Huanglongbing vector insect counting (HLB) by GAMLSS
Citriculture is one of the most important agricultural activities globally, with Brazil being one of the leading world producers. Thus, such activity is essential for the country's economy and the producers who depend on it. In this sense, the fight against Huanglongbing, one of the most devastating citrus diseases caused by vector insects, is essential to guarantee the quality of the fruit and avoid economic losses. The present work analyzed the counting of insect vectors in a commercial orange orchard in an observational study carried out in the municipality of Paranavaí, state of Paraná, Brazil, using the methodologies of generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) and generalized additive models for location, scale, and form (GAMLSS), with Negative Binomial probability distribution. Data were obtained by counting insects trapped in sticky traps at twelve fixed points in the orchard at three different heights and collected over seven fortnights. The results indicated that the GAMLSS model presented better results by including the linear predictor for modeling the scale parameter associated with the study factors based on the AIC criterion and diagnostic analysis tools.
Art as a Therapeutic Tool in Depressive Disorders: a Systematic Review of the Literature
Different alternative forms of therapy have been studied in relation to their applicability and effectiveness. The use of art therapy in the treatment of depressive disorder is an example frequently employed in several countries. The aim of this research was to identify and discuss which artistic techniques have been applied most frequently in the treatment of depressive disorders and what their main effects are. The research was conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed, American Psychological Association (APA) and Web of Science databases. The articles were selected through the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA protocol). 14 articles were selected, among which the main techniques of art therapy used were: manual work (drawing, painting, and modeling), music, poetry, photography, theater and contemplation of art pieces. It was found that most of the researches are European and as a field of knowledge they depart mainly from medicine. Of the 14 researches of this review, only two failed in the use of art therapy techniques as a therapeutic tool. It can be understood that art therapy is a safe and reliable tool for treatment not only of depression but also of other mental disorders.
Evaluation of freshness and physicochemical characteristics of blankets of pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) bred in captivity at different ages in relation to the seasons
This study aimed to evaluate the freshness and physicochemical characterization of pirarucu blankets at different ages bred in captivity in excavated tanks in northern Mato Grosso State, Brazil, in different seasons (rain and dry seasons). Four harvests were performed in two different tanks and five specimens obtained in each evaluated period, with animals aged 18 and 24 months, respectively, at the beginning of the experiment. The animals were slaughtered in a local establishment that had an inspection service following humane standards, and the blankets were later sent to analysis. The samples were analyzed for freshness via total volatile nitrogenous bases and physicochemical characteristics (pH in 24 h, water activity, water retention capacity, dripping loss, cooking loss, and shear force). There was a statistical difference for total nitrogenous volatile bases and shear force with higher values in the rainy season (24 month-of-old animals). Additionally, pH and water activity differed statistically at 24 h in the same period, albeit for 18-month-of-old animals. It was possible to conclude that climate variation affected the freshness and physicochemical characteristics of the pirarucu blankets while age did not.
