The great debt let-off
2006
The purpose of the changes to the personal insolvency legislation was to encourage risk taking and stimulate enterprise. However, personal debt has spiralled and is now estimated to be in excess of L1.4 trillion. According to a survey, the insolvency profession felt that the reduction in the period of bankruptcy from 3 years to one year had hampered investigations into debtor misconduct (69%) and failed to promote enterprise (97%). The profession also felt that bankruptcy was now less effective at deterring unsustainable borrowing.

Golf: The Open: Gary Player's guide to Muirfield
by
Player, Gary
2013
The opening shot of the round is no piece of cake. Muirfield sets up some of its great challenges in the front nine. This par-four 1st hole is a great example of that. It is a rather straightforward dog-leg right hole. There is difficulty with the narrow fairway that intimidates and then reaches the left side bunkers. There is the C-shaped bunker you have to avoid and then the two bunkers at around 220 and 300 yards down the left side. Once you clear the bunkers, the green is not too difficult.

Tees, greens and airplanes: Golf champion reflects on lifetime of travel
by
Player, Gary
2012
I do like talking to seatmates. Because of the way I had to travel early in my career, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for women traveling with their children. I don't care if a child is crying on a plane. I just feel sorry for the parents, and mostly for the child. So I will try to do what I can. I like showing young children magic tricks. Just a sleight of hand will usually bring a smile, even if they're shy. Just recently, I've been to Shanghai, Thailand, London, Palm Beach, Brazil, Morocco and Mexico, to name a few. I'm 77 years old, and one thing I've learned about traveling is how to eat. I consume very little if I have a heavy flight schedule. I might have a bit of fruit, and a salad with no dressing. I swear by garlic and manuka honey to keep me healthy the day I fly. A lot of water is also a must. I'll even work out with walking, weight training and too many sit-ups to count. That regimen has served me well over the years.
