تتناول رواية (لنخرج ونسرق الخيول) والذي قام بتأليفه (بير بيترسون) في حوالي (266) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (القصص النرويجية) حيث تدول أحداثها في سنة 1948، يقضي تروند ابن الخامسة عشرة الصيف مع أبيه في الريف. ومن هناك تتسلسل الأحداث غير المتوقعة التي غيرت مجرى حياته إلى الأبد. في سن متأخرة، بعد إنتقال تروند إلى العيش في منطقة نائية من النرويج، تشاء الصدف أن يلتقي أحد أشخاص ذلك الصيف المصيري. فتستثار في نفسه الذكريات المؤلمة وترغمه على إستعادة ماضيه. لنخرج ونسرق الخيول، حكاية محزنة ومؤثرة، تناقش منظور الإنسان المتغير للحياة، تغيره من براءة الصغر إلى التقبل الممض للخيانة، ومن مشاعر الحنين إلى الماضي إلى طريقة حياة أسهل.
