. These comparisons reveal sensitivity of the 1-jettiness observable to QCD parton shower and resummation effects, as well as the modeling of hadronization and fragmentation. Within their range of validity, the fixed-order predictions provide a good description of the data. Monte Carlo event generators are predictive over the full measured range and hence their underlying models and parameters can be constrained by comparing to the presented data.

Measurement of groomed event shape observables in deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering at HERA

The H1 Collaboration at HERA reports the first measurement of groomed event shape observables in deep inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS) at

GeV, using data recorded between the years 2003 and 2007 with an integrated luminosity of 351

. Event shapes provide incisive probes of perturbative and non-perturbative QCD. Grooming techniques have been used for jet measurements in hadronic collisions; this paper presents the first application of grooming to DIS data. The analysis is carried out in the Breit frame, utilizing the novel Centauro jet clustering algorithm that is designed for DIS event topologies. Events are required to have squared momentum-transfer

. We report measurements of the production cross section of groomed event 1-jettiness and groomed invariant mass for several choices of grooming parameter. Monte Carlo model calculations and analytic calculations based on Soft Collinear Effective Theory are compared to the measurements.

Observation and differential cross section measurement of neutral current DIS events with an empty hemisphere in the Breit frame
2024
The Breit frame provides a natural frame to analyze lepton–proton scattering events. In this reference frame, the parton model hard interactions between a quark and an exchanged boson defines the coordinate system such that the struck quark is back-scattered along the virtual photon momentum direction. In Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), higher order perturbative or non-perturbative effects can change this picture drastically. As Bjorken-
x
decreases below one half, a rather peculiar event signature is predicted with increasing probability, where no radiation is present in one of the two Breit-frame hemispheres and all emissions are to be found in the other hemisphere. At higher orders in
α
s
or in the presence of soft QCD effects, predictions of the rate of these events are far from trivial, and that motivates measurements with real data. We report on the first observation of the empty current hemisphere events in electron–proton collisions at the HERA collider using data recorded with the H1 detector at a center-of-mass energy of 319 GeV. The fraction of inclusive neutral-current DIS events with an empty hemisphere is found to be

Diffractive electroproduction of ρ and ϕ mesons is measured at HERA with the H1 detector in the elastic and proton dissociative channels. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 51 pb

. About 10500 ρ and 2000 φ events are analysed in the kinematic range of squared photon virtuality 2.5 ≤
Q

≤ 60 GeV

, photon-proton centre of mass energy 35 ≤

≤ 180 GeV and squared four-momentum transfer to the proton |

| ≤ 3 GeV

. The total, longitudinal and transverse cross sections are measured as a function of
Q
2
,
W

t
|. The measurements show a transition to a dominantly “hard” behaviour, typical of high gluon densities and small
dipoles, for
Q
2
larger than 10 to 20 GeV
2
. They support flavour independence of the diffractive exchange, expressed in terms of the scaling variable (
Q
2
+
M
2
V
)/4, and proton vertex factorisation. The spin density matrix elements are measured as a function of kinematic variables. The ratio of the longitudinal to transverse cross sections, the ratio of the helicity amplitudes and their relative phases are extracted. Several of these measurements have not been performed before and bring new information on the dynamics of diffraction in a QCD framework. The measurements are discussed in the context of models using generalised parton distributions or universal dipole cross sections.

Inclusive charm and beauty cross sections are measured in

neutral current collisions at HERA in the kinematic region of photon virtuality 5≤

≤0.05. The data were collected with the H1 detector in the years 2006 and 2007 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 189 pb

. The numbers of charm and beauty events are determined using variables reconstructed by the H1 vertex detector including the impact parameter of tracks to the primary vertex and the position of the secondary vertex. The measurements are combined with previous data and compared to QCD predictions.

Measurement of jet production cross sections in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA
2017
A precision measurement of jet cross sections in neutral current deep-inelastic scattering for photon virtualities [Formula omitted] and inelasticities [Formula omitted] is presented, using data taken with the H1 detector at HERA, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of [Formula omitted]. Double-differential inclusive jet, dijet and trijet cross sections are measured simultaneously and are presented as a function of jet transverse momentum observables and as a function of [Formula omitted]. Jet cross sections normalised to the inclusive neutral current DIS cross section in the respective [Formula omitted]-interval are also determined. Previous results of inclusive jet cross sections in the range [Formula omitted] are extended to low transverse jet momenta [Formula omitted]. The data are compared to predictions from perturbative QCD in next-to-leading order in the strong coupling, in approximate next-to-next-to-leading order and in full next-to-next-to-leading order. Using also the recently published H1 jet data at high values of [Formula omitted], the strong coupling constant [Formula omitted] is determined in next-to-leading order.
