical sources. The modified Maxwell’s equations for the electromagnetic field are derived, and the electromagnetic wave propagation under the action of the uniform homogeneous torsion field is considered. We demonstrate the Faraday effect of rotation of the polarization for such a wave and establish the strong bound on the possible cosmic axial torsion field from the astrophysical data.

Ebola virus (EBOV) causes severe human disease with a high case fatality rate. The balance of evidence implies that the virus circulates in bats. The molecular basis for host–viral interactions, including the role for phosphorylation during infections, is largely undescribed. To address this, and to better understand the biology of EBOV, the phosphorylation of EBOV proteins was analyzed in virions purified from infected monkey Vero-E6 cells and bat EpoNi/22.1 cells using high-resolution mass spectrometry. All EBOV structural proteins were detected with high coverage, along with phosphopeptides. Phosphorylation sites were identified in all viral structural proteins. Comparison of EBOV protein phosphorylation in monkey and bat cells showed only partial overlap of phosphorylation sites, with shared sites found in NP, VP35, and VP24 proteins, and no common sites in the other proteins. Three-dimensional structural models were built for NP, VP35, VP40, GP, VP30 and VP24 proteins using available crystal structures or by de novo structure prediction to elucidate the potential role of the phosphorylation sites. Phosphorylation of one of the identified sites in VP35, Thr-210, was demonstrated to govern the transcriptional activity of the EBOV polymerase complex. Thr-210 phosphorylation was also shown to be important for VP35 interaction with NP. This is the first study to compare phosphorylation of all EBOV virion proteins produced in primate versus bat cells, and to demonstrate the role of VP35 phosphorylation in the viral life cycle. The results uncover a novel mechanism of EBOV transcription and identify novel targets for antiviral drug development.
