Search for lepton-flavor-violating tau-lepton decays to ℓγ at Belle
A bstract Charged lepton flavor violation is forbidden in the Standard Model but possible in several new physics scenarios. In many of these models, the radiative decays τ ± → ℓ ± γ ( ℓ = e, μ ) are predicted to have a sizeable probability, making them particularly interesting channels to search at various experiments. An updated search via τ ± → ℓ ± γ using full data of the Belle experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 988 fb − 1 , is reported for charged lepton flavor violation. No significant excess over background predictions from the Standard Model is observed, and the upper limits on the branching fractions, B ( τ ± → μ ± γ ) ≤ 4 . 2 × 10 − 8 and B ( τ ± → e ± γ ) ≤ 5 . 6 × 10 − 8 , are set at 90% confidence level.
Observation of a new structure near 10.75 GeV in the energy dependence of the e+e−→ ϒ (nS)π+π− (n = 1, 2, 3) cross sections
A bstract We report a new measurement of the e + e − → ϒ( nS ) π + π − ( n = 1 , 2 , 3) cross sections at energies from 10 . 52 to 11 . 02 GeV using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We observe a new structure in the energy dependence of the cross sections; if described by a Breit-Wigner function its mass and width are found to be M = 10752.7 ± 5.9 − 1.1 + 0.7 MeV / c 2 and Γ = 35.5 − 11.3 − 3.3 + 17.6 + 3.9 MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The global significance of the new structure including systematic uncertainty is 5.2 standard deviations. We also find evidence for the e + e − → ϒ (1 S ) π + π − process at the energy 10 . 52 GeV, which is below the B B ¯ threshold.
An improved search for the electric dipole moment of the τ lepton
A bstract We report a measurement of the electric dipole moment of the τ lepton ( dτ ) using an 833 fb − 1 data sample collected near the Υ(4 S ) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. Using an optimal observable method, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of d τ as Re( d τ ) = ( − 0 . 62 ± 0 . 63) × 10 − 17 e cm and Im( d τ ) = ( − 0 . 40 ± 0 . 32) × 10 − 17 e cm, respectively. These results are consistent with null electric dipole moment at the present level of experimental sensitivity and improve the sensitivity by about a factor of three.
Search for lepton-flavor-violating τ decays into a lepton and a vector meson using the full Belle data sample
A bstract Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of τ lepton decays into a light charged lepton ( ℓ = e ± or μ ± ) and a vector meson ( V 0 = ρ 0 , ϕ , ω , K *0 , or K ¯ *0 ) using 980 fb − 1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events is observed, and thus 90% credibility level upper limits are set on the τ → ℓV 0 branching fractions in the range of (1.7–4 . 3) × 10 − 8 . These limits are improved by 30% on average from the previous results.
Search for a pentaquark state decaying into pJ/ψ in Υ(1, 2S) inclusive decays at Belle
A bstract Using the data samples of 102 million Υ(1 S ) and 158 million Υ(2 S ) events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the pJ/ψ final state from Υ(1 , 2 S ) inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate is included. We observe clear pJ/ψ production in Υ(1 , 2 S ) decays and measure the branching fractions to be and . We also measure the cross section of inclusive pJ/ψ production in e + e − annihilation to be σ ( e + e − → pJ/ψ + anything ) = [108 ± 11( stat. ) ± 6( syst. )] fb at GeV using an 89 . 5 fb − 1 continuum data sample. There is no significant P c (4312) + , P c (4440) + or P c (4457) + signal found in the pJ/ψ final states in Υ(1 , 2 S ) inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of to be at the 10 − 6 level.
Search for Bs0→ ℓ∓τ± with the semi-leptonic tagging method at Belle
A bstract We present a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays B s 0 → ℓ ∓ τ ± , where ℓ = e, μ , using the full data sample of 121 fb − 1 collected at the Υ(5 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We use B s 0 B ¯ s 0 events in which one B s 0 meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the other in the signal mode. We find no evidence for B s 0 → ℓ ∓ τ ± decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level as B ( B s 0 → e ∓ τ ± ) < 14 × 10 − 4 and B ( B s 0 → μ ∓ τ ± ) < 7 . 3 × 10 − 4 . Our result represents the first upper limit on the B s 0 → e ∓ τ ± decay rate.
Search for the double-charmonium state with ηcJ/ψ at Belle
A bstract We measure the cross section of e + e − → η c J/ψ at the Υ( nS )( n = 1–5) on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of 955 fb − 1 . We also search for double charmonium production in e + e − → η c J/ψ via initial state radiation near the η c J/ψ threshold. No evident signal of the double charmonium state is found, but evidence for the e + e − → η c J/ψ process is found with a statistical significance greater than 3 . 3 σ near the η c J/ψ threshold. The average cross section near the threshold is measured and upper limits of cross sections are set for other regions.
First measurement of the Λc+→ pη′ decay
A bstract We present the first measurement of the branching fraction of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decay Λ c + → pη ′ with η ′ → ηπ + π − , using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 981 fb − 1 , collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric-energy collider. A significant Λ c + → pη ′ signal is observed for the first time with a signal significance of 5.4 σ . The relative branching fraction with respect to the normalization mode Λ c + → pK − π + is measured to be B Λ c + → pη ′ B Λ c + → pK − π + = 7.54 ± 1.32 ± 0.73 × 10 − 3 , where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the world-average value of B Λ c + → pK − π + = (6 . 28 ± 0 . 32) × 10 − 2 , we obtain B Λ c + → pη ′ = 4.73 ± 0.82 ± 0.46 ± 0.24 × 10 − 4 , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from B Λ c + → pK − π + , respectively.
Search for charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) → ℓ∓τ± (ℓ = e, μ) decays at Belle
A bstract We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2 S ) → ℓ ∓ τ ± ( ℓ = e, μ ) decays using a 25 fb − 1 Υ(2 S ) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ( B ) at 90% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits: B (Υ(2 S ) → μ ∓ τ ± ) < 0 . 23 × 10 − 6 and B (Υ(2 S ) → e ∓ τ ± ) < 1 . 12 × 10 − 6 .
Combined analysis of Belle and Belle II data to determine the CKM angle ϕ3 using B+ → D(KS0h+h−)h+ decays
A bstract We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3 (also known as γ ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of B + → D ( K S 0 h + h − ) h + , where D is either a D 0 or D ¯ 0 meson and h is either a π or K . This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 711 fb − 1 and 128 fb − 1 , respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e + e − collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4 S ) resonance. We measure ϕ 3 = (78 . 4 ± 11 . 4 ± 0 . 5 ± 1 . 0)°, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the D -decay strong-phase parameters.
